We have a new outdoor deck that has not been sealed, stained, etc. I need to hire someone to do it this year.

Do they stain it, then seal it? Is there even such a thing as a seal?

I am vision is happening with a spraygun. Is that how is normally done?

But yeah---The money saved can be used for various worthwhile things---trips and restaurant meals, for instance. That said---Good luck!

All I ever did with the one on the house I flipped was to powerwash it and then stain it again. Check out Cabot website:

would it need power washing if the wood is only a year old?

i’m tired of waiting for DH to do it. I am hiring work done that can be easily hired.

He is building a stone wall and you cannot get people to do that. No one knows how to do that work. But deck finishing – – easy to hire out.

Our deck is stained but not sealed. Contractor did not recommend dealing because in a few years it would need to be redone and ‘unsealing’ it would be a headache. Easier to just restrain it every few years.

It’s been two years and needs to be stained again because the sun has pretty much bleached all the stain into invisibility.

Yes you have to stain it every few years. It’s a pain.

Yes, and now we have to buy new stain even though we still had half a quart left, presumably enough to redo it this time. I'd moved the container from the garage to the corner of the deck a month ago, waiting for the weather to dry out, and forgot about it. Last week while I was out of town for work it got pretty warm here and apparently heated up the can enough to make the lid pop off. When I went outside over the weekend to mow the lawn and such I noticed this and the stain inside the can had dried out into a solid mass. Blah. I have no idea what another quart of the stuff will cost.
