I've had pulsatile tinnitus for about 13 years. It's never gone away, but lessened a little. Several weeks ago it got soooooooooo loud, I could hardly stand it. I went to an ear doc and apparently I'm losing hearing in the higher frequencies. Apparently when that happens, you can develop tinnitus and also (which bugs me a lot), hear low rumbling sounds constantly. Also, I guess this is common as we age. He said that there are high frequency hearing aids that let you hear those high frequencies better and they drown out the tinnitus and low frequency humming that you might be hearing. He also suggested using something like a fan or white noise to drown that sound out, like at night. But......those things make me hear voices and/or music! It's very curious! I'd rather have the tinnitus! :)

Just wondering if any of the rest of you have had higher frequency hearing loss and have tried the type of hearing aid that's supposed to help that?

Curious.........I can hear high frequency sounds, at least I think I can......but the test showed otherwise.

Thanks!

DH has high-frequency hearing loss. I have to tell him when the microwave is beeping, or when the teakettle is whistling. If a restaurant server is a young woman with a high-pitched voice, he looks to me to translate.

I don't think he has other symptoms, like tintinitus. He got a hearing aid several years ago, but never uses it--just like his mother, who we took for several visits to an audiologist, and she spent thousands for a hearing aid, but she never used it.

I have hearing loss, and I think part of that is high frequency stuff. I know this because while I was still working there would be sounds my staff complained about that I couldn't hear.

But I feel no need to go out to get a hearing aid. In fact, my friends were just talking about this very issue during our .zoom cocktail session. One of them had hearing aids a few years ago and I tried his out, and it worked ok. Another one of our friends is a real estate professional who does wear them.

I told the group I don’t have hearing aids because I don’t need them because I don’t go out to meet with people very often and I don’t have professional obligations. Other people have different responsibilities.

I had a hearing test a couple years ago when I developed tinnitus. Apparently I have some high frequency loss but not more than normal. I can still hear microwaves and such just fine. Honestly I was surprised that my hearing test came back normal since I spent a decade frequenting loud dance clubs regularly.
