This happened close to where I live. It made the national news so you may have seen it already.

Be careful out there and take it seriously when temps get below freezing, especially if you live in an area that seldom gets snow or ice.

Even up here it takes people a snowy drive or two to 1) remember that it's slippery out and 2) it has to be driven on differently or massive pileups result. Fortunately, in places like Texas, it'll melt in several days. I will not see the asphalt of my driveway or our street until March or April.

I saw a mention of the Texas pileup in the headline news that flashes across my iPad screen regularly. Looks pretty awful.

I saw multiple bits of video. Looked like a lot of people were going pretty fast.

I feel particularly bad for the people who had no choice about driving in this kind of weather. Although we've had less and less snow and ice in recent years, I well remember many white-knuckle drives on the ice that used to be a feature of freezing temperatures in this area.

I saw multiple bits of video. Looked like a lot of people were going pretty fast.65 is slowpoke speed on our 65mph freeways. 70 is common and even 75. Afaik almost no one slows down unless it's so foggy or raining so hard you can't see the vehicle ahead of you. With just light rain or drizzle everyone was probably driving their normal 65+ speed in spite of it being way below freezing temp. That's how messes like this usually happen.

It looked bad. We are in MI and the roads we just get through. Understanding totally the difference in the south, not equip to salt and clear. Husband was in Arlington TX yesterday and said the roads were so bad. Amazingly flights were not delayed in afternoon.

Yes, I saw the headlines and a couple of picture as well. Prayers going out to all involved.

Our last snowstorm hit about 10pm, so drove home during some of the heaviest fall. Half hour commute turned into an hour but was VERY impressed with how cautious and safe those few truckers and other drivers out at midnight actually were. Laughable moment, at one point we saw the plows following behind us - LOL.
