For the past ten days, I have been sleeping in a chair in a hospital room next to a sick kid. It being too dark to read, I have been spending an unusual amount of time on my phone (podcasts, Netflix, etc). I found a collection of all the Wordle games published to date, and have been working myself through them.

Has anyone hit upon a particularly useful strategy?

I don't know if it's particularly useful, but I try to enter a couple of words at the beginning that contain all the vowels, and work from there.

I usually start with “ready” and “ought” to try including most of the vowels and some common consonants.

For some reason, I seem to have the most trouble with words including “k”.

Knife is a good one.

Hope kid doing better.

Once the answer was knoll, but if you use that, you are wasting a letter.

Glad that Wordle is helping pass the time. I have not found any particular trick beyond getting the vowels as has been mentioned. I usually start with 'earth'. Atlantic magazine had an article explaining all the possibilities in words in 5 letters of the alphabet available in total, the expert approach and more. I found it a hilarious article and fun to read about such a fun frivolous activity. I confess I play it often. Seems as though each time I play I access a different portal so have no history of successes at any site.
Hoping that all will be well soon.

alone … has 3 vowels so IMO is a good word to start.

Hope the kid will be ok!

Our immediate family is completely addicted to wordle - great fun each day.

Jimmy Fallon started with arise, and that seems a good starter word.

I am also addicted!

Arose is also supposed to be a good one to start with as well.

Hope the child will be okay!!

Ten days! I hope the situation resolves soon!

Kindles are backlit. I hear the new 6.8" one is the best yet.

I got nothing about Wordell. I played at once and it was okay.

Wouldn’t you know it; my Kindle blew out on the second day.

Thanks for all the good wishes about the kid. We’re hoping it will only be a few more days before he can come home. I won’t miss sleeping in chairs, I can tell you that.

“Arise” has been working out pretty well, but I may take some time away to focus on the “Tides of History” podcast.

New starter word for me is "adieu".

How is that working for you as Dr Phil would say. I find that using 'earth' usually gives me 4 tries before the word becomes clear.

New starter word for me is "adieu".

I've been using that! I usually follow it up with "irony."
That way, all the vowels are covered. Then begins the deductive reasoning.

Well, it gives me the status of four of the five vowels on the first word. It's the words with double letters that often throw me. lol.

Have been playing off and on all day. 34 wins - 7 losses on Wordle Unlimited.

I really hate to think I'm getting addicted to this game!!! :help:

The unlimited version is tempting. I give myself one game to play a day as a reward after getting something done that needs doing like vacuuming or bookkeeping etc. That keeps me motivated in day to day activities and satisfied that I have earned the game. Funny form of self-motivation but it works for me.

I tried it one time and started with the word "ratio." Won in 3 tries. Mic drop. Not getting roped into one more game; I do three already and don't want to spend any more time on my phone than I already do.

OK, I just tried it. I've been avoiding it since it came out but I had to see what all the fuss is about. Since there's only one puzzle a day and I blew today's big time, I'm a little discouraged. Plus this is essentially an anagram puzzle and anagrams is my worst category in Jeopardy. But I'll see how I like it tomorrow.

OK, I purposely searched for the unlimited version yesterday just to try it out. I'm now 34 games in with 28 games won, 5 after three guesses, 10 after four guesses, 9 after five guesses and 4 after six guesses.

Part of me wishes I'd never seen this thread and another part can't wait to play just a few more games again. This game is quickly and thoroughly addictive!

Sometimes I surprise myself with it--like the time I had the last four letters of a word with three tries left, and lost. Or the time I had one letter on the board with four tries left: and won on the next try. I also like AARP's Wordspell, which is basically Scrabble solitaire.

Careful. That’s how you get sucked in.

I was just going to say that. :)

I like that it has elements of skill, luck, and deductive reasoning--the latter of which requires me to gather my usually scattered "little gray cells," as Hercule Poirot would say.

My problem is that it is a quick little game and I always say "just one more" and an hour or two has slipped away before I realize!

That's why they were sensibly allocating people one wordle a day, but no, people got greedy, more wordles and wordle-like things, more more more ... :laff: This is why we can't have nice things.

My daughter turned me onto another Wordle variant called Quordle (https://www.quordle.com), where you get 9 attempts to solve 4 different words. After just 3 daily puzzles, it has become my favorite.

One wordle a day is perfect. I only play on week days. I work for a couple hours and then take a break to make coffee in my french press. While it's steeping I play the day's wordle and then go get a cup of coffee and get back to work. Since it's on my work computer I can't share it to facebook or anywhere so it's truly just a thing for me. I've taken all six tries a few times but I've never not solved it. (knock on wood...)

I've continued playing daily for the past 148 days, it's become a part of my daily morning routine. Disappointed this morning that for the first time in 82 days I failed to win, I guess I'll have to begin a new streak tomorrow.

Those are the most frustrating wordles. I've lost a few times in that situation. Now that we're past the point of anyone else having that wordle, I'm curious what it was?
