So much better!

I will miss my old brick patio so much when we move to Hermann.

I'm so jealous!! I really want a patio. It's on my wish list. A nice flagstone patio, so that we don't have to move the outdoor table every 2 weeks to keep the grass from dying under everyone's feet.

Looks GREAT, happy stuff!

Thanks, everyone! I'm still thrilled and it's all I can do to not run out and just buy a fire pit/chiminea and chairs and tables and etc. LOL. I will wait!

Yes, it's definitely more space and more open. Need a few minor adjustments by the steps/door, but I am sooo happy!

Next up will be pictures of the new decking on both the front porches! I'm loving the look and sound of all this "no maintenance" stuff!

Looks GREAT, happy stuff!

Ask your sons to knock it out one weekend. Easy-peasy.

We will bring a truck full of Victorian era brick to you for that patio when we pick up those twin beds. Haha.

what happened to them anyway?

We wound up bringing all the stuff up here to our new 10x10 storage unit. I kept telling DH that I was fine with putting the Ethan Allen table and the chairs on the curb, and also the frame for the twin bed headboards because the frames would have to be rebuilt anyway, but he did a weird turnaround and became the person who pushed for just bringing everything up and sorting it out later.

I am a bit fearful that someday after we're gone the kids will open up that locker and those things will still be sitting there.

I don't think that will happen; I think someone in the family will be using them again by then. Good choice.

And all the contracted work is done! Here are the front porches with the new decking, new white posts supports and white bottom trim around.

The stone basement and outside foundation has been patched where needed, so a little less drafty down there.

The power-washing of the house will be done in the spring, as the temperatures are now too cold.

We are now ready to settle into a more frugal winter. LOL.

Blue trim on your yellow house…nice! I wouldn’t have thought of that color combo, but it works doesn’t it? And you have an 1800s house!

Yes, we believe somewhere around mid-1800's. Can't seem to get an exact date, but haven't looked too hard.

Edited to add: It's actually blue and grey combo. Mostly grey with the blue on portions of the posts.

Thanks. It's our "starter home" 30 years later. LOL

It looks like my Kenosha home which was my favorite and built in 1920. I love it!!

We are still in our starter home… 30 years later. Tried upscaling in 2008, didn’t even have to selll this house, but every offer we made fell through. The last did not want an attorney. We said no way. Just gave up. Turns out it was a good thing because the market crashed shortly thereafter.

I've come to the conclusion that making your first house your last is a sound and satisfying plan.

We are also still living in our starter home 36 years later, although I had always thought we would be here for the long haul. It's only in recent years that I've started wondering if that's the best thing to do.
I love your house, Happy, and I'm especially smitten with your porch!

Thanks, everyone. I'm happy with how it turned out.

Yes, lots of room - more than we really need, so I'm still on the idea of down-sizing within the next 2 years or so.

How big is your house?

How big is your house?

You will laugh, but I don't know the square footage. Big living room and dining room (not used as a dining room), three bedrooms, two full baths, decent size kitchen, family room, full attic and basement under main house. When we bought it, that little porch to the side was to a one bedroom apartment, but we have since broken through.

I won’t laugh because I don’t know the sq ft of my Kenosha house either. That has a 2 room apartment we made and the attic is remodeled for living space. I looked on Zillow years ago and it didn’t say.

Teacher Terry
12-10-21, 3:44pm
So I went on Zillow and it said that the house is 1782 sq ft. So what we lived in minus the very small 2 room apartment which I am guessing was 300 sq ft. The house was on 3 levels plus a basement for storage and laundry. We felt like it was huge after living in apartments. You can still probably find yours on Zillow.

Zillow says our house is 770 SF, so that never got updated with the 170 SF addition we put on in the early nineties. But there is no denying that our house is small.

happystuff
12-11-21, 11:31am
According to Zillow the house is 2016 sf. I had a feeling it was close to, if not over 2000.

Edited to add: Too big for me at this point in my life. :)

When one thinks about it, it is amazing how much information today's technology has made available. Your checking with Zillow struck me as one of those moments. Nowadays we just take it for granted.

True. Sometimes, however, I actually find it somewhat frightening.

I assume Zillow takes their measurements from your county assessor’s records. The Zillow measurement also was not true for our house because we added two story addition 30+ years ago. The addition was fully permitted and is on city records, but they don’t catch that additional square footage.
