A huge financial settlement was negotiated. I’m happy for Dominion and our country but I so wished to see Sean Hannity and Tucker on the stand. But Dominion had to protect it’s shareholders, reputation and employees too so such a settlement was probably very good in the larger picture.

but the sad part is Trump convinced his diehard supporters to storm the capitol and many sit in prison. Many have been alienated by their families, lost their jobs, lost their friends and for what? Supporting a vengeful liar? Yet he walks away Scott free. Yet they still send him money.

but I cannot quite figure out what 780,000,000 means to fox. I looked at their financials but I’m in the dark. Of course advertisers could quietly walk away.

next up is Symantec and shareholders. Obviously you are guilty if you make such a big settlement. It should be interesting.

I wonder if Fox shareholders will file a suit now about the management that got them into this pickle.

I believe that has already happened. Because yeah, the settlement is apparently a little over 5% of fox’s annual revenue.

A lot of people undoubtedly wish that it had gone to trial but honestly it was not in either dominion or fox’s best interests for that to happen. For dominion the settlement is enough to pay off their private equity shareholders. They will likely be reconstituted as a new company and go on with making election software. For Fox they avoided the embarrassment of having tucker and Rupert and others have to testify to embarrassing facts.

The problem for Fox is that smartlogic still has a suit against them and there’s a lot of damning evidence out there already that can’t really be disputed.

My news report said that the settlement amount was not significant relative to Fox earnings. While it seems like a lot, it might just be relative. I would be in the dark also to have a good opinion on matter. It's probably is a more meaningful amount to Dominion.

I was disappointed that part of the settlement did not include an apology or some sort of basic admission of wrong doing from the more egregious parties, like Tucker and Hannity. I wonder what they are saying on their media platforms and if they are entertaining claims of wrong doings by the courts. I would have liked to see a trial also.

I felt one of the consequences should have been Fox having to post a banner on every "news" show they have that stated most statements are false.

From what I read somewhere yesterday $787M is more than the roughly $750M that fox has paid out in ALL legal settlements that they have previously paid out, at least of the settlements whose value is known. Is 5% of annual revenue meaningful to them? Who knows. Probably not long term. I would imagine that their profit margin is such that this can be considered a cost of doing business.

It will be interesting to see if smartmatic is able to build as strong of a case against them as dominion did. If so then I expect they will view $787m as a floor for what they insist on with their case.

The NYT had a feature from the Dominions CEO today. I hope all of the criminal parties have a day of reckoning. A few highlights:

...we were focused on our obligations to our people — many of whom were set to testify, when they would recount trauma caused by the threats, violence and hate surfaced by lies about Dominion. I’d already seen some of them suffer emotionally during their depositions, and I worried deeply that a trial and associated media attention would cause only more lasting pain.

We have six more defamation cases pending: against Mike Lindell and his company, MyPillow; Rudy Giuliani; Sidney Powell; Patrick Byrne; One America News Network; and Newsmax. We will not stop until we hold all parties to full account.

It will be interesting to see the actual cost to Fox after insurance and tax deductions.
