I am signed up for a nearby mass vaccination event coming up and wondering if anyone here has gotten their shots at one? I wish I could just go to the doctor's office and get one but this was the only place I found availability.

My sister and BIL who live in NC went to a mass event fairly close and were impressed with how well it was all managed for both jabs. No complaints at all.

I did the drive thru one here in Oakland. They've been doing about 6500 jabs/day since early february. When it first opened they were disorganized with long lines of cars. When I went last week they were super organized and very professional. Within 10 minutes of arriving I was being poked. Fifteen minutes after that I was headed home.

I would be thrilled to attend a mass vaccination event--especially a drive-through, as i try to avoid doctors' offices whenever possible.

Well...just this morning there have been J & J adverse reactions at a few of the mass sites and they are shutting them down. Mine isn't until Sunday but we'll see how this plays out in the next day or so.

That's interesting Pinkytoe. I had to wait for the J&J due to possible adverse reactions and being turned down for the Pfizer. Mine went off without a hitch. I'll be interested to hear what is happening.

The National guard ran the one I went to and it was fast and efficient. It was a drive through.

I'm volunteering at an indoor site (electronic records). 13 vaccine stations and 900+ patients per day.

There are several other large sites in town. We all are following safety protocols, managing social distancing, mandatory mask without exception.

Are your concerns addressed if that site is doing the same?

This one is run by Centura; I have no idea what their reputation is for doing things right. Honestly, I am a bit concerned about the J & J vaccine with their recent manufacturing flub and the adverse effects. Because of some bad medical experiences in the past, I am phobic about shots, procedures etc. I am leaning towards canceling and going with the Pfizer since it seems to be available everywhere.

I was happy to do the drive through. No large building with lots of people sharing my airspace. And I didn’t have to deal with finding parking, etc. the only potential downside I can think of is inclement weather. In Sam Diego they had to shut down for a couple hours a few weeks ago because of lightning.

Can't argue with this. I took Pfizer and it is showing the best results in the next clinical trial for age 12-15. And they have carefully started the trial for age 6m-11y.

If 200 is a mass event, I accompanied my mother to one a couple of weeks ago. Pretty well run; not many people over the four hours they held the event and a big room. I do know people who've gone to bigger events and they were quite pleased with how well they were run. Their biggest negative was the wait by the entrance in their cars.

Yes, I'm glad I got Pfizer's vaccine. Plus I had absolutely no side effects.

We both got Pfizer, and I had a bad first week with the first shot. We both felt very tired after the second shot, and then I had a delayed reaction of hives on my face the third day, but benadryl took care of it.

Kids got the Moderna with no side effects.

It seems very random who gets what side effects, if any. In many cases, it might be the excipients rather than the active ingredient causing issues.

I have to admit that I'm a bit nervous about my upcoming 2nd shot of Moderna. With some of the side effects and their timing that I've been reading about, I think I'll be good for Monday night's shift, but will wait and see about Tuesday.... just not sure. Trying to be patient and just see what happens. :|(

Husband and I had Moderna- the second shot gave us muscle aches for a day and my husband had an itchy swelling of the arm for several days, but nothing debilitating.

Yeah they do seem random. I’ve seen reports from random otherwise heathy friends that ranged from a day or two or three of miserable from one or both shots of moderna and Pfizer to no side effects at all. As for the J&J I’m one of the few people I know who has gotten it. I had moderate fatigue the following day but no other issues. Since I got it last
Friday afternoon, intentionally in case I had any issues, I just took a nap Saturday afternoon and was fine by the evening.

My wife received both Pfizer injections at a sort of mass vaccination event through her school. The school district provided 2 different in-service days spaced 3 weeks apart for all district employees to receive the vaccine at the local high school. She said it was very well organized and neither she nor any of her elementary school workmates suffered any issues with the vaccine.

I received my second dose of the same Pfizer vaccine last Monday at a County Health Department mass vaccination site. It too was well organized with blocks of approximately 20 people scheduled on specific days in 5 minute increments. For both injections my wait time was under 10 minutes from initial check-in to the application of a bandaid, followed by a 15 minute observation period. I experienced a sore arm for a few days after the first injection but surprisingly not after the second.

I have my completed vaccination card stuck on the refrigerator with a magnet, wondering how long I should keep it handy.

I received an email from the mass vaccination appt saying they were no longer giving J & J due to some adverse reactions and would switch to one of the two shots. I have to wonder how they so quickly came up with the Pfizer/ Moderna in its place. I canceled but logged into Costco and booked an appt for the J & J next week.

Thanks - that's nice to hear. I'm glad it went well for you both. I'm hoping for the same.

My husband is a firefighter/paramedic in Pierce County WA . There was a mass drive through vaccination at one of the fire stations in his district. He was one of the ones working at it. Not only did I go there to get my vaccination ( J&J) but he was the one who gave me mine. And it was his birthday, . So we met up later and went out to dinner after the event was done . Had a wonder sushi dinner too

If 200 is a mass event,

Not even. Our daily schedule is 900 with 13 vaccinators.

A mass event IMO is over 3000...

Gardnr, thanks for working at this vaccination project--that is 4 times the size of my town, so it sounds like a mass event to me, haha. I think it is wonderful that you are helping so many people get vaccinated. I wish we had that kind of accessibility and availability here. We truly don't, and people have to work so hard to find a place where they can get a vaccine, and many people just give up.

So thank you for making it possible for people to get the vaccines. I wish our state was doing this in places where people cannot find vaccines.

I heard from a patient last week, that the National Guard is set up in Northern Idaho to give vaccinations to all those rural life dwellers. It is a 6 month assignment and the "clinic" moves from small town to small town. (I have not verified but can't imagine she made up the story).

Perhaps a letter writing campaign to your Governor from small town dwellers? It is your Governor's responsibility to assure vaccines are accessible.
