... You make your own ice cubes. :)

My NJ grandsons are visiting this week, and they came to the house last night. My 7-year old GS asked for water so I got him a glass of tap water with ice cubes. I left the ice cube tray on the counter. He came in to get the water and picked up the ice cube tray and asked, "what's this?" Then it dawned on him, and he asked me incredulously, "You have to MAKE your own ice cubes?"

I didn't realize I had reached such a high level of radical simplicity!!

You use Oalley to map out a one hour radius from your home to locate places to visit for an upcoming vacation.

Even more incredulous: when we go to Switzerland our relatives thoughtfully buy ice cubes from the store for their American guests because they know we must have ice. Yes you can buy ice cubes in a Swiss store.

Your beverage of choice is mainly hot tea with milk - morning, noon and evening or water without ice. No soda, wine, beer or other beverages, etc.
Favourite spot to relax? My lounger in my garden patio.

Enjoy your little guys!

AND you ran water from the tap!!!! My granddaughter was flummoxed by our refrigerator which didn't dispense water OR ice cubes!

Agreed. This is a big one.

We know one couple who made do with one car for decades and they were both working although now they’ve been retired for quite a while.

Only use a cell phone when we are on the road.... for emergencies. We both were tethered to phones while working and have no desire to have one on and have to keep charged. I am sure in a short while this will no longer be tenable because now everywhere they want a cell phone number or show even boarding passes on the cell phone. We are holding off as long as we can.....

Interesting as I was of the same mind for years.

I am now looking at Bluetooth connection for my cellphone which is long overdue and scrapping the home phone. My iPhone has so much use during my day with few actual phone calls - calendar for appointments, weather forecast, camera, pedometer, map app (love this!!!!), contact list, kindle, news, email, message centre, blogs, podcasts, wallet, lots of helpful apps and so on. I can now understand why cell phones are in such demand. When my cable internet installation was completed last month once restrictions lifted for technician's entry into my home, the technician advised that most of his customers have switched to cell phone only. I was surprised at first but then realized how much I have changed. My phone goes with me everywhere.

I continue to hate my cell phone… I have no desire to upgrade from an Apple S6 because I don’t know what I would get out of it.

We have the smallest garbage can on the street on pick-up day AND it's usually only half full! LOL.

Oh no!!!! My phone is a 6S Plus. I love the size and features so have no idea what I would choose to replace it but it would be an iPhone.

Meanwhile, back to the thread.

I have never had an automatic ice dispenser so making ice is totally normal to me. What goats me is the cheap plastic they are making cube trays out of now. Doesn't take long before they crack from the twisting to dislodge the cubes.

Simple life to me is traveling for almost an hour and seeing more trees/open fields/farmland than buildings/stores.

Klunick, we got some made out of silicone. They were on sale and weird shapes but they work great. Ice pops right out. I have seen those but never knew anyone who tried them to get their opinion. I will definitely snag some next time I see them. Thanks!!

After my niece had visited us, she was about 12 or 13 she asked my sister, her mom, if we had "turned Amish". We had a laugh about that. When my sister asked her why she thought that she said they never buy new cars or clothes. They use stuff until it wears out.

I think that is great and would definitely take it as a compliment!

We do the same thing. Keep a car until it hits over 300,000 miles. Don't buy new cell phones until ours kicks the bucket. New shoes when the ones we are wearing develop holes in the toes or the soles fall off. I hate spending money. Husband asks me what we'd buy if we won the lottery. I said, "Nothing. We'd just stick it in the bank or invest some of it. We have exactly what we need/want now."

I keep my cars until the prices to fix it exceeds the value. I keep my shoes until my feet hurt. My iPhone 7 died so I was forced to buy a 12.

Oh, no x three! Didn't know my time with iPhone 6 is coming to an end!Apple generally supports it's products for 5 years. The iPhone 6s was introduced in September 2015 and while it's still being supported, that may change by the end of the year when IOS 15 comes out. That may be the last IOS update for the 6s. The original iPhone 6 and 6 Plus stopped getting updates after IOS 12.

The good thing is the phone will likely continue to work until it physically dies. The bad thing is that it will likely soon stop receiving IOS updates and at some point apps will not be available for it. I wouldn't worry too much about it yet, you'll probably be good for another year or so before you see any problems at all.

... I get a phishing email from Amazon/Bank of America/Chase/Netflix/Wells Fargo and toss it immediately because I don't have accounts with any of those companies.

I guess technically my phone is a 6 SE and why I even remember that is beyond me. Why so many models of Apple phones.ugh.

Thanks Alan. We both have this model phone and DH uses his all the time, so he may be in for an major upgrade.we will watch out for the time we need to switch.

I would say you have simplified a lot by selling your house in Michigan, and cutting in half the number of states you own property in.

Well, if we want to get really technical, the first iPhone SE model was based on the iPhone 5 and was released about the same time as the iPhone 6s and 6sPlus. The second iPhone SE model was released just last year and was based on the iPhone 8. Both SE models look like the models they're based upon but have updated processors and cameras.

I believe the original SE and the 6s will be eligible for updates through the release of IOS 15 later this year but Apple has not committed to further updates after that. The second generation SE should be good for another 4 or maybe 5 years.

Simpler for us, true. We don't live simply, though--for me, I think it would be not having to get into the car and not having family demands. That would be simpler.

My condo has certainly simplified my life. I don’t have yard work which I always hated. I have one plant on my balcony and I can look at our beautiful courtyard which is very green and someone else takes care of:)).
