Was just thinking of you, Tammy, and hope that you are doing well.
Also missing you, razz, and hope you are enjoying your break.
There are others who have "stepped-away" from the forums, and I just hope everyone is well.
I still worry about Gardenarian.

Yes, she was on the MMM Forums for awhile, but I don't see her there anymore now either.

I have missed the SLF members and coming here but the break has been a healthy one. I did pop in to check on everyone a couple of times recently and will continue to do that.
It is quite interesting to discover how appreciated these online friends with their diverse viewpoints and activities really are. Just as in real life, it is finding the healthy boundaries for oneself in time, emotion etc.
Thanks for this thread, Happystuff. I share your thoughts about Gardenarian, KayLR

So good you checked-in, razz!!! I'm glad you are doing well. I agree with appreciating the online friends.

20 years last April I have been coming here.
My real life friends now, after many years, understand I have online friends, too.

I know what you mean, IL. I joined my first online discussion group/forum in 1997 and I STILL keep in touch with several of those folks. Even met some IRL. We have been through so much with each other - wonderful friends.

I am meeting up for dinner in my town this week with someone who was on this site years ago.
A meme circulating says about online friends “I know your deepest heartaches and joys, but I’ve Never seen your legs.” Haha.
I came close to meeting razz in person but our Lily Society cancelled its meeting up there in Canada in her area due to Covid. It has not been rescheduled for Canada.

I definitely miss people that have left including Gard.
I like to think UA lurks here from time to time.

Glad to see Razz check in, as well.

Me too. He was good at stiring the pot and stimulating discussion. Though he occationally got carried away with his good intentions.
I just read an old post (doing some research) and saw a post from FloatOn. She hasn't posted in several years either. Hope she is ok.

Yes, she is one I have worried about too. She was a moderator and never said anything about leaving or taking a break, at least not publicly.

I was wondering about her as well.
Glad to see some other folks popping back on!

I was just wondering how long this forum has been around. I was under a different name years and years ago. Yes I think about many members over the years and wonder where/how life turned out.

I've been here a long time too, with a name change. Does anyone know what happened to Jonathan - maybe Jonathan Allen? He was writing a book on frugal city living, I think... I also miss billy barebutt, proponent of county agricultural agents and living san clothing, and sylvan - our banned Canadian liberal. (I think of him every time someone complains that leftist thought is never censured here....) And Stella - I do wonder how she and her family are doing. I do miss posters when they leave.
I always enjoyed commentary from LooseChickens but she has been gone for a long time.

And what happened to Ishbel? I thought about her the other day. And Spartana, and Mrs. Mizerly. There are a lot more, unfortunately that are "gone but not forgotten."

Spartana occasionally posts on the MMM forums.
Whenever I think of old memebers Billy Barebutt comes to mind first.

One of my friends moved to Vermont. He’s a nudist. So I like to think of him running around with that Billy Barebutt up there in Nudeland.

Is that the guy with the unshakable faith in land grant colleges?

hmmm, maybe. I remember Billy Barebutt’s hobby horses as:
* the nudist lifestyle
* bras are bad. Bad I tell you!
* historic standards codified in local laws are completely unnecessary because Vermonters automatically do everything to their historic house in an historically appropriate way
*Christmas tree farms are the most ecologically sound way to produce Christmas trees. Do not buy fake Christmas trees.

Is that the guy with the unshakable faith in land grant colleges?yep that was him. Land grand colleges/county ag agents generally go hand in hand..... The land-grant university system operates the U.S. Cooperative Extension Service (CES) in partnership with federal, state, and local governments. I always wondered if BBB worked for a land grant institution.
I remember that BBB was also adamant about NOT drying clothing in the basement - we had multiple discussions about that. IL, I'd forgotten about the bra thing, lol.
It seems like before Spartana it was SheRa and a guy maybe named Gary who had an online crush on her, but was routinely spurned. I always found a little humor in that, but the details are vague and possibly not correct.
It's strange to think about people here passing away. When any of my friends in real life pass away I hear about it either directly or through Facebook because someone in their immediate family is likely on Facebook as well and will share the sad news. But most of us here don't have family also on here. If I pass away before SO will it occur to him to come here and let everyone know? Although I do tell him stories from here occasionally I doubt he would think to come let you all know. I suppose that it doesn't really matter.

Alan is named in my legacy document along with his email address. I expect him to come here with the sad (?) news of my demise. Thanks in advance, Alan!
I have people named in my legacy document for my life interests such as: one person for plant societies. One person for garden clubs. One person for my current neighborhood. One person for the bulldog world and they take possession of any dogs. My brother would, of course, handle notification to my family members.
When we move to Hermann I’ll have to designate someone my Herman neighbor for a role. We also need to designate someone to notify the condo Board.
My buddies on Reddit are not close enough online friends to plan for, and if I suddenly disappear from those subforums I’m not sure anyone would notice.

I have a document, and I've told my oldest son where it is. In it I have instructions with passwords for all my bank stuff and everything else they might need.
I also have included this forum's web address and asked that one of my kids log in as me and share the news. I've said this before, but I'll say it again: it is amazing to me that I could pass almost all of you on the street and not know who you are, and I don't even know your names, but you've been more valuable and longer-lasting friends than my friends IRL. There has to be a story in that.

What’s that meme I shared recently about online friends? Something like:
We know your deepest desires and your greatest joys. But we’ve never seen your legs.

Perfect.
A legacy document! Hmmm, that is a great idea. I thought that I was well prepared but have not done that.
Tell what are the details that one would include in such a document please? How often would one update it to keep it current?

razz, We had a thread about keeping a legacy file sometime ago. I’ll poke around this website and see if I can find it.

OK razz, I couldn’t find the exact thread where we talked about “legacy document. “Someone else coined that phrase, I didn’t.
But I’m guessing you have all of it, it would be with your will and end of life documents that you keep handy for your daughters. The only thing that you may not have is a list of people to contact in the event of your death, and that’s what we’re talking about here.

I remember shadowmoss had a previous user name and actually first met on another forum over a decade ago - I'm thinking right now. Can't find that other forum, but I learned so much from it and it actually led me to the previous incarnation of this forum.

I know some people don't like Dave Ramsey, but here is where I got the idea of a "legacy drawer"

I think this is the prior conversation we were looking for: http://www.simplelivingforum.net/showthread.php?17027-Organizing-records-for-your-executor
Thanks, Rosa. We should put a big star or more in front of it making it easier to find or bookmark in some way perhaps.
I think some forums have a “greatest hits” section. Not sure who adjudicates greatness, however.
Some folks are writing "ethical wills" now. They have no legal standing, but provide a written evidence of your values, etc. More info here: http://life-legacies.com/ethicalwills/
