I see Rita Hart has submitted a complaint asking the House to overturn an election she lost to a Republican by six votes. Is this one of those “threats to our democracy” I keep hearing about?

I suppose that depends on the details...

Tight races such as that are the reason we must remain vigilant to voting fraud. I know that fraud is rare and likely has no impact on national races but I'm not so sure about local races for elected office or tax levies, or even congressional races.

The easier we make it to cast a ballot the more likely it is that these tight races may be usurped.

Before DT, we rarely had complaints about voter fraud. Now, because of him, people lament ad nauseam. Makes a person wonder what else unnecessarily will constantly be complained about because of his (many times ridiculous) claims. His presidency caused problems that may never go away....

Yes, one of those problems and annoyances being endless carping about Donald Trump

I can imagine that any elections results from a large population would have a small and usually inconsequential margin of error that may or may not be related to any voter fraud. I'd hardly call it a threat to democracy.

The easier we make it to vote, the larger the turnout and the more representative the vote will be of the will of the people. There obviously has to be security safeguards with any voting system and I don't know that one is any more secure than another without some sort of evidence.

... of poor people, people of color, single Moms, and that sort of riff-raff. Can't have that....

Pretty pathetic that some don’t want everyone to vote.

I want eligible people to vote appropriately according to law. I don’t want “everyone “to vote because “everyone “ is not eligible.

I want eligible people to vote appropriately according to law. I don’t want “everyone “to vote because “everyone “ is not eligible.I think what we're missing in this discussion is that it would only take a handful of fraudulent votes to turn the race in question into a win for the Democrats. It's a perfect opportunity to infer that anyone in favor of enforcing election rules is a racist or sexist or outright social troglodyte. It seems to be normal behavior for many so we shouldn't take it personally.

ah, ok. Those fraudulent votes are not hard to turn up. I’m sure urban Democrats know how to do that, but just in case they need a lesson, send them to St. Louis.

Of course I meant people eligible to vote. That goes without saying. Unfortunately the reverse is more true that we make it harder for people especially poor, people of color, etc as Bae noted to vote that are eligible.

I see in the Atlantic that the Democratic Party of NYC is trying to delay implementing rank-choice voting, which they pushed for in a referendum approved last year. They are now calling it “vote gentrification”, and claiming that it would be too hard for POC to understand without more “voter education”.

I also see a piece in the Nation promoting vote reparations by counting each black vote twice.

More states are looking at creating or enforcing laws against “ballot harvesting”, whereby activists bring ballot forms for voters to fill out and submit them in bulk.

There seem to be all kinds of weirdness connected to election mechanics.

We’re just simple country folk here in Washington and just mail in our ballots.

Isn't this what all the ruckus of trump suing and taking to court? They all found it all bogus even the supreme court wouldn't touch it.

The crazy bit about all this republican fear of voter fraud is that the president, the leader of their party, fraudulently voted by using the address of a business he owns in Florida as his residence despite the fact that when he converted it from a residence to a business 27 years ago the county was quite explicit that it could not be used as a residence. But law and order only goes one direction in the republican world.

It is clear that the GOP does everything it can to try to keep the wrong people from voting.

Yes, considering that all the concern about "voter fraud" took place in big blue cities, I've come to realize that just like the way "fake news" doesn't mean fake news but actually means "news that I don't like", "voter fraud" doesn't actually mean voter fraud, but as you say, means "too many of the wrong people are voting"
