Now that Biden has signed the bill protecting same sex marriage. What's really neat is I found out on a break I took from a lesbian I worked with at the Convention Center that I helped get into the grocery chain I work for.
Noaa 8th
She was on the phone to her wife, crying with relief and called me over and gave me the news. Thank You, America, for legally getting that love is love. Hearts, not parts.
What a gift to end 2022 with!!!

Keep in mind that a future Congress could pass a new bill overturning this one. And the current Supreme Court could find the current bill unconstitutional and overturn it.
IMO, the bill is just window dressing, but the problem remains.
Just let them try to take it away where I am (not that they would). I check my City's agenda center every day for threats not just to my liberty, but to anyone's.
I believe the American public is solidly in support of gay and interracial marriages, but we really do need to be vigilant these days.

I have wondered about the Supremes finding any bill in this area unconstitutional Regardless of which political party pushes its favorite forward.
Ignoring gay marriage, states already recognize marriages made in other states. I suppose there never has been a challenge to that (?)
A Sure fire way to see it settled is to get a constitutional amendment passed. Good luck with that.

Yes there was a challenge. Massachusetts had a bill passed in the 1920's forbidding marriages of people from out of state if the marriage would be illegal in their home state. This supported southern states banning interracial marriage. When Mass legalized same sex marriage Romney used this law to prevent out of state gay couples from marrying.

You are certainly correct. But considering that the republicans, when they had control of both houses of congress and the White House, couldn’t manage to repeal the ACA…. Sure, they could make an effort at this but considering how fringe the opponents to marriage equality are at this point I doubt they’d succeed. And the effort would simply be yet another thing that makes the republicans look out of touch doomed to the inevitable long term failure that they’re already headed towards.

Attempting to shield a Constitutional Republic from the tyranny of Democracy isn't very popular these days. That's a shame.

You approve of the Jan 6th method?

If the past several years have taught us anything, it is that there is no such thing as “inevitable” in American politics. The arc of history bends toward making prophets look like jackasses.

A bill. Goes through the process described in the Schoolhouse Rock video. Once it is signed by the President, the happy young bill becomes a law, and is placed in the United States Code. Putting it there, in the correct place, is "codification". This is not special, it's part of the regular process for any law.
And like any law, it can later be modified by the legislature, or the Courts may decide the law has defects.
So, there's no special protection of this marriage law, compared to any other law.
