For groceries - especially meat and soon wheat based foods. Given that humans do need to eat regardless of economic conditions - what are your go-to meals to keep grocery costs down?

Mine are beans, rice, and some kind of veggie that's on sale. I see myself eating more like this in the future - I fess up to upgrading my meals since getting out of food and beverage. It was nice but.....things have changed the past two years. Rob

Beans, rice and a rediscovery of cabbage.

Just wondering if this thread might be better in Food & Recipes> Just wondering.

Yesterday I bought lots of fresh produce. Yes, it's expensive, but everything's expensive now, and it seems like it's gone up less because you can't hoard it as easily.

I like to keep my meat eating at a minimum. For instance, I made a big pot of lentil soup yesterday that had just 3 small sausages in it for flavor and fat. DH loves it.

So if meat becomes prohibitive, we'll just have more non-meat dishes, or dishes in which meat isn't the main ingredient.

Some version of rice, beans, and tortillas are in my rotation and I think are pleasing without meat, although a little cheese can be good. Pizza is a good use for some vegetables and easy for me to appreciate without meats. I make my own crusts, which is a pretty easy task.

We went to Costco to find that the chicken we usually buy has doubled in price. The salmon was up too. I won't change much in what we eat because it is already pretty simple. We don't eat much in the way of the carby stuff other than quinoa. Thankful we will have a huge garden to draw from. I can live on veggies and salad with a grilled something all summer/fall long.

I'm doing nothing. If a product is overpriced, I just won't buy it. In time, I'll probably be shopping at Grocery Outlet again, and their prices are generally reasonable. I have non-perishables in reserve. Eating once a day is another tactic.

I really only eat one meal a day so will keep buying what I like. I eat a granola bar for breakfast (generic) and a snack at 5.

This is my approach as well.

I have reasonable sources of local meat and produce to rely upon to assist in the project. I haven't purchased meat from the grocery store for years now. I already put up a lot of preserves every year, I can easily up the scale of that operation.
