Here comes the sun.
... The smiles returning to the faces.
Sun, Sun, Sun, Here it comes!
A few years ago, I lived in Hershey PA. It seemed every establishment made fastnacht "doughnuts" available to all takers on this special day of the year.
To any and all who may partake of fastnacht, I wish you the eternal verity and best of the season.

People in Milwaukee tell me that the pazckis filled with custard are amazing. "Eat at least one!"
Some people spell it paczkis. www.jsonline.com/story/life/food/2023/02/08/where-to-find-paczki-around-milwaukee-on-fat-tuesday-2023-grebes-cranky-als-national-bakery/69878292007

We have a local bakery that makes wonderful paczki. Now I'm tempted to make a visit.

Long Live the Home League of Frederick Maryland!
I found a recipe online. This recipe calls for 3 rises of yeast (allow 5 hours). www.allrecipes.com/recipe/7208/nanas-fastnachts
My mother in law used fresh yeast in the block-does anyone remember that kind of yeast. Lots of rising and punching down, kneading, cutting, rising, frying...She learned from her mother in law...a native Fredericktonian!
I was pleased to see the article documenting it! Enjoy all the grease, sugar and flour you can consume.
