Would you personally travel domestically? The CDC recommends against it. We are itching for a short trip to the Borderland. Just wondering if others would travel. Rob

I don't know if I personally would, but I also am not sure you wouldn't be OK traveling. I know people who have flown and planes are packed. My daughter's MIL is a flight attendant and she's been working throughout COVID, and apparently the air filtration/ventilation on airplanes is actually pretty good. She hasn't gotten COVID and she's obviously been on a lot of planes. I haven't read anything about planes being super spreaders.

However, it depends on your personal comfort level. As I said, I'm fine with not flying until herd immunity has been reached. I see no reason to push my luck.

You Will be driving, right? By borderland you mean Mexico?

Yes I would take a car trip With someone in my pod and participate in outdoor activities.Mask up and socially distance. That seems to me to be complying with CDC recommendations.

I won’t get on an airplane. And Catherine yeah I’ve read those articles about how good the air filtration system is, but nonetheless there’s all those issues of queuing up in a bunch to get to the front desk, queue up to get into the plane, queue up to get baggage. I’m not doing it.

Wasn’t there is a grand Pooh Bah of health early in this Covid thing who claims to have gotten Covid through his eyeballs? While on a plane?

It would depend entirely on the details

It would depend entirely on the detailsI agree wholeheartedly with this. I think some folks define travel as getting on a plane, going to someplace where others congregate, go to plays/concerts/other public events and eat in restaurants. I was one of those folks up until about 10 years ago.

Now, I define travel as loading up our home on wheels and wandering around scenic landscapes where people are more scarce than the local wildlife. I'll be doing a fair amount of that this year without fear of the declining possibility of illness even without the vaccine.

For the record though, I did score appointments for both rounds of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday. I'll get the first one on Monday and the second one on April 5th. My wife has already had the first and will receive the second next week.

I would fly and stay in a hotel. And I would practice safe rules. Always mask. Don't sit anywhere in the airport, wander around. Carry wipes and wipe down my entire seat area. Don't use the tray table. Take my own water bottle and accept nothing from the flight attendant. Use hand sanitizer. Don't touch self. Wear glasses for eye protection from coughs. Repeat with car. Hotel: wipe everything down that I will touch/use.

Car trip: easier than all of the above until hotel accommodations.

That said, I wouldn't go to a place still struggling with high rates. Or like right now, w/TX totally lifting restrictions-way too early for that!

I'd probably stick with the CDC recommendations, although if it were something more than a pleasure trip I could see making exceptions. Like seeing a close family I'd not seen in a year or helping someone who is sick and having problems.

I miss travel more than I can say. I'm still going to be waiting for awhile. I want the economy to recover as much as I want people to recover. I don't want to put the money into travel to find that many things are still closed when I get there. I haven't eaten inside a restaurant since this started and I'm still not ready to. Not wanting to see indoors things until we are much further in the vaccination process and numbers are waaaaaaay down.

I've been traveling throughout the Midwest since last May. Driving. I stay in hotels. I rarely eat in restaurants, usually getting carry out or from a drive through.

I travel for my diving so I'm outside in small groups.

Yes I would and I would not worry about infecting others. Vaccines work - that's why we get them. However I want my vacations to be enjoyable so I would not be going places where I have to wear a mask. I also would not get on a plane where I have to wear a mask. At the moment all the states within nearby driving distance have mask mandates, so I do not plan to go anywhere.

Yet, contrary to the current guidance from the CDC.

I could have written this post and agree wholeheartedly. Also, not interested to going to states that have completely opened up now. It is too soon IMO.

Wasn’t there is a grand Pooh Bah of health early in this Covid thing who claims to have gotten Covid through his eyeballs? While on a plane? We continue to be an auto free household to make the economic math work while facing continually rising costs as we all do. Tying this in to a point - we'd either get a ride down from our tenant who is dating a woman interestingly enough on a short term working visa from Nogales, Mexico. Which makes things easier to travel as the border shuttles are up and running again but SO has not had any covid shots to date. I would perhaps get on this shuttle - but I've had both shots. The covid variants have me spooked though and as much as I am skeptical of the US, I do tend to have some faith in the CDC. I do believe their guidance should be at a bare minimum factured in.

And guidance changes so fast! Just a couple of weeks ago one of the nurses at the clinical trial site gave me my second Pfizer jab and said - Now you can travel domestically in two weeks. And now the CDC advises against such. I will probably go - not having to get on the public shuttle definitely makes going easier. Rob

It seems there have been numerous incidents of people acting up on planes during the pandemic and I have no desire to be 30K feet above the earth in a long aluminum tube with other passengers potentially acting up against pandemic travel realities. Hard pass on this at the moment. Rob

Rob, are the cross border shuttles jammed or do they space people out?

It is sad beyond belief. Many have learned "It's all about me" well. A++++ And F**K everyone else. Selfishness has never been my strong suit. Let me guess, I'll be labeled a doormat for having compassion and brains.

Oh never fear, you’ve been active in calling others out, science denyers and etc. So, you can rest on those laurels!

I'm looking forward to associating more freely with my sister, meeting her new boyfriend and sharing some meals with my poor mom who has been eating alone for way too long.

I'm thrilled to say I am going to take a class at the gym tomorrow!!! And then, go into a store and get what I need without rushing in and out. I may actually look around! It has been a long while!

This is a class where you have to register and only so many can attend social distanced. I was number 4 this morning. CDC says ok if masked and vaccinated. It is held in a very large ventilated room. Even before the pandemic this gym was very cautious. I am happy to get back into an exercise routine!

that might be ok but I m still not doing it. Does this class use equipment?i Would not want to use equipment but I might do in aerobics type Class with adequate spacing between participants.

It's great you can eat with your mom again. Is she in assisted living?

My mom lost so much cognitively over the last year without socialization. Eating alone in the room--she lost so much weight.

I plan to get the J & J shot as soon as it comes around. I just wish I could get DH to get vaccinated but he is hell-bent on not getting one. I no longer "discuss" it with him as that is his choice. Not sure how that works when planning trips etc when one spouse is vaccinated and not the other.

I’m talking to my spouse who is not going to get a vaccine right away about my solo trips to Europe and how much fun it will be. I tell him how glad I am he can stay home and watch the dogs and the house, that makes it so much easier for me as I gallivant all over Europe.
