Is anyone else getting this? My face in that area is red, sore, and so dry it is flaking for about a week now. I have never had rosacea or similar skin problems before.

No because I’m always home without a mask because I have long covid since July.

I prefer maskne to long covid.

(I realize Yppej blocked me. I answer sometimes for the benefit of others. It’s a whispered side conversation ...)

I realize I am probably blocked as well, but I wear a mask 8 hours a day at work, which is physical and I do sweat. I just wash regularly and dry completely once the mask is off - good hygiene goes a long way.

I've had to wear masks for years. Proper skin care seems to address most of the issues.

My CPAP causes more problems, but even that is manageable.

You should see the marks a ventilator leaves though!

FYI - do folks realize that - if someone who is not blocked quotes a post from someone who is blocked - the quote of that blocked post will show up. LOL. Just saying.... ;)

At least, that is how it ended up last time I checked.

How do you see who has blocked you?

Yppej, this article gives some suggestions--it is from the American Academy of Dermatology:

Disposable masks are much easier on the face than thicker cotton cloth ones. Seems the cloth ones hole the moisture against the skin. I tried both while exercising and walkng. Prefer the disposables.

Thank you Tybee. Some of those things I am already doing. My company issued mask at work is nylon which could be an issue. We have masks for customers who need one. I will see what those are made of and can I get one, it might be better.

I definitely agree with this. The cloth ones my sister in law made for me are fine for short shopping trips to the grocery store. But when I'm out hiking and working up a sweat they kinda suck. She made some lighter weight ones that are better and also easier to pull up and down because they use elastic that goes behind my head. THese are fine now that the weather is cooler but will still kinda suck once summer is back. But back in the summer I found that disposable surgical masks were the best for exercising. They are comfortable enough that I just generally leave it on for the whole hike. The cloth ones have to be washed after one hike because once I've sweat all over them they start to smell, even if I hang them up to dry as soon as I get home. The disposables just go in the trash as soon as I have washed my hands after walking in the door. And keeping a box of them in the center console of the car is super easy so that I always have one available.

DH and I are both somewhat acne-prone, in fact DH had horrible cystic acne when he was younger. We have noticed that we are having bit more acne on our lower faces than usual for this time of year, but it's not a particularly big deal.

No maskne for me or the wife. She made our masks from scratch and they fit our heads perfectly, so perhaps that helps?

I also agree with this. I found the cotton masks to be very confining. I bought a big box of disposables at Costco and they're not cute, fun, or classy, but they are comfortable and breathable. I would imagine they might be easier on the skin also.

My skin might be a little worse for wearing masks, but that's minor and purely vanity.

I don't know what disposables people are wearing, I've probably tried most types of masks out there in this pandemic (including the Korean version of N95s etc. - I mean really every mask out there almost - I'm trying exotic masks now).

Mostly whether they are masks I'm going to wear or not is all about fit, but one of my least favorite are disposable surgical type I tried. Though it is what they wear in doctors offices etc. so *someone* must find them comfortable. Most comfortable: non-rigid cotton with no nose grip and ties (and this is probably not at all the most protective) or actually I find KN95 types to be wearable for quite a few hours. I'm mostly not wearing masks for hours so I can do N95s such as I've gotten for the grocery or cotton if just socializing outdoors etc. But I've had to go to the office some, basically because the monopoly high speed internet provider is well as bad as you'd expect such a monopoly to be, so .... There aren't many people there with most working from home most of the time, but gotta mask if I have to go there. I may literally have to double up internet coverage just to get reliable internet coverage, first world countries have the decent internet infrastructure thing figured out, but alas I don't live there.

The free masks at work are junk. One broke before I could put it on, another within a minute of putting it on. I may have to get creative and take a needle and poke small holes not visible through the pattern of the mask so I can get more air on my face.

What a vile selfish moronic thing to do.

300k Americans are now dead. The medical staff have horrible marks, redness, sores, rashes on their faces from working long shifts with masks and I have never heard one complain. Also all of those people that died weren’t on deaths door. They died because of the virus and if we lose 1% of our country that’s 3.4 million souls.

What the embattled front line workers do lament is the staggering number of people in this country continue to act irresponsibly.

I knew that. But they're very vocal about people carelessly taking chances with their own and others' health--like not wearing masks.

That's up there with using your mask as a handkerchief, then turning it inside out to expose everyone to your germs, as well as the aesthetics of having to look at your snot.
