I see that my next-door neighbors with their Joe Biden sign still in their yard have jetted off to another place. This is at least the fifth “vacation” in as many months. But then, I don’t know what’s going on because honestly his dad died so that’s hardly a vacation and they had to go out of state for that event, So perhaps this is another death event. But somehow I doubt it.
They are lovely people and very nice neighbors but, yeah, traveling a lot while wearing masks ...
edited to add: DH said our neighbors rented a car for their vaycay, so that is perhaps not as egregious as flying. I dont know, judges? jp1?

We have an old friend who lives alone, and he is stopping by this afternoon for a visit outdoors. We have another friend who might do the same.
DH & I will be stopping by for a brief indoor visit with my mom tomorrow. Because she has AD, I treat her as being within our bubble because I really don't have much choice. She needs my help with stuff, so I do go into her house regularly to handle paperwork, do laundry, line up her medications, put away groceries, etc. We always wear masks and we don't share meals together.
There's no "I am gathering moss." :~)
I've spent Christmas mostly alone for some years now--friends and family are either dead or far away. I really don't miss the frantic wrapping sessions I used to inflict on myself at the last minute, but sitting around eating chips and clam dip and leisurely opening gifts was pleasant. I look forward to doing it again some day. :)

I put "gathering with people outside my household" because while that's true, it's my DD and SIL who just were tested negative last week, and they both work from home and are pretty much hermits.
It depends on what you mean by gathering. When walking the dog, I visit with regulars while properly distanced, sometimes for an hour or more. i will be eating on my own but visiting via Facetime while doing so. I have no idea what my neighbours are doing as it is none of my business, IMHO anyway.

Why are you judging them? You don't know any of the details???

I thought it was OK to judge the less than perfect behavior of people in flyover country!!!
you mean, it’s not? so confused...
What about fines? Will they get fines? Frugal-one, you are all about fining people. What are the conditions under which my neighbors would get fined?
Saw on FB where DD is gathering with all of the in-law family. All dressed in elf suits - ick!! I hope they are taking precautions as one works in a medical facility and all of the kids go to daycare.

Whatever is determined by people who have that authority. I believe some privileged people need an incentive to follow the rules. This is not a political but a health issue we are talking about.
Yesterday, my wife and I packed up our 21st Century Conestoga Wagon, harnessed it to a 300 horse powered buggy fed by diesel and initiated a leisurely trip to an Atlantic beach in the southern US where we're currently quietly sequestered about 20 yards from the ocean at high tide. It's 70* and raining at the moment and from our window we can watch strong winds blowing high waves onto the white sands which provide us with our annual white Christmas.
We'll stay here enjoying each others company till the new year and then head home again.

Well that would be enough to keep me from moving back to TX, but that's just me.

That sounds delightful. Enjoy!

Inspiring! I just had to slog through snow to get some more wood for the fire. Your approach seems quite sensible!

It would make me nervous having to go every few days into grocery stores and stopping for gas.... that's just me. Many of my neighbors and other people I know are now testing positive for COVID. I am hunkered down. I truly wish you well and that you have a wonderful time.
Pay at the pump gas is very low risk.
People need groceries whether they’re in their house or their RV.
Alan’s plan is perfect.

Alan's RV is probably roughly the same size as my boat, and presumably has food storage capabilities. I can go for months without needing groceries if I plan ahead a wee bit before I leave.

Yep the in-laws are "family is everything" types so I feel a bit for DD. Fun when kiddos are little but cloying as the years go by - at least it was for me. Primary impetus for escaping to somewhere else in retirement just to see what doing our own thing for once was like.
I’m spending Christmas alone as I’m the only one in my household.
