View Full Version : Updated covid vaccine
Who plans to get it? It’s widely available here so SO got an updated moderna shot today and I’m scheduled Wednesday for the updated Pfizer. I’m going into my fall busy work travel season so it made sense to do it now. By January I can hole up at home and see how things play out.
We usually get our annual flu shots in late September or early October. We'll probably get the Omicron BA5 booster then.
Me. Will wait a bit into October.
Yes, as Alan mentions I’m also getting my annual flu shot Wednesday.
We will get it as soon as we can.
I'm going to wait. The CDC data tracker says my county has low risk of community spread. I don't have any big social or other group activities and some of those can happen outdoors as long as the weather holds. I'd like to have some sort of decent immunity around the holidays and times could become more challenging after the kids are back in school and people are stuck indoors due to cold weather. I do plan on getting the flu shot soon.

I also plan to wait. I don’t like getting annual shots. I never get the flu shot. I have had 3 vaccines and got Covid in June so if the virus turns deadly again then will get it.

I don’t think I have had #3. So yeah, I will do it soon.
Plan on getting the updated version late Sept or early Oct ... before we leave to winter in Texas.
I'll be seeing my dr in about two weeks, so will be discussing it then. Should probably take my card - just in case.
Got my updated booster this morning. A day late because they didn’t get the shipment until late yesterday. Like my previous Pfizer shot (I’ve had all three of the originals) I’m not having any side effects.
They (Walgreens) didn’t ask for my vax card. They had precleared me online when I made the appointment and probably checked California’s online database for covid vaccination to confirm that I’d had at least one previous shot and that it was at least two months ago, which are the only eligibility requirements for the new shots. Or maybe they are working with the honor system and will give a shot to anyone that answers the screening questions correctly.
At this point I assume the days of vaccine requirements for anything are gone. Most everyone has been vaxxed or infected or both. Either way I have a printout from today confirming my vax and I will send a note to my primary care doc to have them add it to my permanent record.
No, the days of vaccine requirements for students in Cambridge, MA and NYC who want to participate in extracurriculars are not over.

At least those places aren’t requiring genital checks for participation.

Give it time.
Give it time.
True. If republicans ever take over in that part of the world it would totally happen.

I will get it, but how long do you have to wait after being I’ll? I currently have Covid first time after 30 months of the plague

I know you have to wait 2 months after any prior vaccine or booster, but I'm not sure how long you have to wait after having covid. I hope you feel better soon.
We got the updated vaccine 2 days ago.
I don’t believe there is formal guidance on how long to wait. Personally I would probably wait three months post-infection to maximize the time that the vaccine will be most effective. Of the people I know who have had multiple infections none has gotten reinfected less than 3 months after recovery.

I got it, but I have to hang out at the hospital (the last time at that hospital I got lost and literally ended up wandering around the covid section) and to do caretaking (see my post about my mom's knee replacement). So otherwise I might have waited a bit to get it and not rushed, but probably would have eventually. I felt forced by circumstances and not even fun ones (to get a move on it) as I often do.
So I got the jab a week and half ago soon after it was out. Maybe not soon enough to have full effect yet, but we do what we can. It seemed milder than other jabs but still not fun in terms of symptoms. I got Moderna, because it's a better vax than Pfizer at least in theory (higher dose)
I don't think I've ever had covid. But even before covid I seldom ever even got colds.
I’m glad I got it when I did. (Also got the flu shot last weekend). I got it because of two weeks of work travel coming up quickly. That has now turned into 4 weeks. The first was last week. Got home a week ago today and didn’t get covid so I don’t know if I just didn’t encounter it (2 days spent in a crowded massive hotel ballroom) or if the shot did it’s job. The week after next I start three busy weeks where I’ll be in close contact with a variety of people.
