Was googling something else and saw that today is the Navy's birthday. Thanks to all who served, are serving, will serve and their families!

When I was considering which branch of the military to join, the CO of my university AFROTC detachment said to me:

The Navy navigates by the stars.

The Army sleeps under the stars.

The Air Force chooses hotels by the stars.

It was a moment of clarity for me.

I never heard that before - I like it!

I'm sort of afraid to ask, but the Marine Corps? They ARE the stars?!?!?!?! LOL

Haha!! that's what I was going to say! (DH served as a Marine). Seriously, thanks to all who served under the stars or in 5-star hotels.

They were a separate option under Naval ROTC (I wonder if AFROTC has a Space Force option now), but I do have this:

The different branches use different terminologies, for instance, when ordered to “secure the building”:

The Marines kill everyone inside and set up a CP.

The Army posts a sentry.

The Navy turns out the lights and locks the doors.

The Air Force negotiates a five year lease with an option to buy.

I carried a lot of luggage in defense of my country. Surprisingly, they don’t have a medal for that.
