I've hesitated posting this but it *seems* to actually be happening this time (fingers-crossed). It appears they finally hired a new custodian and she will be taking my current place so that I can move to the other school starting tomorrow!
Nice, Happy, that sounds really good!
Tomorrow? Looks like they won't be backing out this time!

Small drama warning... LOL.
I DID start at the elementary school yesterday. As I was getting out of my car, the supervisor was getting in his, but stopped and walked into the building with me. During that walk, he informed me that the new hire (person taking my place at the middle school), had texted (or emailed?) him that morning and QUIT! Didn't even show up for a 1st day!!!! I think he knew better than to pull me from the ES a third time, so it is now the middle school that will be short-handed.
ES is a totally different cleaning experience - lol. They do several things way different and I feel like I'm learning some things from scratch. Also have some middle school habits to break - lol. All-in-all, I'm hoping this is the change that will make this job bearable for another 2-3 years.
Anyway, thank you all for the encouragement and support! I really do appreciate it!

I’m sure you’re aware that employers are begging for employees. They are crawling on the ground for them.
I don’t know why you have to put up with a job that’s only bearable for three years.

I have come to the conclusion it is because ageism is alive and well in the American workforce. When I was actively looking, I applied for jobs that the only requirement was a high school diploma and no experience necessary (basic receptionist jobs). Tracking those job postings, I would see them listed long after I was turned down. While birth dates are no longer required for most application or need to be included on resumes, it's pretty easy to figure out how old someone is from the dates on military service, educational information, and even previous job info.
Happy stuff, I hope you enjoy the elementary experience. Do you have to mow? clear snow? The bathrooms probably aren't as bad....Good luck. The kids are more fun.

Thanks, nswef. In the middle school, yes, I had to mow and clear snow. I've been told no mowing at the es, but we'll see. And probably yes to clearing snow. As for the bathrooms, not as much graffiti, but still little kids and bathrooms. ROFLOL.

I think you are right about this. I have a friend whose job was eliminated (an entire division was shut down, so nothing to do with her personally), and she searched diligently for a job for over 2 years before she finally found one. She was in her early sixties, and she had impeccable references, experience, strong skillset, etc. She was very methodical, conscientious and strategic about her job search too.

Which is so odd, because older works like us tend to stay longer and put up with way more sh$t than younger workers.

I've definitely seen this!
Oh yes, Happy stuff, my husband taught elem. Phys. Ed. and there was a bathroom in the gym. The first graders needed to be taught how to use the urinal....One was busy singing away in a very loud voice, Bill opened the door and said, "Hey, quiet down." The little one turned, penis in hand and oh, my, pee all over the floor! Bill didn't mean to scare him, but he did.

LOL - funny, nswef. That's one of the reasons I wanted the elementary school. The kids are little and accidents are accidents. At the middle school, it was deliberate - target practice at everything except the toilets/uriinals.
Middle schoolers are such a mess.

Halfway through my 2nd week at the elementary school and starting to get in the swing of it. Yes, it's still just cleaning, but there are differences. This is the last week of school and they are all half days, so my hours have changed to being a little earlier. Next week we all start our "summer hours" which will be 4 - 10 hours days starting at 6 am. Trying to start adjusting to an earlier morning now. LOL. Anyway, so far so good on the school change!

Just finished my first week of summer hours (4 - 10 hour days). It was nice to roll over and go back to sleep for another hour or two this morning. LOL.

Thanks.
Only other coworker in my customs dept was off the Thursday/Friday before the 4th and then the entire following week. I spent the week after (last week) recovering from him being gone. Had a meltdown while he was off. It was just all too much. Talked to the one owner. He said they’re hiring 1-2 more import people and will look for people with customs experience to help us and be backup when one of us is on vacation.
I’m off 8/3-8/10 when I’m in MX for my full cave diving class. I have two weeks to get everything I’ve got done ahead for when I’m gone and clean up some lingering issues. Customs’ system is having major issues today. That prevents me from working on current stuff, but I’m able to get data entry done on stuff coming in next week or while I’m gone.

Ugggh. Hopefully they can get the new import people plus people with customs experience that are needed.
I can totally relate. At my no longer new (since I just passed my 3rd year anniversary) job, we're experiencing major growth. Both because we've proven ourselves good at writing profitable business and because the cyber insurance market is in chaos so 50-100% premium increases are the norm at the annual policy renewal. We wrote $50m premium last year. We managed to find funding for $80m premium this year, but during the first half of the year boss was working to find more capital funding and now we have a $108m premium goal for the year. We had booked $40m at the end of June. Now we are furiously hiring underwriters so that we can actually come close to writing that much business. But because of the chaos in the market there are a bunch of tech companies making plays in the cyber insurance market, paying tech startup salaries to insurance underwriters, so we've interviewed several qualified people who weren't interested in working for us because they already make more than my boss does...
Thanks, jp! Thankfully I’ve been able to get a lot of stuff done ahead the past couple of days. But I swear customers are competing for the “who is the stupidest?” award. People are doing all sorts of stuff that makes me go “why?” And they can’t explain themselves either. It’s stuff that makes no sense, needlessly complicates stuff, and wastes time.
Finally got import supervisor to sit down and talk about what her people would have to cover while I was gone. 7-10 files they have to track and let customer know when it arrives. Handle delivery on a few others.
Can’t believe it’s been exactly two years since I started the disastrous WFH job. In a much better place now.

The business owner really was doing it himself a disservice by the intricate XL routines he created. I can’t imagine And excel heavy job. Might as well sign me up to do brain surgery, I’d be just as good at it.

It worked for him as a single worker. Add more people and that was the issue. It was really antiquated.
