Does it seem to anyone else that now Elections are over and perhaps effective vaccines are not far off - does it seem that the overall tone of life is a little calmer, a little less strident? Rob

I almost see the opposite - this "I was robbed" drumbeat from Trump & Friends, along with the GOPs refusal to step up and behave, don't really inspire calm and confidence. I worry things are escalating.
Well, I have enough food, water, medical supplies, books, ammo, and chili peppers to survive a few years while y'all sort this out over on the mainland. Good luck to you.

Seems less B&Ming and not my president from the left.
Now from the Republican side, most I know, just say nothing we can do about it now, with the exception of the guy at the top, who once said he was a Democrat.

Hysterics will always find reasons to wax hysterical. If you don’t get a bloody putsch, spin frivolous lawsuits into a coup attempt.
It does seem that the media has switched to making soothing noises. We will hear less about “breaking norms” and more about “transformative change”; less about “resistance” and more about “obstruction”.

I am happier if the media is more soothing than screaming. Now if they could just let go of their Covid Covid Covid coverage every other second I might actually listen to them again.
I gotta say, hearing Flynn recommend the President institute martial law and force a re-vote (ostensibly we will make you vote until we get the answer we want) scares the crap out of me. In the old days, I would just think this is some flake way out there, and dismissed it without a second thought But now with the Republicans mostly quiet about Trump's assertions of fraud, I think this could get some traction.
I feel the same way herbgeek. Used to think we had checks and balances, but our McConnell Senate has proven they have only concern for their careers, not the good of the country or the people.

I think people have come to the conclusion that we are better off with NO PRESIDENT which in many ways we have right now, than with Trump. So we're dropping like flies in a pandemic, and the economy is in shambles, and noone is at the wheel. Still better off in this no president lame duck vacuum, as at least it's not making everything even worse the way more active Trump involvement always does.

What authority does Flynn have to make anything happen?
What authority does Flynn have to make anything happen? None, but his words only encourage the Commander in Chief.
None, but his words only encourage the Commander in Chief.
And, presumably, incite the rabble.
There was a PBS special on how Hitler came to power. Some of the Trump actions to incite his disgruntled followers are scarily similar to things that happened in Germany years before he took power. The Repubs who stand behind Trump even though they don't like him don't want to lose that angry base or their own personal power so they will go along with anything he comes up with. Perhaps it seems calmer now but one has to wonder how it will all go. As I get older, the one thing I will never understand is why it is so hard for humans to get along.
I knew two people who heard Hitler speak, and they both described experiences much like the Trump rallies.
I agree, why can't we all just get along?

I had intended to go to a Trump rally just for historical purposes, but alas COVID put the kabosh on my plans.

To be fair, anything that kills 2800 people at once is newsworthy. (Like 9/11) That covid is likely to keep doing that day after day after day for the foreseeable future even more so.

Aside from the ammo--and if we consider aspirin a medical supply--I'm set for the duration, too.
I feel the same as pinkytoe...we're not finished with this problem and unless people start speaking out we're in for more of the same hatefulness.
The people I know have gotten over Trump was robbed and have moved on to Biden will raise taxes, my 401K will crash, gas will go up to $10 a gallon, etc.

All valid concerns, perhaps exaggerated but he can't make his base happy without trying.

Calling them ‘frivolous lawsuits’ sounds remarkably similar to how republicans have often absurdly claimed ‘he was just joking’ after some Trump assholery that was most definitely not funny. Only to have him state a day latter ‘I most definitely was not joking.’ And, as with his non-jokes, even a casual glance at the comments section on any article on Fox News will confirm that there are plenty of people out there who don’t find his pathetic sore loser lawsuits to be frivolous.

Where to begin... ROFLOL.
Because everyone believes that THEY are right and everyone else is WRONG.
Because different people have different values/beliefs and believe everyone should share/believe those same values and/or that their values are better and more important than the values/beliefs of others.
Because most people think of "I" first, instead of "we" or "us".
Because some people are so unhappy that they want everyone else to be just as unhappy.
Shall I go on?? LOL.
The latest I am hearing from conservatives at work is that Harris and Pelosi are conspiring to derail Biden by pushing Hunter scandals, which they believe Joe is involved in, so that Harris can be president and push a far left agenda.

In today's paper: Negotiations for covid relief
Democrats came out swinging at a key obstacle: a provision by conservative Toomey R-PA, that would close down more than $400 billion in potential Federal Reserve lending powers established under a relief bill in March. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin is shutting down the programs at the end of December, but Toomey's language goes further, by barring the Fed from restarting the lending next year, and Democrats say the provision would tie Biden's hands and put the economy at risk.
"As we navigate through an unprecedented economic crisis, it is in the interests of the American people to maintain the Fed's ability to respond quickly and forcefully," said Biden economic adviser Brian Deese. "Undermining that authority could mean less lending to Main Street businesses, higher unemployment and greater economic pain across the nation."
The article goes on to say how further destructive this is. If this happens, we know who to blame!!!

Cyber hacks that have gone "unnoticed" by this administration for months.
All the pardons that are being proposed, as well as, the great number of killings on death row.
Calm... I don't think so!

I remember when Rodney King said this. I thought he made sense. He had a sad life and a sad end. I thought he made a lot of sense.
"Far left" in this country is a joke. Are they kidding?

They really believe this stuff, though to my mind Pelosi is a centrist and Kamaleon will take on whatever colors serve her ambition.

I've noticed a lot of people, mostly east and west coasters, seem to think that left is center. I kid you not.
My Canadian family thinks our Republicans and Democrats are very alike. Our parties are far-right and centrist-right. They think we don’t have a party on the left.

It must take a lot of pushing to create scandals around a guy who’s been dead for five years.

I meant Hunter. I will correct my post.

My point exactly.

Calmer seems like a pipedream at the moment, no? I just wish society at large could takeba few weeks off to slow down and be completely non-productive in society's eyes - and calm down and think. And be serene enough to hear themselves think. Rob
