It looks like this winter will be the second one in a row with La Nina (colder water rising to the surface in the Pacific Ocean).

The outcome for Great Lakes states is expected to be "polar jets" of cold air... picking up lake effect snow, and dropping same during storms with sustained winds of 40 mph. If the polar jets track is farther south, then northern Alabama can look forward to snow.

Propane and natural gas prices (thus home heating costs for lots of people) probably will be higher than in recent years.

Ugh... I really don't want a lot of snow this winter as it means getting up, shoveling myself out, struggling to get to the school and shoveling them out.

That doesn't sound like fun at all!

I think meteorologists have invented excellent names for the storms propelled by polar jets:
Alberta Clipper
Saskatchewan Screamer
Manitoba Mauler

Dado, I love those names...just not the storms!

I hope the good folks who predict the weather are wrong about a La Nina winter. For California that typically means not a lot of rain. And we really really need a good winter after the last few.
