I have to laugh because I always give a bogus birthday to anyone who has no business knowing it. For some unknown reason, I make myself older... shudder.... don't know why? I have been getting birthday wishes all this month.

No, Facebook thinks I am about 100 years old. Or however old you can be to check the earliest year of birth they offered.

When I don't have to, I don't give out my birthday. However, I have no problem telling my age. :)

Hmm... I'm wondering who has to know your birthday and why you feel you need to give them a bogus one? Like when you're purchasing liquor and they have to check your ID by law?
I've never given anyone whose business it wasn't a phony birth date, but I don't remember many occasions when I had the opportunity to. Just for the record, 3/26/1952.

All of the websites that require registration to use, and that wont let you skip the birthdate question, that’s who.

Got it.
I get asked for my birthday at every medical appointment.

Yes, and at CVS when picking up a prescription. But I have no problem with that at all.

I always lie on random forms. Then I can't remember what date I made up. I think Facebook thinks my birthday's in April.

This website for one. I got a happy birthday greeting. My birthday is in October though... so not totally bogus.

I give out a fake birthday on social media. Its the right month and year, just not the date. Its close enough for government work. ;)

I always like getting a little b'day message from SLN. I can imagine Alan waking up on March 26 saying, "oh, I have to remember to send catherine a birthday greeting!" ;).

That’s exactly what he does! :~)

Yes, I get up extra early on Catherine's birthday so that it's the first thing she sees.
Seriously though, I get a kick out of the people who respond to those greetings. Sometimes they're nice, sometimes not so much.

I don't answer because I feel guilty for lying to you. Keep up the thankless work, bro!
They have a need to know your birthday.
It’s convenient for them. I wouldn’t call it a need.

I believe it is a need. I know my MIL had the same name as her SIL and that was how they kept track of them. You may have someone else who has the same or similar name. That is another way to verify. Also, may need for insurance or medicare? There are other reasons as well.

Wow.... surprising that people respond. I take it to be automated by the database.

Agreed. My son and husband have the same name, only differentiated by "Sr." and "Jr." which really isn't enough. I assume that is one reason we have to give them birthdates.
Wow.... surprising that people respond. I take it to be automated by the database. It is automated, no human interaction required. We only get a dozen or so responses each year, most thanking us for thinking of them, along with the occasional 'leave me alone dammit!'

Birthdate is one of the 3 required patient identifiers in many healthcare systems.
