So as Delaware US Attorney, David Weiss slow roles his Biden investigation and comes up with a plea deal that looks like it was written by the defense team. When that gets tossed out, the Attorney General appoints him as the independent Special Counsel for the case. Isn’t that a bit smelly?

Isn’t that a bit smelly?Yes it is. I was under the impression that Special Counsel status inferred independence from DOJ influence, yet that is clearly not the case here. The Code of Federal Regulations (Title 28, Section 600.3 (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-28/chapter-VI/part-600) for those who may want to fact check) even requires those appointed Special Counsel status come from outside government.

It occurs to me that improperly appointing a special counsel, and one who has already signed off on a failed plea deal designed to slap someone on the wrist for a few offenses while simultaneously absolving him from prosecution for any future charges, is a political ploy designed to prolong a true resolution several years down the road when it can do the least damage.

This has all happened before:

in Publium Clodium Pompeiae uxoris suae adulterum atque eadem de causa pollutarum caerimoniarum reum testis citatus negauit se quicquam comperisse, quamuis et mater Aurelia et soror Iulia apud eosdem iudices omnia ex fide rettulissent; interrogatusque, cur igitur repudiasset uxorem: 'quoniam,' inquit, 'meos tam suspicione quam crimine iudico carere oportere.' -Suetonius's Life of Julius Caesar, §74, 2

so this is a standard ploy of politicians? Who knew!!! This is new information! I guess that makes it all OK then.

Actually, Caesar was saying just the opposite.

But we all know what happened to him for speaking up.

I looked up the translation and this is the “Caesars wife must be beyond reproach” quote.

Yes, that would be nice.

Was t he a trump appointee? Weird that now people think he’s doing biden’s bidding.

Was t he a trump appointee?
Yep, upon the recommendation of his two home state senators, Chris Coons and Tom Harper, both Democrats.

Weird that now people think he’s doing biden’s bidding.
I don't think he's doing Biden's bidding, it's more like being a team player and doing a politicized DOJ's bidding.

It seems odd to me how there media really hasn't discussed the charges and what a comparable punishment would be for the every day citizen. It's probably in there somewhere that I've not seen, or maybe there's not a good answer for that. And my recent history is already failing my memory a bit, but was the Trump era a heyday for GOP judge selections and appointments to contribute to the politicized DOJ?

I realize that trump politicized the doj in a way that no other president t has so I suppose it makes sense that republicans would assume that biden would do the same. Yet another example of trump’s efforts to destroy the country. Sad.

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen for attending our mystery show tonight and reading through this thread. Let’s have a round of applause for that dastardly doobie, that rascally Republican who closed the thread!

Never forget in any scenario: Trump Did It.

Equally sad is that republicans, like you, want to pretend that the trump presidentcy was normal. I guess rock on with your denialin’ self?

Hint, trying to shut a discussion down by claiming that any mention of trump is irrelevant just makes someone look sad and ignorant.

Another hint, trying to shut down discussion by calling others sad, ignorant, stoopid, racist, shitty state residents, etc., etc., etc., also doesn't work. You're a bright guy, you can do better.

And so can iris. She pretends like we’re calling trump hitler and therefore the discussion should not happen. Eff that. But whatever. You and her and ldahl can live in your bubble and pretend that the rest of us are a problem while the rest of us laugh at your sad perspective on the world.

I would suggest that laughing might not be the best approach.

I believe there is a substantial chance that Trump will win the 2024 election.

If so, just goes to prove, he can get away with anything…. as he predicted early on. I ‘m hoping there will be some repercussions from the indictments. He needs to go away.

I have no clue how long these trials take but is there any chance he will be convicted of something in time to not be eligible to be president? The thought of having him again is too awful to wrap my head around. Any other republican would be preferable.

Yes. He was one of the few Biden kept on.

It is your unrelenting focus of bringing every discussion to the point “ Trump is bad” that I object to. It is boring.

To be fair, he hasn't been mentioned in the Apple Watch thread, but then again, I hear he's an Android guy.

I’m sure you’ll poo poo the Georgia indictments. Because your desire to ignore trump’s obvious wrongdoing is all encompassing. And then you’ll wonder why everyone who isn’t a committed Republican finds your perspective laughable.

No, see, your yammering on every post about Trump dilutes the REAL stuff like Georgia’s indictment.
