I have been sick off and on since last October, but am FINALLY feeling better! So I now feel as though I am finally accomplishing things off my to-do list. This past week was very productive with completing our taxes, completing my mil's taxes, organizing the files for bills, etc for the new year, making needed dr appointments and a few other things. This morning I have also been motivated to make my weekly breakfast dish for dh and I along with some homemade cinnamon rolls! So far, so good.

Hope everyone else is well. :)

That is great, Happy! I am sorry you haven't been feeling well for so long. I hadn't realized that.
Maybe this thread is a good place to mention that I have completed all my Medicare research, selections and enrollment. That was a bit of a project. My younger sister says complacently, "I'm so glad my sister will have this all figured out long before I turn 65," lol.

I was lazy and hired a Medicare broker to discuss options and sign us up.

In the years between retiring and becoming Medicare age, we had three health insurance changes, and I was tired of tracking them. I was tired of thinking about it. I figured once we got under Medicare for a year or two then we could look at our options carefully and change if we needed to.

But we have not changed because I just don’t care at all seems to be working fine. I’m curious to know about DH his hospital bills for his appendicitis last fall so we shall see how that turns out.

I’m sorry you’ve been sick for that long and I know you’ve had to go to work during all that. Well don’t overdo it is into these days of feeling better.

That’s terrible that you have been sick for so long. In many states picking a supplement plan for Medicare is very important to get it right the first time because you might have to pass medical underwriting to do so. My state has the birthday rule so I can change during that month but can only go to a plan with less coverage not the same or more. I didn’t realize it when picking my plan.

yeah, I don’t know about that kind of regulation with my state, but it could be similar. All I remember is that our Medicare professional, who was certainly well informed, really wanted to concentrate on “our current medication and our current doctors. “Well, you know, we aren’t on many medication‘s at the time I think maybe DH had one. It just is not a big issue for us.

I told her a couple times I want big coverage. I don’t care how much it costs. I don’t want to get stuck with one of those bills where the anesthesiologist isn’t covered because out of network or some such dumb thing and I’ve got $23,000 in bills for a surgical intervention.

but in the end, I don’t know very much about how our insurance works. I get the impression that we’re paying a lot in monthly fees upfront for fewer surprises at the other end of a healthcare event and that is fine if that’s really what’s happening.

The drug plan is separate from the supplement plan and that you can change yearly so not that important to get right. All Medicare plans have to be the same if they carry the same number. So for instance all Plan N’s must cover what Medicare states must be covered under that plan. There’s regular plans and high deductible plans and if you wanted the most coverage you should have either a Plan F or G that’s not high deductible.

Therefore it doesn’t make sense to pick a more expensive plan F because they all cover the same thing. I spent countless hours researching as to not make a mistake. The cost of mine has went up every year. I also want the most coverage.

All of this is assuming that you don’t have a Medicare advantage plan because those are entirely different. I would have to be so poor as to not be able to afford anything else to take one of them.

Thanks everyone.

Got one of the children's taxes done yesterday, so the "tax tasks" are almost complete for the year!

Another accomplishment this morning is actually writing my physical to-do list! ROFLOL.

Finally got to the shredding! Big bag out to recycle and now have extra room in the file drawer for some of the stuff that has been sitting on top of the file cabinet. LOL.

It's so nice to have space in the filing cabinet!!! I have a huge pile of paper to use under the paths in the garden! Our recycling won't take shredded paper any more. So the garden gets it.

Took all of 10 minutes to replace the shower head in the master bath on Saturday. DH's dementia is making it so he avoids showers. I'm hoping a handheld shower will make it easier on both of us. it took longer to get the darn thing out of the clamshell packaging than it did to change it out.

Good job, beckyliz. You made me laugh about the clamshell packaging. So true!!!

I can sympathize. Mom has become shower averse, and she used to be so impeccable. Her first name is Jean, and we used to joke that "hygiene" was named after her. Somehow we went from there to a point where I recently was explaining to her the importance of clean underwear, even if she was just going for bloodwork and wouldn't be undressing, sigh. It makes me especially sad since I think a morning shower is one of life's simple delights, and I have to coax myself to get out of the shower. The handheld shower is definitely a help, since she says she cannot bear the idea of water falling down on her head. I am so grateful that our friend/hired caregiver handles Mom's bathing.

Hand held shower heads are one of modern technology’s greatest inventions.

I sewed 2 buttons on my house sweater...had been off for way too long. Biggest problem was finding buttons...and threading the needle. All told, 10 minutes! Needed an eye patch to cover my very sore, tired , dry eye and the elastic was done...so just tied new onto the old and voila an eye patch that fits.

Since this is the last day of March, I'll mention my March accomplishments, which actually started on February 22--Ash Wednesday. To me Lent has always been a time, not just for spiritual reflection, but for personal renewal and discipline. I usually take up a challenge--sometimes it lasts through all of Lent and sometimes it doesn't.

This Lent I decided to give up alcohol and to ramp up some habits I've gotten lazy with.

I am definitely on track to be sober at least through Easter. I may continue it. I just feel that having a drink (and often two) a day isn't adding value to my life--in fact, I no longer want to subject my brain and my heart in particular to the toxins in ethanol. At this point in my life, I want to maximize my health, not play games with it.

I also have reinforced my morning meditation routine by hitting almost every day. The two other habits I've been not bad at--not entirely consistent but better than I was--are daily exercise and my daily effort to do something creative.

I'm feeling really good about my Lenten efforts so far, and hopefully I won't slack off on any of them once it ends!

What are you hitting that helps with meditation? I think I might be better with that sort of meditating, lol.

This month - DH and I hashed out some old wounds and may be headed towards counseling, which would be a good thing, I think. Did an estate plan (not that we have an "estate" lol and updated wills, POA forms, etc. Started to address some of the long put-off home repairs we need to do. And of course dealt with all the crap that life deals out....:~)
