View Full Version : I applied for a transfer
It will be a longer commute if I get it, but an opportunity to double my skills set. The manager at the other site is very good. It is in a lower risk part of the state so even if they are bad at covid protocols like my current location is I will be safer.
I don't know if my current manager will sign off on my request. He has blocked several people from leaving our branch, but has allowed others to go. I would be the only person in the office, not under the thumb of the office manager like I am now. She has been here 24 years and there is only one way to do things, her way, the way it has been for 24 years. She hates change and continuous improvement is an unknown concept to her. So I hope I get it but I am trying to not get my hopes up too high.
A recruiter has also contacted me about a local position but I have not heard back on it.
I am getting restless with nothing new to learn. It's hard to work somewhere when you are expected to check your brain at the door and be a cog. There are many good people where I work now I will miss. They just aren't on the management team.
I really hope the transfer is approved. Good luck and keep us updated!
I also hope you get it! Sounds like the right opportunity for you at this time.

I hope it works out for you, Jeppy!
My interview for the transfer is Thursday. The other external job was filled by an internal candidate whose position is now open. The recruiter asked me am I still interested and I said yes.

These possibilities sound good.
The interview was weird. I met with 4 people. One of them never made eye contact with me the entire time. He was looking at his laptop and smart phone. Two didn't have questions for me beyond the commute. The fourth was normal but would not be at the site where I would work.
No word from the recruiter. I am working on updating my references and am going to start looking outside the company on my own.

That’s weird.
I’d suggest trying Indeed. I had a number of interviews from both posting my resume and searching there.
I had an interview once with 3 people, one of whom said nothing and was disengaged. By the time I started the job a month later she no longer worked for the company.
My transfer was approved today. I start at the new site 9/26. They gave me a raise although I will have the same job title. It will cover my increased commuting costs, and I will still be eligible for a review/raise in the spring at annual review time. It is nice that they see the value in me.
Oh, wow! Great! Seems it was hard to read the interview, but obviously you aced it! Congrats!

Wow. That is FAB to hear! Congrats! Hope things will be a bit less stressful.

I told you everyone I know who's looked for a job has found one--congratulations!
Hooray, that is such great news!
Thank you folks. I am happy, and I didn't need to dye my gray hair either.

So your transfer was approved on 10-6-2020, and your start date means you are already late?

Congrats, jeppy - I hope you find it a much better place to work!
Several weeks into the new job and I like everything except the commute. It is low key, drama free, and I am learning new things. When it's slow I clean. The boss is working on coming up with new things for me to do.

My boss is a new manager and wasn't trusted to do reviews on his own, so has been waiting for another manager to come in for them. This never happened by the deadline. But my raise was in my paycheck and is larger than last year's. Despite the commute and car issues the transfer has definitely worked out for the better for me.
Good to hear that it has worked out for you.
