View Full Version : Disincentives to Work More
When winter comes:
I won't have yardwork to do
I am no longer able to enjoy going to the library
The thought of a second job has crossed my mind because I am behind on retirement savings. However, if I earn more then if we get stimulus payments in the future I might earn too much to qualify for them. Am I better off not working more so I can potentially get free money instead?
I thought the pandemic was over. I’ve read it here and also governor desantis has assured me that it’s perfectly normal for 227 people to die from covid in Florida every day. So I’m not sure why there would be a need for more checks from the government.

I highly doubt that there will be more stimulus checks.

Jeppy: Maybe you could find a side gig that was more pleasant than your current job and could eventually replace it.
My current job isn't unpleasant. It is boring which leads me to overeat but there are lots worse problems to have.
I'll see how I feel come winter.

I find that boring can be extremely unpleasant. If you are counting the seconds to retirement, you probably aren't having a very good time.
One good thing about my job is I don't have to wear a mask. Even when a state mandate was in p!ace I only had to wear one in the store and not the office. I would want any second job to also offer me that freedom.
Maybe the local morgue is hiring. Dead people probably won’t care if you’re breathing germs at them.
If you are trying to save for retirement, a second job is an excellent idea! I'd do something like big box retail, where you get a lot of walking in. No sitting down jobs.

Yes, and employers are desperate for employees. Desperate. The job market is crazy with its need for workers.
