We finished constructing these storage chests in our carpentry class that ended on 3/10/20. I missed the window of opportunity to go fabric shopping for the top, so had to wait for stores to reopen due to Covid shutdowns. Then I had to paint the chest, and I procrastinated on that since I don't much like to paint. I finally got it together and completed it yesterday, and I'm very pleased with the outcome! This is actually the one DH built, but I painted it and did the cushion. I gave my identical chest to my sister, since we didn't have need or space for two. Here are some pictures, with and without cats. The boys love it too and will probably use it the most, although not the storage functionality because they are minimalists! 3402340334043405

Love the kitties - and their new resting spot, very impressive! Our cats also immediately claim all new spots to perch on or snuggle in. So, new furniture, new cushion, right in front of a window - you've a good kitty human! :D

How nice of you to build your kitties a napping seat! Hopefully they tolerate the occasional interruption to retrieve stored items. ;)

There sure is a lot of work put into projects such as these. And a lot of time. Very nice. Hopefully you were able to enjoy the process. From reading your posts it seems you did. :)

I loved the carpentry class part of the process and can't wait for classes to resume! I'm not so crazy over the painting part. The cushion was kind of fun because I had never done something like that before; it was interesting to figure it out.

Just finished a long crafting weekend with family - few irl and the rest over skype. It was wonderful and I finally got back to working on the stash of baby yarns that I have. It felt really good and productive. When I finish the set, I'll post a picture - if anyone wants to see. It was just a simple, fun, weekend. Really needed the get-away.

Hey, I just realized that I finished a gardening project that I can share. It is 35' long triangle between my property and next door, on a grade, a critical draining area for 3 properties and in a shade/sun mix. I puzzled and puzzled about what to do. Decided to use flagstones (heavy little beggars) to stabilize the soil covered with landscape fabric and placed shade/moisture tolerant plants including echinacea, astilbe, hostas, lilies, summer hibiscus, ferns with brown mulch between it all.

ETA: not sure why the photo is sideways.

I prepped and painted our metal outdoor furniture set. We've had it for a long time and it was quite rusted. I love the set, so hopefully this will preserve it.

Nice, Rosa! DD1 gave me the idea of a spice drawer. Any spot where that might be possible?

The infant ensemble is perfect--even off the little nipper.

The spice cabinet is rustic and elegant at the same time!

Very nice! How are the muntins created? Are they part of the glass or did you build them?

Steve,
There actually isn't any glass. I basically followed the instructions I found online, with a bit of tweaking:

so I looked at some of these spice drawers, adding them to wish list, and then I had the notion what if I just have spices lying down in a drawer, with their front labels facing up. I have a drawer that never seems ideal storage for anything as it is has little height and is a bit out of the way. I keep trying to use it for something as storage is at a premium here and so it's a shame to waste it but it never works well for anything. But I laid the spices in the drawer and wow perfect. It doesn't matter it's a bit out of the way because I'm not in constant need of spices (when cooking I can take out a few put them back when done). Maybe that's what that drawer was for all along! Wow it's like when I had an apartment that I finally figured out had a slot for milk delivery, haha but there is no milk delivery anymore of course, but there are spices.

Not a latest project completed but a frugal. Nothing was bought, I don't need that wish list stuff at all it turns out and have more spice storage just laying the spices in the drawer.
