Her name is Bitsy! She is less than half the size of my beloved bulldog who died in late January.
Bitsy has a mysterious past. She was pushed out of a car in a busy intersection. A good Samaritan saw an out-of-state car door fly open ahead and the dog fall out. The Good Samaritan circled the intersection to got back to pick Bitsy out of traffic. She took Bitsy to county animal control
County animal control held Bitsy for 10 days as required for the owner to show up. No one came for Bitsy. Animal control turned her over to St. Louis Bulldog Rescue. She has been in rescue since mid March.
Because she was well cared for and well socialized, it is clear she has been someone’s beloved pet. Our rescue head worked her contacts in other states to see if owner could be found. Nope.
People—put a microchip on your dog!
We think Bitsy was kidnapped for spite. She is a well bred, champion -level dog. Someone paid some $$ for her. Now I will make another $$ donation to Bulldog rescue. this is one of the few money making dogs we get in. Even then, she had an emergency spay surgery due to Pyrometrea, a cherry eye fix, and xrays for cat litter in her GI tract. Her vet care was not without incident.
Throughout all of this she has been a happy, confident puppy. We place her at 9 months in age. She doesn’t know someone hated her enough to wish her death by car. Bitsy thinks everyone is her friend and all the humans love her. Typical brainless bulldog! They are ridiculous which is why I love them.3269
The green tennis shoe is in the first photo to show her size. She is 31 pounds.

Cute!! I bet she was doggie napped. People can really be horrible.
Adorable pup! Lucky pup to get you guys for a second chance!
Hoping for swift and unforgiving karma for her abuser, but happy she's got a bright future--with you, or someone else!
Regardless of her recent past, Bitsy looks like a happy dog now!

Oh IL, what a doll she is! She's a lucky pup. I really hate people sometimes.

So sweet!
What a cutie! You adopted her? I can see why you're smitten with the breed. She's a big squishy adorable poppet. And if they're goofy and silly, all the better!
I'm betting on a foster fail...

Bitsy isnt our foster dog, she is our permanent dog.
We will still foster other dogs though.

Little Bits, aka Bitsy, is back to “foster dog” status here. She goes to her new permanent home July 8th.
Our house is not the right fit for her. She vacuums up, with her mouth, everything in our yard. She has been mildly sick to sick over the past week. Given her already inflamed GI tract, this is not good for her. She is going to go live in a condo with Deb, a long time volunteer in bulldog rescue who lost her two old bulldogs this year due to old age.
This morning Bitsy’s poop was perfect. I sent a photo of it to our Head of rescue! We are celebrating her getting through the last 4 days of digestive upset. We have been taking her out in our fenced yard on a leash multiple times a day, and removing all objects from her mouth.
We are already attached, after not really being sure the first few days. That’s fine, we will get over it. On the plus side Bitsy is now being treated around here like a grandchild instead of a child. Discipline has gone out the window. She can get up on any piece of furniture she wishes to jump on. She will probably sleep with me when we go to Hermann.
Love her! And also bless the person who stopped to rescue her from traffic!
So sorry to see she can't fit well at your place, Iris. Sounds like she'll be in good hands and you can go visit!
Grandchild status is the perfect description. Ha!

Our current foster dog is named “Whisky.”
I am already attached to him in a way I was not attached to Bitsy, the puppy. Much of that is because he slipped into our household very easily and is super easy.He also is a big sweet boy, and as I look back on my history of foster dogs, I do fall for the sweet boys. On the other hand, I like big outsize personalities and a girl dog we had for a year was that and I still miss her to this day.
Each of these dogs is so different.
Whiskey is pretty and I am a superficial person In that I want my bulldogs to look like bulldogs, but that doesn’t always mean a show quality dog. Whiskey is a pet quality dog, but he has some nice characteristics of a bulldog. Plus he acts like a bulldog although he does not have a big outsized personality.
Anyway, his presence is emotionally soothing to me because he fills a void Teddy Bear Left when he left died in January.
So happy for you and Whisky! It's so true, how dog personalities really shape the relationships with the owners. My Nessie was so headstrong and stubborn and smart, which is exactly what I loved about her. At the same time I loved the gentleness of my lab.
My kids were the ones that gave Nessie to us as a Christmas gift a year after Laddie died, but they were the ones who didn't like her BECAUSE of her personality. Plus, she wasn't all that pretty. She was scruffy even after coming directly from the groomer. She always reminded me of when Bart Simpson got dressed up for church--he still was Bart Simpson, and Nessie was still my little ragamuffin. Definitely not show quality. If she had been a person she'd be someone like Rosanne Barr.
So glad you are finding some solace in Whiskey (the dog). Post pics.
I'm a sucker for a love story...:~)

Sounds like a great dog!
I wonder why and how we choose our favourite among pets ? Personality, appearance, vitality, or what?
My absolute favourite was a black lab/airedale that was the size of a Sheltand pony and exuberant with life. He would circle within my vision during walks in our woodlot and come back and touch my knee with his nose before heading out on his next circle. I had him for 13 amazing years.

Whiskey is in our house because 1) we are a convenient, and empty foster, home and 2) It is unclear how well he gets along with other dogs. He lost his previous home because he was beating up on their French bulldog. However he did like their female pugs, so it’s hard to know how he’s gonna react to another dog. Here he is:

He's a muscular cutie! Just like Channing Tatum.
