Here I am having second thoughts about driving to Springfield to drop off some lockered beef to someone I know there so his cats would get some of the beef ( they do need meat you know, they’re not vegetarian) but now I’m afraid to do that.

Okay----The smalllish, quasi-city you are referring to IS becoming a drug-and-crime-infested hell-hole! Yup. Even though there is a church on every corner, with more enormous churches under construction, satan is doing a land-office business, there. Yup. They say that there was over 20 homicides and about 60 fatal overdoses in the city, last year! Convertor thievery is a major enterprise, there. So, yeah---I'd be REAL cautious about visiting that particular place. The only thing you really should do is pass through, nonstop, on your way elsewhere. Hope that helps you kids some. 4655

Iris Lilies, you lived in St. Louis and I live in Indianapolis. I would not worry about daytime travel to Springfield. It is all about when and where you go in any city and being aware. Our murders seem to be overwhelmingly very late at night.

I think the statistics are going up all over. We have one city street that should be called Murder Row and gentrification is causing all kinds of issues.

Springfield MO is not very nice. Springfield, IL is a cool place. Lots and lots of historic buildings and many places to visit about ?Abraham Lincoln. The Lincoln museum and the Lincoln Home (separate attractions) are very nice. I was especially charmed by the first Illinois state capital there. I go there most years for their state fair.

Okay---if you are an I-wah Drive-N-Eat fanatic, here's the equivalent of 7-11 Missippissi, in Thor, Iowa. Yup. It's an old masonry building, but they recently capped 'er with farmer tin, to keep it looking tidy. Yup. It's VERY popular, with the D-N-E's, up there in the midddle o' nowhere. I've read countless reviews that say the food is "ahhh-summm and a-may-zeen". Edited to add: another Yup.4662

I have no idea what that trip cost since it was years ago. But I will tell you that our locker beef escapade of last week came down to $4 a pound which is pretty spectacular. I did not realize that these beef purchases were cheaper than the crap you get in the stores. I know they’re certainly a better quality product, but since my father-in-law used to donate beef and pork and we only paid locker fees, I didn’t really know how much it would shake out to be if we had to pay for the actual beef cow.

Okay---I just noticed this thread hadn't achieved any participation, lately. Ha. But yeah---Springfield, Missouri is still here, with the ever-increasing number of violent crimes. But, you know what? I've been following the local Mugshots feed on Facebook and also following a "Scanner Chatter" Facebook feed, and well, yeah---the citizens on the northern 1/2 of the city are committing THE largest amount of crime, resulting in arrests. But see--center of town, you have a student population of 20,000, and they go demmmacrat in every election. BUT: I don't see but very little(reported) crime committed by students! They're in that crime-prone age range. So, are SMS students angels, or are news reports and arrests kept to a minimum? See--that notion was put in my head while following Scanner Chatter. But yeah---Are the 900lb Gorillas in the room(MSU, Drury,etal, and its' minions are given the soft, low-profile coverage in the local media? Just curious. See--Schools are tax-and-tuition supported businesses, and they don't want their image or goodwill to be harmed. See? Stop me if you've already heard the theory. Hope that helps you some.

Okay----I've joined several new f-book groups. All of them pertain to Crime-filled Springfield Zurra. One is called: Scanner Chatter 417. It follows police & fire calls and also first-hand accounts by passersby of various emergency situations. . Another is called: WTF Springfield. It shows some of the colorful public behaviors of the locals---homeless, tweakers, mentally disturbed, and of course---walmart shoppers. Then, followwed by snarky, tactless and sometimes humorous comments. Yup. But, you've got to be careful what you say, as some of the comments might get back to a detainee, and they have been known to threaten commenters, after they are released from tthe booby hatch or wherever. Then, there's 417 Lost and Stolen, which features footage from security cams of porch pirates and trespassers, and missing vehicles, etc. So yeah---Springfield has its' own reality shows to sit-n-watch. Yup.

Oh yeah---I forgot to mention that I also follow "Busted Newspaper" which is a news feed of booking photos of local arrestees, as they happern. You can also go to the sheriffs' website, and look at the inmate population part, and see if they are still in jail. One former co-worker has been in jail for nearly a year. He's a tweaker, who shot a highway patrolman, causing the officer to lose an eye. So, he'll be locked up for awhile. Recently, two wimmin were arrested in separate incidents; a facebook friend & her daughter. Yup. But, that's S-field. BTW, want a career? The local jail is still looking to hire staff at the lockup. Pays about $20/hr. So yeah, there's that. Thank Mee.

Okay---as the OP says--crime runs rampant, here. I've got a couple photos taken by a motorist at Notorious Corner, recently. Not only is traffic murder,here-- but stealing, robbing, killing, drug abuse, and every other thing you can imagine! The Kops are always busy! Okay, in the photo, the Kop car(I assume being driven by Det. Starsky) is responding to a "shots fired" call at the high school near me. Yup. It was a prank, I guess. Ha. Very funny, kids. Okay---at Notorious Corner, there's a Bank. Before that building was there, there was another Bank, same company. . But, they tore 'er down, to build a nice NEW one. You know how banks are---BIG on Progress. Before that, wayyyy back in the old days---there was a gas station, as it was then on Rte 66. See photos. But yeah---last spring the bank was robbed by a frequent-flyer o' the justice system. He was even wearing one a those "ankle monitors", at the time. Okay---Yeah, the OP was totally spot-on, about what totally crime-ridden and totalitarian hellhole this place is. There's so much crime and as a result--cops, whio treat everyone as a possible suspect. Being a Semi-Big City, where the insular affluent run things, everything is illegal but enforcement is highly selective. I subscribe to all the f-book sfield-relevant accounts, and yeah---it's pretty bad. Place may get high marks for being cheap, but do you ever get your money's worth? Not here. I really figure the cop is maybe overzealous. She shoulda been a catch-n-release. Her "crime" is most likely not one of criminal intent, but purely a lack of money. S-field is a bad place to be a non-motorist, which is why she still drives albeit illegally. To live as a low-income person & not fall into the traps she has, it requires canny resourcefulness; probavbly a quality she also lacks.

I guess a more permanent memorial has since been built, plus seddelmints paid out, mostly by the deep pockets. A-B voluntarily kicked in 5 million, which helped a great deal in making boat payments for the greedy lawyer scum. But yeah---Great White is still touring; one of my case studies recently attended a concert of theirs in Sioux Chitty, Iwah, nowhere USA. One of their songs is ironically: "Once bitten, twice shy". Okay---Traffic is Murder, here. It is unwise to drive, especially after dark. But yeah---late, late last night---on the same highway that killed the reporter several weeks ago, a driver who allegedly had too much sauce was headed the wrong way, and crashed into an oncoming van, killing the three occupants. The alleged drunk driver survived the crash, and will probably live long enough to run up a major bill for medical expenses, and possibly an encounter with the so-called justice system, that will cost plenty. Domestic assault is everywhere, even in enlightened New England. A Cohasset man was recently arrest for the murder of his wife, which is horrible enough, but he was also stupid beyond belief. He had searched online about ways to dispose of a body, said he last saw her on 1/1, although her phone could be tied to their home location on 1/2, and he went to Home Depot to buy $450 in cleaning supplies shortly after her disappearance.

But yeah---he had strangled her, early in the morning, called the police & his inlaws, and hired the high-profile "defense" attorney here(who doesn't get people acquitted, btw), and he is now serving life w/no parole. The couple was employed by one o' the churches headquartered, here, btw. So anyway---my guestimate, baswed on following the local mugshots news feed, is that about 3 out of 4 arrestees for DomAss(as I call it) are male. Which still leaves a substantial number of Ladies being charged with the crime, because it really is a common occurrence. Yup.

I heard ( or thought I heard) on a podcast that more women than men assault their spouse. Finding that more than a little hard to believe, I did some quick Googling, results below. While the results are not “more women start it” the percentages are higher than conventional wisdom. Of course the real problem is that men are stronger and do damage that women do not.

5136Okay----this is todays' news: A guy here who axxed an associate to help him move, got a life sentence for Murder One. See--the perp "forgot" to return a U-Haul, so it was reported stolen. Then, when the po-leese attempted to stop the stolen u-haul when it was spotted, things escalated. The suspect fled in the U-haul van, and got out on the highway and ten miles out, lost control of the van and totaled it, and was taken into custody. Then, subsequently sent back to prison, for a parole violation. So okasy--it seems that an employee of the wrecker service notified police that there was an AWFUL lot of blood in the cargo area of the van, and a bag of personal effects. The blood turned out to be that of a missing person--the associate.. See? But yeah--crime central. These were White boys, too. Reminds me of a case from last year, where a guy went berserk and attacked two co-workers with a hammer at what is locally known as ther old truck stop on rte 66. But yeah--the hammer victims went to the hospital and one of them died. Meanwhile the attacker killed himself, out at the truck stop. Anyway--he had been arrested the year before for DomAss(see photo). It looks like he had taken a beating, as well. As one o' the waitresses at the old truck stop restaurant said on Tee-Vee--"What's going on with Springfield, these days?" But yeah---it's ALWAYS been like this. Yup. I am a model cityizen, compared to Those People. Yup Thankk Mee.

I HAVE however done a readup on the mother-daughter crime team--the Staudte's--- who poisoned the Dad, brother, etc., and got life. That's been several years back. But yeah---we've had several dom-ass standoffs on the northside. Folks---Do NOT call the po-leese to come and resolve your personal issues! Doi NOT at any time display a firearm, i.e. "Prollem-Solver". Not sure where those people get the idea that doing either will advance their cause. Now one excpten: if you have reason to believe the other party has called the po-lees, it might help to also call them. Then try and give a plausible but conflicting story. Okay---made a run back to the deep-discount warehouse grocery(not the freight salvage place), just after 7, in order to take advantage of the super low price on Tuna & mac-n-cheese. Well, as I was at the cash register, the security guard ran out into the lot after a suspek, and came back holding two large cuts of meat. Wrapped, of course. But yeah---I predicted that they weren't stealing a loaf o' bread. Same thing happened at Aldis, recently. But you know what? See---this type of wreck happens many times every year; The forecast is for nice weather during a winter day, so Mr Murdercyclist says: "Why not ride to work, Monday?" But, his widow is well taken carwe of--she got what was left of a 5 million seddelmint, after the loyyers got their chunk. On pleasant weekends, late at night, you can hear the crotch rockets screaming into the early morning hours, putting people who actually have a legitimate reason to drive somewhere late, at risk of being sued by a risk-taker. See---there is a lifestyles magazine that started up here prolly 25 years ago, using the area code as the name of the publication, which is slick and thick. Anyway---it focuses on consumption by locals who want to pretend they are classy, based upon how much they spend on boutique restaurants and weddings, graduations & masquerade parties & soshy stuff like that. Plus, it profiles so-called entrepreneurs who startup businesses providing consumeristic goods and services, like brew pubs, nightclubs, restaurants and bakeries & caterers. See? But yeah--one of my case studies lives the 417 magazine lifestyle. They visit restaurants regularly, and go shopping just for something to "do", and they just returned from a tourist vacation in a whole other country(3rd world), where they sat on planes and in airports for hours, and after arrival, got sick. But yeah--they spent a lot of money for nothing, and they want everyone to know it. They traded their Accura for a big 'Cedes SUV. Mission Accomplished! Ha. There used to be another local magazine named after the city that was very good and well-written, which I guess is not in fashion, any more. So, it's defunct. If I find old copies at thrift stores, yard sales, etc., I buy 'em, as there is a lot of history within them. YES that useless sack of bones who is the City of St. Louis’s prosecutor should resign or be voted out of office. YES her MANY actions of incompetence and lying should be recognized by the voters. Too bad the court that brought her up for review had the power to remove her from office by removing her law license but chose a slap on the wrists instead. A missed opportunity.

But in the end, I think the citizens of St. louis deserve to live with their choice. National and state legal resources are now heading to St. louis to deal with the lack there. Is that right?

Do ya’ll want your tax dollars going to the black hole that is the St. Louis Prosecutor’s office where no one gets prosecuted? For the record, let me say that there WAS leadership in that office for many years under a (gasp) woman, Jennifer Joyce, so it IS possible to right this ship. She was respected. But she did not pander to the criminal element who now run freely in St. louis in the knowledge nothing will happen to them.This is the stated policy of our city’s prosecutor, equity and fairness. We had a family of four bulldogs from your neck of the woods turned into rescue a few years ago. I’m pretty sure they were from the Springfield area pound. Their story was their owners let this pack run. The pack was made up of mom, dad, daughter, son.

After they’ve been picked up for the third time and hauled into county? Or city? shelter, the shelter director decided enough is enough and turned them into rescue, mainly because both males had skin problems that were getting worse each time they turned up.

I fostered the daughter and son, picture to follow. if you think the guy on the right looks dumb, I can tell you that yes he was not very bright. He was a sweet puppy, but his sister had all the brains I thought about keeping him because he got along pretty well with my big old dog, but we found a very nice home for him.

Well, today I traveled downtown to do some minor stuff, and my return route took me past a place one o' my current f-book friends lived in 32 years ago, then past an old building where a 15-year old girl was murdered 41 years ago, and past a house where the parents of a guy who was executed in the Zurra Gas Chair used to live, and then past a corner where two new cracker-box homes are being built. The lot was formerly occupied by a large old house that burned, and the couple who lived there were trapped in the stairwell and died. Then, up to the corner where the kid took out a utility pole last fall & a loony person robbed the bank on the corner./ Lotta history, along in there, abnnd I prolly don't know even a fraction of it. But yeah---this is the city of very rampant crime and stigmatized properties.

Okay---This involves sum exurban po' folks from east of here. They were out for an evening of 417 Eat, Drink, & be Merry, plus Meth. Well, everything was going well---until they encountered a Barney. But yeah---the result was, their minivan was tipped over by Ol' Barn, the van had a broken window, and the driver---in fear of his life---tried to defend himself. So anyway---a whole Army of Po-po's opened fire,(50 rounds) and executed the driver and his GF, on the spot. see photo. Black spots on van are bullet holes. Okay----Update: Last night, a guy walked inta the Caseys about a 1/2 mile from here, and announced he'd been shot, and collapsed. He'd been at a residence over by my old place, got shot, then drove to the gas station. But, it turns out he's gonna live, and the shooter is in custody. So anyway---;'Nother thing: A womans dead body was found in a creek not too awful far from that other shooting. I did not know the creek ran toward that intersection in an old area of town, but evidently it does. That's all, for now. I hesitate to venture off the property. Crime runs rampant, here. Okay----One o' my F-book friends has been in our nice, new detention center for a couple months, now. I guess she was homeless during the winter, and her family has given up on her, due to her lengthty criminal history, mostly related to "substance" abuse. But yeah---she had a court hearing, and I expected to see her being released onto the streets, again. But nooo---the judge extended her stay until another hearing at the end o' june. Yup. So, no need to worry about her. She'll be fine. Prolly one viable solution to homelessness and criminal behavior linked to drug abuse, which seems to be getting even worse, would be to repurpose old commercial buildings as homeless detention centers, to keep them off drugs and safe and sound. They frequently get hit by cars late at night, around here. But yeah---two things---public policy would have to change, in order to justify incarceration for homelessness. The libtards would all of a sudden flip-flop on the issue of personal lifestyle choices. Yup. Plus---The Karens would be screaming bloody murder: N.I.M.B.Y.!!!! Then, the building would have to have investment in design, to keep everyone safe and secure. But, it could be done. Then----feed 'em baloney sammiches w/sliced gummint cheese, every day. Okay----This guy(see photo) has been locked-up for nearly 7 years, awaiting trial, which happened this week, before a judge. No jury. What the deal is, he was an instructor of some useless subject at the state U, and he did a home-invasion of some other Perfesser emeritus of a useless subject, and stabbed him to death. Made a hell of a mess, right in front of his wife. He was waiting outside when the po-lice arrived. Part of the time he's been locked up has been at a facility for mental evaluation, i.e. convincing the "shrinks" you're crazy. But yeah---I've seen cuckoos nest, so I'm Tee-Vee educated. Anyway---he managed to pull off a Hinkley, so I reckon he'll be out in a few years. Or less. But yeah---good reason to lock your doors.5496

Last year a plump middle-aged gal who'd worked in health care got life-without-parole here for getting road rage at the most dreaded intersection in town, and bumping some other old gals gals' car, and when the old gal got out to look at the damage, the first gal ran over her and then dragged her a ways under her car. Other motorists managed to block her from leaving. But yeah---you just know the road rager is a bit of a nut anyhow; so why didn't she get the same treatment as the college guy? I predicted that he would get a much better deal, due to his U connection. Plus, prolly a better-connected loyyer. See? Ain't that how it works?

Okay----Stalkers. Seems like they are everywhere. I know you kids have complained about being stalked, and though I haven't been the unfortunate victim of a stalker, I realize that they are out there. Even here. Some of them can seem to be respected members of the community. One was on the city council, taught classes at the U, etc. Well--she got the idea her DH(an OB Gyn) was playing around with a FEM colleague at the office, and instead of just let it run its course, jumped into revenge mode and commenced to stalk and harass the alleged mistress! This made the news & I spose it was pretty embarrassing. Ha. Okay---more recently, there was this: A local financial advisor(which everyone knows is a sales job and a racket), was arrested on Federal stalking charges, on account of harassing her daughters' former BF. okay----one a our fine upstanding membahs o the community was on his way to a protess rally or something on a major thoroughfare here, and made an innocent mistake---he collided with a little hyundai and pushed it inta a 18-wheeler, killing the hyundai driver and the truck driver. well, last week he plead guilty; as everyone knows, there's no way out when you're bein' ray-roaded. okay-----everything here in this part o' zurra is perfectly ab-normal. but yeah-----down at a shopping center on the citty's south side, there's an upscale grocery that specializes in deluxe MEAT for people who can afford it. the founder of that store dropped dead some 30 years ago of a heart attackt at like 50 years old. so anyway----next door to that upscale grocery is a locally-owned "compounding pharmacy", and 'cordin' to news from an independent news reporter who specializes in reporting on-the-scene of car wrecks, robberies, killings, (which you kids know is the stuff i like) well anyway---a guy described as in his 40's went into this pharmacy, attempted to rob the pharmacist at gunpoing of some particular drug. well----the police arrived in time to foil the robbery, but the robber used his own gun to off himself, rather than be arrested, right in the store. Ha. how do you like that? you gotta admit he saved the gummint a lot o' money to just get it over with, like he did. yup. but yeah----they've got it all goin' on right here. yup.

But yeah---the guy on the minibike was killed, and the car driver was arrested for impainred driving. so anyway---that is why is makes no sense to take risks like that; you might end up dead or in jail or both. okay-----i guess earlier this afternoon there was an incident just a few blocks from me where an elderly couple had their vehicle carjacked by an obama/harris-American Wummun, age 40. but yeah---the po-leese tracked her down and found the carjacked car and two leeetle keeeeds that had also been reported missing, nearby. welp, i am not a sociologist or a licensed psychologist, either. but, one thing that has happened is an upsurge in crime right along with an upsurge in the non-hillbilly-American content of the population. but i am not sure if there is a correlation, or not. all i know is that keep your doors locked, and take the keys out of your vehicle and maybe(probasbly) you should carry a firearm, around here. just in case. yup.

okay----up here in the ghetto, where i live, we have had MUCH excitement. okay----there are prowlers prowling the 'hood, and getting into mischief. i went outside at about 3 A.M., the other nite, and there was a sherriffs deputy sitting out front. he told mee they'd gotten two "shots fired" calls, did i hear anything? i said no, i usually sleep very soundly, but my motion detector was sounding off. also, last night, not far from here, a guy from des moynes, iwah, tried to strangle his father, on account of being a schizo & dopehead. the po-lice were called, and afterward, the dad died of a sudden cardio episode, due to evidently to the prior assault. now, the son from DM is taking up space in our nice, new jail. oh, well. another homicide on the books. i, am locking my doors & keeping a watch out for suspicious activity & persons. one scuzzy springfieldian was snooping around the vacant home of the neighbor that passed a month or two ago. criminals have more rights & benefits than law abiding citizens, ya know? a good reason not to vote for demmmacratic candy-dates. yup.

okay---I've been waaay too busy to keep you kids updated on a play-by-play of crime in Zurras' Third-largest citty, but believe me----crime is running rampant. After I got home from the cruise, in which hot-rodders in jacked-up junkers repave the streets with rubber and tire smoke is like a fog, the po-leese sent in a contingent of cop cars, with cop tires and cop suspension and cop motors, capable of speeds in excess of 125 mph, and essentially cleared the streets of cruisers cruising and making LOUD noises. After all---the church people have GOT to get some sleep so they can get up early & praise the Lord at Church in their nice, clean, safe, quiet, new consumermobiles. You don't see any jacked-up or lowered-down cruiser vehicles in the church parkin' lots on Sundy Mornin', that's for sure! Nope. So anyway----the cruisers all went home, but a couple hours later, there were multiple shootings downtown, and three people were transported to the hospital, and one pronounced daid. No other details, at this moment. But yeah---the drunken driver who plowed into a car in his pickup at high-speed killing a family of 3 was sentenced to 30 years in prison, recently. Ha. We'll see how long he's locked up.

Having to spend time in a crime ridden sprawl land where every major arterial road looks exactly the same, I stopped by a stigmatized property because I was bored and on that side of town. From this house three women disappeared decades ago, and were never found.
