This is a picture of the Red Oak tree I revere and protect.

Dado Potato has a few scars. So does the tree. We carry on.

It looks like you could climb up in it if you wanted to.

That is a gorgeous tree. I totally understand how you feel about it. Thanks for sharing.

In the area of Sacramento CA, the suburb of Fair Oaks, the "atmospheric river"/"bomb cyclone" caused one massive oak to split (crushing 3 cars parked nearby). Is there any way to defend an oak tree from torrential rain?

Maybe have an arborist thin out the canopy? I will probably have someone do that to my big old maple tree next year to reduce risk of wind and ice breaks.

What a beautiful tree! We have a huge chestnut that we keep trimmed by the arborist. He is surprised it is still "robust". We have a Norway maple that cracked and he's taking it down as soon as the ground is dry. The Norway maple in the front he said to just leave...he's kept the canopy thinned and said it will be ok for now.

I am looking into hiring a professional tp prune the oak tree this winter. Thanks for the suggestion!
