Have a donation pick-up scheduled for next week, so I'm looking around the house more for things I can get rid of. Just looking around my desk, I'm finding several items. So, while things are not out of the house yet, the donation box is filling up! Good way to start the new month!

Once I put it in the box, it seldom comes out, and then I'm pretty efficient at getting it out of the house in a reasonable time. It's the sorting and deciding that is the harder part. Sounds like you are off to a very good start, Happy!

We have building material s to drop off to various places like The Re-store, and MAYBE architectural remant places in St. Louis so that will take planning and organization.

And then We have 6 French doors which will not be used in this house. They were not used in the last house. But I love French doors, real ones with individual panes. What if we build a cute she-shed in the future? Then we would use these cute French doors. But I have not desire for a shed, but I love these French doors. A dilemma.

IL If you have room, keep them! Until they are a bother!

Going through some stuff this weekend. I got off the Buy Nothing group on FB. Most of what I have to get rid of now is either junk or very small stuff. Into the trash it will go.

I L, why haven’t you used any of the French doors? I love them too but have never had them.

Such a good question. For my Hermann house we have the original set of French doors from 1941 that lead from living room into kitchen. They are nice.

we have hauled around these 6 other French doors because…we , well *I* like French doors. We picked up a pair from our friend’s alley decades ago. Then there were 4 more tossed in a nearby the alley. Did you expect us to let them go!to the landfill???!!!!! I have a bit of a hoarder mentality about French doors, can you tell? Lol

The sad/amusing thing about our city house is that we had 4 sets of French doors on the 2nd floor. We ACTUALLY BUILT doorway heights around the height of the sets we bought at architectural remnant places so on one wall the door openings were different heights. Oh my,that is weird.

I have a nice set of original 1927 French doors in my condo.

the 6 French doors we have now, 3 sets of them, were acquired when we owned tiny houses that might have used them. I love the potential of French doors.

thank you for coming to my Ted Talk about French doors in which you learned nothing other than “iris, she be crazy when it comes to French doors.”

I enjoyed your Ted-Talk about the doors :D Your justification for hanging onto them seems perfectly reasonable to me, but you've got to figure out a way to use them! I like the garden shed idea.

Somewhere on a frugal site or maybe it was pininterest, , I saw somebody who hung either a french door or an old wood/glass window on the wall, with just wall behind it. Yup. Guess they thought it was cool. Ha. But yeah---you could do that. Hope that helps you some. Thankk Mee.

Wish I were closer to you, IL, as I would take a set or two off your hands. I've always wanted a set of French doors going out to the old deck - now new patio. When we were doing some renovations to this house, my plans included French doors, but then structural repairs ate up those funds. (Gotta love/hate old houses! LOL)

I like the idea of a she shed! Nice, full of light place to sit and enjoy!

White shirt I recently purchased - sleeves were too short and seemed to get shorter with each wash. I should have taken it back as soon as I tried it on, but didn't.
6 baseball caps abandoned here by our kids and we have faithfully kept them in the hall closet.
Canvas book bag/brief case - with over the shoulder strap
Organized all the yearly finance records and have a lot for the shredder. Hopefully our local credit union will have a shredding event this spring.
Several binders of papers no longer relevant to me any longer.
Couple miscellaneous books.
Cleaned out all my current finance files, cc statements, old insurance information, etc and shredded that pile.
It was an all afternoon project, but very satisfying once it was all done.

I dropped off a big bag of things that had been sitting on the end of the bed in the spare room. I could now use that bed in a hurry!!! Relief. Now to clear the ART drawer...

Nine various pieces of clothing from cleaning the closet. A fifty year old letter from my brother to my parents. Ugh.

More letters. Am sorting and bundling but only reading a few. Hard to know what to keep, as I can't see my kids wanting these.

About 30 books gone. Two 13 galling trash bags of clothes to get rid of. Bunch of CDs gone that I’ve not listened to in forever. They were hidden in a tub in my closet. Took some in date canned goods and toiletries to church for the food pantry barrel.

Took an autographed Football jersey I was given by a former player and gave it to my nephew. Warned the ones interested, that it was going to become an oil rag otherwise (need to change the oil on a vehicle).

And in case something happens to me, my cats. I mentioned which celebrity they would have gone to had I not been local to my friend I adopted them from. Just like I thought my one sibling freaked out and will care for them.

OK, this was a big one for me although it fit into a plastic shoebox: my rock collection. I was a passionate rock collector when I was younger, and I had some nice specimens, but the collection has been languishing in my cellar for many years now. After some networking around, I was able to put it in the hands of a local rock and mineral club member yesterday. They have a kid's branch, the Pebbles, and the member assured me my specimens will be put to good use. This collection was very important to me when I was younger, so it meant a lot to me to find a good home for it. It was one of those things that had a psychological weight way out of proportion to its actual physical footprint. I feel really good about passing it along successfully.

Two kitchen rugs. One neutral and one seasonal. Once I find my 4th of July one, that will be purged as well. I also got rid of a rope flower pot that I absolutely loved but never use.

I culled a half dozen mugs from the kitchen cupboard. They are pretty nice ones, so I'll make sure to donate them to one of my favorite secular charity thrift shops rather than the more convenient Saver's or SA.

Two pairs of shoes, a set of 11 bath bombs (tried one - didn't like), clothes, picture, book and a few more smaller things went into the donation box. Old underwear, tons of paper and boxes, all went into garbage and recycle.

I've been cleaning and re-organizing my bedroom. Not finished, but it has me dealing with a messy linen closet, my clothes closet and stuff all over the floor and stacked in corners. Finally have a corner cleaned out for dh to put his shoe rack and some of his shoe boxes*. Hopefully, he will declutter while reorganizing.

*I have no clue why my family insists on keeping shoe boxes without any shoes in them!!!! LOL

Good job, Happy!
My mom has quite a few pairs of Merrell clogs. She had saved all the boxes and cardboard inserts. When we were decluttering a few years ago (pre AD diagnosis), she explained her exhausting seasonal protocol of vacuuming the shoes and boxing them with their little inserts at the change of seasons. As with many of her protocols, it was burdensome enough that it seldom actually happened, it just meant that she had a ton of shoes laying all over the place because the closet floor was full of empty shoeboxes. Needless to say, the shoeboxes are now gone.

Rosa, I love how you passed on the rock collection. This is one of the nice things about grandchildren, you can pass on things that you loved as a child. I just gave my granddaughter my Wind in the Willows.

Thanks, Tybee. I did actually think of you as I went through the process of "the gifting of the rock collection." I like the way you have mindfully shared treasured items with your kids and grandkids.
