Beautiful horse. I enlarged the image to see the beautiful markings. So now, what is the rest of the story of this lovely animal - breed, history, age, experiences etc. Can you tell that I have never lost my love of horses? I have thought until now that an Appaloosa had only brown markings so I need to be educated:)

Tybee will enjoy this thread as well.

I am care leasing him . His registered name is Signed By Wrangler. He’s a retired reining horse . He has multiple Appaloosa World Championship titles. He is a out of a direct daughter of the Appaloosa Hall of Fame Sir Wrangler ( whose likeness was made into a Breyer horse) I have been using him as a trail horse along with my other Appaloosa Socks
Zazz’s markings are what are called leopard.

I used to use my allowance every week to ride horses. Then the guy that owned the stables said we could ride for free if we cleaned the stables. I still have a be bee in my stomach from when his bratty son shot me.

Here is a video of Zazz in his younger days as a reining horse. This was at the Appaloosa World Show in Fort Worth Tx.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reining I had to look up the sport of reining to fully appreciate Zazz"s experience so sharing the interesting and informative link. I had heard of 'reining' but not as a separate discipline.
Boss mare, would you feel comfortable telling your start and interest in reining?

When I was about 7, my uncle who was 4 years my senior shot me between the eyes with a BB gun. It wasn't necessary to get police involved since my grandmother was all over the case. She made him bring her a switch which she used to tan his bottom.

Ouch! At close range? That's way to close to being an easy eye shot - either side.

I love to watch the sport. I did post a video of Zazz in a class. The person riding him is the trainer not the owner ( who is my friend and does reining too )

My back ground was lower level hunter/ jumper. Until one day I got a huge panic attack during a lesson . No reason b hind it. I hadn’t fallen off, my horse didn’t refuse the jump. It wasn’t a big jump either ( 2’ 6”). I went back to very small ones ( called cross rails) still was having anxiety. I quit jumping and rode in flat classes . I had an Appaloosa at the time. I was at an “ open show” ( meaning open to all kinds of breeds and classes ) when I was approached by an Appaloosa trainer who said that my horse would excel at the Appaloosa breed shows. So from there I started riding in other classes.
My true love is hunt seat equitation ( on the flat) , western horsemanship, showmanship and trail. The first three classes are judged on the rider and the ability to perform the pattern without a lot of visible cues and to complete the pattern. Trail is basically an obstacle course and the goal is to make that look effortless too, but your body position is not part of the score. Here is a video of both western horsemanship and huntseat equitation of me and Chippy in 2009 at the Appaloosa World Show. We earned a Reserve World Championship in the western and a 3rd place in the huntseat

OMG! Speaking as a mother - WHAT WERE YOU TWO THINKING!?!?!? Or you weren't! You have some wonderful guardian angels! (Yes, plural as an incident like that would take more than one!)

boss mare - thank you so much for your posts. I am learning so much about horses, riders, competitions, technique, etc. While I may never have any practical application, I find it all very interesting.

I think it's safe to say that we weren't. Our only excuses were that I was 7 and he was a bit of a jerk. ;)

Love watching the horse and rider in sync. Thank you.
Our local fair has a good rating for its horse show but of course that has been cancelled for two years now. When it starts up again, I will pay more attention to the other classes as I focused on watching the jumping competitions. Attended the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto to watch the jumping classes some years back.

Alan, that was a close call with the BB gun. I don’t remember if I even told anyone that he shot me. About 10 years ago when I was X-rayed the technician asked if I knew I had a Bb in my stomach. I had long forgotten about it.

OMG boss mare, what a marvelous horse he is! That reining pattern looked perfect - I've never seen a horse pivot on a hind leg as well as that. He is a breathtaking animal.... I am SO jealous, lol.

I did some trail-riding with my appy back in the day - he loved the trail, especially water. Once in the water, he would splash his hooves and soak everyone close - and if I wasn't quick enough to tell him not too, he'd drop, wait for me to dismount, and roll in the water, saddle and all. I was often the "invited entertainment" on creek/river rides. I was small, and in my tweens, and he was BIG - almost 16 hands. The other riders always liked to watch me try to convince him NOT to roll.... sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. but it was much fun, either way!!

I really appreciate your horse postings - they always take me back to a happy, more carefree time in my life.
