My DS (24) is engaged! They've been together for about 18 months now and seem really happy. She's graduating from college in May and is a go-getter. She may end up getting a job in a larger metro area and so I expect they'll be leaving in the near future. Excited for them and their new life together but just the tiniest tug on my heartstrings, too.

Seeing the kids get a positive start on their adult lives is always exciting. Thanks for sharing

That's exciting! I recall our shock/happiness a few years back when our now son-in-law knocked on the door one night, came in nervously and said he would like our blessings to marry our daughter.

Indeed - I spoke to the bride's mom last night. Apparently, the couple had already been planning stuff before the engagement. Looking at an outdoor (!) wedding early October this year. I'm meeting with the bride and mom tonight to get some plans going. Bride's mom and I are on the same page as far as financial support, so that's encourating.

Great news!

I attended a memorable outdoor wedding... the father of the bride danced her down the center aisle to a recording of "The Beer Barrel Polka"! But that was in Wisconsin.

When I was young all the weddings had polkas and my high school boyfriend taught me how. It was so much fun!!

Outside wedding October in Kansas might be iffy. I have lived in Wichita twice. September might be better. Is it windy where you are? Wichita is seriously windy on a daily basis. I could never sit outside and read the newspaper. I also lived in Salina for a year for a job and that was a nice small town. Also pretty unlike Wichita. Kansas is the cheapest place I have ever lived. My ex still lives there and houses are so cheap.

We're in Topeka. They chose the new Japanese Garden that's part of the Zoo. More expensive, but more room and very beautiful. They could move it inside to the reception hall if necessary. https://topekazoo.org/kaysgarden/ (http://www.simplelivingforum.net/topekazoo.org/kaysgarden/)

The link didn’t work but having the option of moving it inside is perfect. Kansas can be hot in October or really nice. Hope you get a great weather day.

That is great news. One of my favorite young ladies in my life just got married. Cannot be happier for her. Exciting time for them. :)
