Different threads have included architectural or interior decoration that is neat to know about and see for all those who love the uniqueness of each property, large or small.
I have lived in Hamilton ON and never knew about this unusual property. Is it worth $9 million?

Maybe....not for me. Creepy. Lost me with the tower.

The tower looks like an afterthought that might come crashing down in an earthquake, but we'll see what someone pays for it.
This lovely came to me in an email a couple of days ago:

8 BR and 9.5 baths for a single family dwelling! Whew...and it looked like there are two kitchens. (I liked the smaller, cozier one). The only photo that didn't give me anxiety was the attic space with the couches.

I had the feeling that I needed roller blades to get around, Jane. I love pink but that was too much pink for me. I did like the colour of the kitchen, simple and light.

With both of those houses I got the feeling I usually get when I order dinner at a restaurant and they put a plate in front of me that could feed an army. The feeling is a combination of dread and distaste.

In general, I love old houses, but if they are too cavernous or suggest too much maintenance I'm done. DH used to really love the idea of mini-castles--homes that are normal size but with castle features--interesting architecture, a lot of stonework, lead-paned glass--stuff like that--but sized for a medium family, not the Royal family.

The Hamilton house is too big for me, as is the Portland house. I like the shade of blue on the exterior of the Portland house.

An amazing house that I can think of is Taliesan West (https://franklloydwright.org/taliesin-west/) by Frank Lloyd Wright. I went on a tour of that house and loved it. I'd also love to visit Falling Water.

Gorgeous old thing! Too huge to contemplate realistically.

The biggest house in my neighborhood of Victorians is around 8,000 sq ft.

The Schuyler house is not my style--and way too big--but it's beautifully restored. Oddly, that's a giveaway price considering there are lots of houses in Portland valued at over a million, including my grandparents' house which is about a third the size of that one and only a couple of hundred thousand less. The Schuyler house just screams bed and breakfast to me.

The bed and breakfast Inn business has been decimated with Covid and Air BnB. It does seem to have a healthy number of bathrooms, however.

I also like pink but definitely over the top. Both are beautiful places but I cannot live in huge spaces.

Catherine, I've seen both FLWright's that you mentioned. Falling Water is much darker due to its setting in the woods over a stream, but it is amazing. I like the Taliesan West better, mainly due to the setting.

What I found absolutely incredible about Taliesan West was how I was introduced to that building. My son and I drove up to the site, and went to this little lone ticket booth and purchased our tickets. As I didn't see any building at all, I thought to myself, "oh, I guess they have a shuttle bus that will drive us to the site." But no, out comes the tour guide who walks us around a little hill, and there was the building jutting out over the desert, but it was completely invisible to visitors who were less than 1/4 mile from it. One of FLW's principles, of course, is designing buildings that integrate with its natural surroundings, and Taliesan West certainly did that in spades. It was so beautiful.

Biltmore House was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt and is America's Largest HomeŽ spanning 175,000 square feet, which is more than four acres of floor space. The 250-room French Renaissance chateau includes 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, and 65 fireplaces.

Now that's a castle!
