I really like what Jonah Goldberg said in the presentation, where I heard him speak some years ago. He said that Gandhi prevailed because Gandhi was performing peaceful protest in a country, settled by the British, who respect rule of law.

If Gandhi had done his protesting, in many other places, he would’ve gone the way of the Jews in Germany.
