Thank God! Can't wait for trump to be gone and the drama to stop! Just knowing trump is going to have a tantrum though.

He will end up with many more votes than what he needs. Probably 306:)). Trump is going to have a huge temper tantrum:))
Trump will be gone, but the drama won’t stop.

That's for sure. The only question is whether it will be rage tweets or another unhinged press conference.

Let JOY ring out across the 85006 and across the nation! Trump has been made little more than an unfortunately bizarre asterik in American History! I am sitting outside Safeway - off today and how appropriate (!!!) and was coming here as a cold front is moving through and it's finally cooling off a bit here - enough for cookouts with chimerias tonight and I was buying some precut firewood for such. And now we have a reason to celebrate!!! I am even posting here before calling SO - who also found work but PT only for the moment - stocking at an electronics retailer.
I wanted to post here first to share my double joy - not only in the Biden win but also in Arizona remaining blue even if called a bit early. Let JOY ring out through the 85006 and the nation. Rob

That's for sure. The only question is whether it will be rage tweets or another unhinged press conference.
And beyond that. Even after we stop hearing Trump’s name every day, there will be drama. The squad versus the establishment in the Democratic Party on any number of fronts. The politics of infection with a new slant. Rules fights in the Senate. Identity politics writ large. Fights over the direction of the economy among people who think the economy can be directed. The rage of disillusioned revolutionists. The Durham report. Stay tuned.
While I'm happy with the results, LDAHL is right, the drama isn't going away. 70 million people thought Trump was a good idea. They aren't suddenly going to get aboard the Biden train. Trump was not the cause but the effect. The causes are still there. Rampant racism, willing ignorance, in-your-face behaviors will all continue for quite some time.
I am happy that the perversion of our government for someone's personal financial and political whims will be curtailed. I'll be happy to see science to get back into the drivers seat on coronavirus. I'd like the attorney general to get back to being the top lawyer for the country and not one who functions as the president's personal lawyer. I don't expect Biden to be perfect, and he will be hindered by the Senate in any legislation. I'd just like for the money and influence grubbing to go back to being subtle and behind the scenes and not being shouted out loud in my face all the time. ;)

Dancing in the Streets! :cool:Yes indeed! And with good reason!!! It's true that I find myself living in a nation in which enough of the population voted for the Unfortunate Asterick In History Man that the election was a nail biter in the first place - the reality of America is that Donald Trump's behaviors are/were acceptable to some not small percentage of this society's population.
What does this say about the prospect of long-term cohesion/unity as an intact country going forward? What does this say regarding the long-term viability of this citizenship?
Though I definitely feel joy and share joy with many - I also realize this is nowhere near over yet and the issues of long term cohesion slash unity as a nation/viability of the citizenship indeed remain.
But let the parade commence! At least a start towards something slightly saner took place today! For that I am grateful. Rob

Indeed! A number of friends in San Francisco and NYC have posted the videos on Facebook. Lots of joy and happiness going on right now.
A friend reported she woke up with a cat on her face, the sounds of her neighbor drilling his driveway, horns honking, and people shouting in celebration.
Emmanuel Macron's message "Welcome back, America!" That's the way I feel. I'm trapped here, but hopeful that we'll be able to gain back some respect from the world at large.
Young people are filling the streets; I feel cautiously hopeful.

So happy that Biden was elected and I have today off to celebrate with others! It is indeed a day of joy - but what I posted before I hold to, also.
This all is far from over yet. Trump has caused so much rancor, bitterness, division - has (former) allies distrusting us and has the world laughing at us/pitying us. Also the in your face belligerence of the Trump era? I fear the GOP may hold onto this as a new norm to try their hand at yet more destruction and division.
This is not over yet. But today we start the long, ardous road to even beginning to heal as a nation. As Martha Stewart would say - it's a good thing. Rob

I am so happy to hear these words from the leader of a country with such a saner system - for all the bitching of the French about cuts to it here and there. These words mean so much to me. Meanwhile, Trump supporters are gathering in the mall at the Pennsylvania statehouse. To intimidate poll workers? Good grief. And as a Liberal playing with a debatably mostly full deck - why on Earth would they do such at this time? For what potential gain, for what potential purpose? I honestly don't understand Trump supporters and I say this with no snark nor rancor - I am just stating a fact. I just don't get this mentality. Though this mentality will no doubt linger for who knows how long - at least it's been voted out of the highest office of the land.
I take joy in that much - much like I take joy in Snowden acquiring Russian permanent residency. Rob

Though I find her politics utterly repulsive, she can spin BS quicker on her feet than any server I've ever seen when way way way behind on their tables. She's obviously got firing brain cells and she's articulate and it does take intelligence to spin BS quickly - I wonder where she will land on her feet now? Rob

She's got blonde hair. She'll be a Fox News presenter.
And--as if today couldn't get any better--New Zealand news is reporting that Vladimir Putin is potentially resigning due to health issues. Poetic justice, considering the neurological damage he's done to those he considers "enemies."

You mean that the rest of us can get a rest from all the melodrama?
What will the Fox pundits have to talk about?
To be honest, I have an older friend who thought Trump was really a good President being a businessman. Others thought that he brought a freshness to the political scene. Did I read somewhere that this election triggered the highest percentage of voters since 1900?
Since the GOP fell in line with Trump for their own reasons which will probably never be fully known, who will inspire their views now?
Could be! I've noticed MSNBC prefers brunettes.
I love the contributors on MSNBC, not least because they're such a spectacularly varied assembly. That's my America.

I think the people who believe that suffer from short memories.
One piece off the board doesn’t mean the game is over, although I think the focus will shift from Orange Man Bad to a contest between the people who want to remake the country and those who don’t trust them with that kind of power.

My "party animal" friend--she of the cat on her head--is itching to throw a party, too. She hasn't been able to host her usual ones. Maybe she can arrange a celebratory patio get-together with masks, social distancing and UV wands. But probably not.

I love Ali Velshi--he took a (rubber) bullet to continue reporting. :0! And there's Ayman Mohyeldin, too--whose name I always have to look up. Geeks are ably represented by Rachel Maddow and Steve Kornacki... I'm fond of most of them. They're a bright, talented lineup, whose diversity is a welcome change from yesteryear's "all white men in suits" reporters. I was just thinking the other night how nice it is to be able to watch three smart women: Rachel Maddow, Joy Reid, and Nicolle Wallace (who was a Republican appointee to the Bush White House) discuss election issues as if that were a normal occurrence. I'm so glad to be alive now to see it.

I skip their evening programming since it's even more opinion based than the daytime shows and there's never any doubt what their opinions are, plus there's less eye candy at night. >8) I do enjoy seeing Steve Kornacki's election coverage, he's such a good natured and awkward geek in his trademark rumpled khaki pants you can't help but like him.
I mostly watch at night, predictably. :)

What many people don’t seem to understand is that people have many reasons to vote for a candidate which is different than their own. People may overlook a candidate’s actions because they are in agreement over one thing. There’s no way I would lose a friend over politics. You can either not discuss or discuss rationally. I hate when I see on Facebook people saying they don’t want to be friends with anyone that votes for him. It’s shortsighted. I have 2 good friends that voted for him both times and my husband the first time. You can not understand something and accept it.

It's interesting. I never discuss politics or religion and I have friends on both sides, both moderate and extreme. Today the conservatives have been horrible, worse than their usual horrible. Note, I am talking about the ones I'm connected to, not in general. They swing between being horrible about Democrats or being very emotionally depressed and throwing out bible quotes and feeling our country is going down the toilet and they are worried for their personal safety. WTF???
I want to grab people by the shoulders and ask what it is in their everyday lives is going to change with this. No matter who won it wasn't going to make any difference in mine. It is the people in my community that make the difference, it is where I can make a difference in the place where I live. What has taken over people?

In that spirit, I see that AOC has called for an archive of all posts, tweets, etc. by “Trump sycophants”, to hold them “accountable”. Not sure what sort of people’s tribunal she has in mind, but it sounds interesting. Only by such Gestapo tactics can we protect ourselves from fascism.

This reminds me of a weird thing that happened to my brother on Facebook. I didn’t write about it here because I haven’t really researched it, I didn’t want it to get mixed up in with election hysteria because it’s not related to that. I may report on it later.

In 2012, a fair number of my "friends and neighbors" here shunned me for years after the local Republicans sent me to the convention as a delegate. Apparently this made me an evil right wing devil. I think at the time I was also helping run the local Community Land Trust, perhaps the most socialist organization here.

I went out cruising for a party (but only local so I might not find it - because it wasn't social media informed, but just driving around, looking for where the party might be) Found it and joined a group dancing and holding signs on a street corner (outside, masked, distanced). Danced like I don't know how to dance!!! And the cars driving by beeped and beeped in celebration. Nuance, is what I'll worry about tomorrow and the next 4 years. Today, all that matters is TRUMP IS GONE.
If you can't celebrate the toppling of a little Ceasar, a would be tyrant tweeting on a golden tiolet, an election he tried to derail (he never had establishment backing in that, but you never know), then you have given up all celebration
We were going to have a reasonably-distanced celebration on the village green today, but it turned into a Zoom party because of rapidly-increasing covid cases hereabouts.
I put a new tire on my lawn tractor today and afterwards sat on the deck and enjoyed a beer. Good Times!

My brother would scream over the phone. I actually hung up on him once and emailed what I wanted to say with documentation. We do talk now. I have neighbors and other friends who are trump supporters. We just avoid the subject and agree to disagree.

Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future? I foresee decent probability of many deleted Tweets, writings, photos in the future
She's not looking for a tribunal, she just doesn't want to see a modern-day equivalent of 18 minutes of erased tapes.

I’m glad, very glad, that you provided this exact quote. I looked up the exact quote yesterday too, and find it disturbing. But then, it is all in the interpretation of the TWeet limited to 140 characters so who knows what she intended.
So Catherine, who exactly are the Trump sycophants?
do you understand that when I read this, as someone for whom the free speech issue is number one in political issues* I read it as “revenge is coming for anyone who supported Trump and those people will be running around erasing their messages of Trump support because something bad will happen to them. I am the agent that will dish out the bad and it will not be pretty.”
It very much reads as someone threatening a tribunal.
* financial solidarity for our country is really my #1 issue but no pol is gonna make that happen, apparently.

I read it that way too. Why do you need an archive of supportive comments if you don't intend to use it in some way? And who interprets what statements are supportive of Trump and which are not?
I'm currently maintaining an archive of every word written by our members here during the entirety of the Trump administration. That includes dozens of instances of me being labeled a Trump supporter, Trumpist, Racist and Misogynist. Will the labeling be enough to harm me in a Democratic administration?

I don't see it as a threat. I see it as simply a desire to preserve data in the event actions by Trump or his administration are discovered to have been illegal. I would would feel that way regardless of political party. I loved Bill Clinton, but I'm happy that Linda Tripp told Monica Lewinsky to save that darned dress. Maybe because I'm in market research, I believe you can never have too much data.
Now, if people want to delete tweets, that is their prerogative. I'm not against free speech. If by chance I wake up tomorrow with a conversion experience that makes me a conservative Republican, I doubt that I would delete any of my posts on this forum, but if I did, it would be your right to have saved them and use them against me in the future.

My brother has had restrictions placed on his Facebook Account.
My brother, a never Trumper, does talk about 2nd Amendment issues on his FB page So that content is I’m sure unpleasant for Zuckerberg and Co. But my brother is quite evenhanded and logical in his arguments, and I think those of a liberal persuasion on this board would find his discourse to be very similar to Alan’s and LDahl’s and bae’s, that is of course for those who give those guys a pat on the head for being “good “conservatives.
He was cut off in FB with this message:
Action Blocked
You’re temporarily restricted from complex entities interactions until November 28 7:03 pm.
I can’t figure out what’s going on with Facebook. When my brother first showed shock and disbelief on his page ( he is blocked from some activities but not others, and I don’t know exactly what he is now restricted from) it was surprising to see how many people jumped in to say oh you couldn’t possibly be blocked for your thoughts.
One of my cousins said it sounds like a message instituted by Iranian hackers because of the Strange language of “ complex entities” And another cousin answered immediately that it couldn’t be any of the Facebook guys behind it. Both of the cousins are fairly liberal in their political Outlook.
I don’t know what to think. I can find lots of theorizing on the Internet about what this FB message means but I haven’t seen any authoritative claim from Facebook saying yes we now block individuals for expressing thoughts on certain topics.
Oh I think AOC has a bit of Madame DeFarge in her. She is also reported to have told Democrats who broke with the party over reporting attempts by illegal immigrants to purchase guns that they were “putting themselves on a list”. Creating an archive for the convenience of cancel culture seems in character.

Oh brother, give us a break!Yes, please do!

Haha, Catherine in a blue dress is a nice and positive contribution to our forum
I’m not sure why AOC is bothering. As McConnel et al made abundantly clear during the recent Supreme Court nomination they simply don’t care what they previously said. Why would they feel any shame about what they may have said about trump.

I assure you, I did not have sexual relations with that man.
I assure you, I did not have sexual relations with that man.
That depends on how you define “sex”.
It can simply be used in future political debates. Like newspapers used to be.

Why does AOC need to threaten it? I’m sure she’s aware that major politicians’ words are pretty much already recorded, so why utter the question?
It is to intimidate anyone who has ever uttered anything positive about trump, that’s why.
I still wanna know who the Trump sycophants are. If anyone has ever posted in about Donald Trump in a positive way at any time, are those folks sycophsnts?
Intriguing that some people want to institute an American ministry of truth to allow history to be rewritten.

I remember when Nixon’s enemies list came out. A lot of people who didn’t make the cut were upset about it. Later, when the Obama people set up that site to squeal on his critics, no one thought enough of me to give me a mention. I was no great admirer of Trump, but even less impressed by some of his more overwrought enemies. So if the “archivists” or their bots are listening, let me say this:
Donald Trump may have been a vulgar buffoon who treated the country like a pair of rented bowling shoes, but I will say this for the man: he spared us a Hillary Clinton administration. For that I will always be grateful.

My cashew chicken turned out good and was liked by neighbors I passed plastic containers of it to. There is much happiness here in Rob's corner of the world. Not only do we have Biden soon but we ARE STILL BLUE.
Things looking better than they did just a short time ago. Rob

You don’t sound at all like me. You speak out the sides of your neck or mouth.... depending.

I have no idea who Cornpop is, but this was pleasant fun.
Glancing at the news this morning, it appears that Trump and his staff do not believe they have lost.

Corn Pop was a gang leader Biden has reported kicking out of a pool when he was a teenaged lifeguard. Joe alleges Corn Pop waited outside the pool with a razor to get back at him but Joe bravely faced him down. It's one of his "I'm a stud" stories.

hmmm, stud.
I have not until this moment had this thought, but Joe Biden is cuter than Donald Trump. If it comes down to older man cuteness, old Joe trumps Trump.

No idea of who Cornpop is! I am shocked.

Sort of like his bogus story about getting arrested in South Africa because he insisted on seeing Mandela in prison. I suppose when you need to live down five draft deferments, you might be inclined to fabricate a badass narrative for yourself.

Well, I suppose they can technically cling to a vain hope until December 14 when the Electoral College meets. After that they’re in Stacy Abrams territory. I’m not seeing any evidence for the putsch people were claiming to be terrified of.

November 6: Lisa Gordon-Hagerty, administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration fired.
November 7: Donald Trump, President, loses election
November 9: Mark Esper, Secretary of Defense fired.
Football, football, who's got the football?

That's a pretty low bar, though.
ETA: Politician-wise, I'm kind of drawn to Michael Steele (more so, all the time) and Angus King of Maine. Really, I'm a sucker for facial hair...

Smiles tend to be more attractive than scowls. Joe looks better than he did 30 years ago.
Joe has had some work done I imagine. I kind of like his Cheshire Cat grin.

Yes I suspect Joe has had plastic surgery, actually I suspect Trump has too, BUT by the same person who did his hair transplants, styles what is left of it, and does his make up …
(yea I know it's wrong to make fun of Trump's looks, one should only make fun of everything else about him)
I dunno. If someone chooses to wear more makeup than bozo I’m going to feel free to make fun of it.
My priest got slapped down by the bishop for posting political stuff on priest’s own FB page. Bishop has made repeated public statements that the priests are to keep anything political related off all social media, even their personal pages. I have long known my priest’s left leanings. There have been issues in the part where he’s made comments from the pulpit that were political. Probably about half the parish is conservative. I’ve told him myself repeatedly that we know his leanings aren’t going to change, but politics of all stripes have no place in the pulpit. Families have left in the past due to it.

I don’t know of one church that avoids the social/political parts of life from the pulpit.

Some issues are Ok, but some aren’t, from the pulpit. As for the current situation, the bishop was trying to avoid splits and such. My priest was shilling for Biden and rejoicing in his victory on social media. That’s what got him slapped down.

That’s true. If morality, based in religion or otherwise, is largely a matter of people relating to people, it’s always going to touch on politics. And when politics are based in ideologies that demand the right to arbitrate human relations, conflict seems inevitable. Thus we see ideologues viewing groups like the Knights of Columbus or the Little Sisters of the Poor as enemies.

Thanks, regardless, lol!
