Today when doing the cash box in the morning I saw one customer had paid with a $20 bill that was stamped "F*** JOE BIDEN" without the asterisks.

The effort that goes into ordering a stamp and using it - it would be hard for me to feel that level of venom for a politician.

It’s hard for me to see ginning up a really good hatred around a blustering poltroon like Biden. It’s equally hard for me to understand the I-hate-Trump-and-I-hate-people-who-don’t-hate-Trump bile that fills so much of the mind space of out country.

People blame “divisiveness”, but I think unity is oversold as a virtue. Dictators talk a lot about unity. I like a country with a lot of differing ideas flying around. We’ve always been pretty far from political unity. The last time a presidential candidate got more than sixty percent of the popular vote was when Nixon crushed McGovern half a century ago.

I blame much of our present hysterical hatred on the fact that one major party has been hijacked by a personality cult and the other has been hijacked by an ideological cult. Both of those hijackings I blame on the system of open primaries that came into use in the seventies. That system seems to favor the views of extremists, zealots and fanatics at both ends of the spectrum. “The best lack all conviction and the worst are full of passionate intensity”.

I just finished up "The Storm Before the Storm: The Beginning of the End of the Roman Republic" (*) by Mike Duncan, and today's events are tame and childish by comparison.

(*) Worthwhile

Yes. Being called names by Twitter trolls hardly compares to being proscribed by Sulla.

It's entirely possible that the spender of the 'i hate biden' money doesn't actually hate biden but was just some random person who received the defiled money during a transaction. If I had received it I might not even have noticed. I don't tend to look closely at bills I receive. Our money is distinct enough that just a casual glance at it is enough for me to trust it's validity. And even if I had I'm not going to then stuff it away, I'm going to go ahead and spend it back into the economy.

In my County, someone bought a billboard and puts up anti-Biden billboards. People have complained but because it's on private land, nothing can be done about it. I always look forward to the next billboard. There is also a Let's Go Brandon sign that recently popped up along the main road. There are also "Biden Did This" stickers that pop up on gas pumps from time to time. The real problem with Biden is that if he dies, we will get Kamala in charge. No matter how bad you think Biden is, she'd be worse. But on the other side, I really hope Trump doesn't run again. He just can't control his mouth so people won't vote for him because of that. I know people who said they think Biden would make a terrible President but they voted for him because of Trump's mouth. No matter who ran against him, I'm afraid would win just because of the "anyone but Trump" mentality. I hope the Republicans put forth a quality candidate. Heck, the Democrats could put forth a few people and it wouldn't be a horrible thing.

Hate is more self-owned emotion which tends to negatively impact the hater more than the person to which the hate is being directed. How many times have you (generic you) hated someone, yet they have no idea the hate even exists!

Edited to add: And even if the hate is known, it is still a usually negative reflection of the hater - at least, in my opinion.

I may be a Democrat. And I'm grateful that DJT was not reelected. That all said - I find myself wishing a Democrat other than Joe Biden had been elected. I find Joe Biden a bit similar to Gerald Ford in the sense of being stumbling and bumbling. I believe it was IL here who some time ago posted that Joe Biden is a lackluster politician and this I completely agree with.

But at least there's been no 3 AM twittering and Joe Biden knows how to behave with foreign heads of state. And I know that Kamala Harris has a questionable past as a prosecutor in California - but at least a woman FINALLY has made it through the glass ceiling to be first in line should anything happen to Biden.

So there is a some good here and I don't miss DJT one iota. And my family in Austria is less worried for me living in the United States now that Trump has been kicked to the curb - but I am thinking DJT will run again. Conservatives please get it together and run someone else instead. Please. For all our sakes. Rob

And does anyone know how "Let's go Brandon" became code for (expletive) Joe Biden? I don't see an obvious connection.
