For a few days. Tomorrow the Chauvin trial starts in Minneapolis. Surprise! I am skipping it. I'm still not over January 6th and it's implications - don't need to be following this right now - the trial will proceed just fine without me. Rob

I don't blame you. I was watching news with the focus of a snake charmer for years, but now that the government is on an even keel again, I can relax some.

I only watch the local news or perhaps PBS NewsHour. Most of my news comes from the local all news station, BBC Radio, or the New York Times.

I don’t watch the news but of course I get it multiple places as I’ve said many times. I am Enjoying the respite from all Trump all the time.

I find reading or listening to the news less stressful than watching it.

I have seen the news once, since August 19th, the day my boss died. Not enough time and list of stuff grows.

I used to keep CNN on as background noise all the time, but honestly, I can't stand CNN over the past couple of years. A one-trick pony. Not saying other major TV news outlets aren't also one-trick ponies. All kinds of other things may be impacting the world beside the ONE issue they pursue, but it all goes by the wayside in their quests to pursue the Agenda du Jour.

It's a waste of time. I prefer the folksy local news these days. The weatherman is more interesting to me than Wolf Blitzer and his expert guests.

I think it is a good idea to take a break or shift media focus every now and then. Right now, I'm mainly just reading headlines, usually online, and only going to the article itself if my curiosity is tickled. I would like to shift to a little more world news, though.

Good luck and enjoy your break!

Happy, the BBC website is excellent for international news.

I used to watch it all the time before going cable-less. Is it free access directly from the website? I'll have to check it out. Thanks.

You can just read it. Some PBS stations also carry a 30 min BBC newscast M-F.

You can also listen to BBC Radio online. A lot of people like the World Service.

I watch the news most days. It’s much calmer with Trump gone. I like it that way. I watched the interview with Harry and Meghan last night and talk about burning bridges with your family.

Yes the Harry and Megan story is all over the place. It’s one of the three stores we are supposed to be paying attention to.

Stimulus bill interest is fading and the dastardly actions of conservative Democrats to not raise the minimum-wage to $15 is rising.

Remember, there are 3-5 stories is a day we are supposed to pay attention to. I’m not sure why we’re supposed to be so interested in Harry and Megan. We are all Sheeple being manipulated by idiots.

I listen to world news service or BBC which ever one it is, as broadcast through my local NPR station once in a while. I don’t make an effort to listen to it often but I do like it when I do listen to it.

I think that's because broadcast news is entertainment. It may take a while for the media to create another Trump like figure to fill the void and bring those breathless 'news' consumers back into the mold. Harry and Megan may be trying out for the role.

They ARE trying to fill a void aren’t they?

Well their go-to girl Oprah is offering herself up for that.

I watched it while reading mainly for entertainment. Rich people whining. I seriously doubt Meghan was suicidal. She loves herself too much:)).

Terry, yes, my attitude, too. I didn’t watch it but her comment about not deliberately having googled Harry was odd.

I hope I am dead by then. I can/could not stand all the drama and chaos.

I consumed more news in 2020 than at any other time in my life, and I really need to work at getting myself back onto my low news diet. As far as Harry and Megan are concerned, there are stories about them all over my various online newsfeeds and I cannot fathom why anyone would even care about them. I am as little interested in them as I am in football, and there is no lower bar to sink beneath in Rosaland.

Now that I am driving my son's car, which does not have a radio, I have gotten used to no news, no music, no noise during my commute. It is kind of nice. On the other hand I do talk to myself more than I used to.

But are you answering yourself? That’s the real question.

Maybe once in a while :)

I did not watch the interview but found very revelatory that the British royal family is more concerned about how dark a baby's skin will be than about Prince Andrew being a pedophile.

I love just about every comment on this thread...I do watch PBS/BBC News hour sometimes...otherwise I'm on a news diet after swallowing too much during the reign of the Orange Thing...

Following local news is much better for my brain--no mass murders in our little town so far...

I am driving a car with a radio again, but usually just catch the headlines. I have cut back on the Sunday morning news shows also. Without the horse race of an election year it's just not that interesting. Plus the guy I used to debate with at work was moved to another part of the building.

I'm not watching much national news either. Back to scanning print/online news. Much better than same old stuff discussed ad nauseam.

There is very little going on on a national level (honestly not much going on here on a non-national level either). Covid is declining of course. But in terms of non-covid news the government is pretty much MIA as it's hopelessly gridlocked. So there isn't that much news.

I'm basically catching headlines when I'm online and only reading the article when it is of interest. Normally I don't read them as the advertising and the way they write them, it takes forever to get to the point! I have managed, however, to get our free local paper the last couple of weeks and it is nice to have a physical newspaper to read again - even if very, very thing.

Local news and the weather is about it these days unless some big happening pulls me in. While on our road trip, the hotels only had Fox News stations and some other weird squawky news stations (Amarillo - go figure). So odd that people get hooked on that stuff. I am newsed out after the Trump/pandemic era.
