Was the election stolen from Trump in 2020?

If so, what do you think happened?

I don’t think the 2020 election was stolen through vote fraud.

I don’t think the 2016 election was stolen through voter suppression.

No. If it was, there would be irrefutable evidence presented in court. The many republicans and Trump supporters in the FBI and DOJ would leak the info. Dominion would not have won their lawsuit.

All we have are Trumps proclamations and now indicted lawyers and supporters.

But you think it was stolen?

Why do you ask? Why do you ask this group?

I'm getting ready to watch the GOP debates tonight, and so wanted a baseline from here.

Can't wait for the debate!

I don't believe the election was stolen.

No. Contrary to the bumper crop of sour grapes, I think the results of both elections were legitimate.

Stolen is an odd word for what happened so I say NO. Gave up trying to tune in to the debate as I don't want to give my email to FoxNews and trying to find other outlets was equally frustrating.

So far Christie, to me, is the only one on the stage worth considering.

So far, less than an hour and a half into the debate, I'm liking Haley and Scott. I thought I might like Ramaswamy but he's being a bit of a jerk. To me, Christie seems to be stuck in an I Hate Trump rut, which may appeal to many, but I expected more substance from him.

Fair, Scott might be interesting - it is a shame he's getting shut out of the somewhat-raucous debate format too much.

Ramaswamy struck me as a techno-dude-bro know-it-all who assumes that because he has been successful in one domain, he somehow is the master of all domains. That usually doesn't end well.

Yeah, Christie is doing pretty well.

I thought at one point I would like Ramaswamy, but the more I've learned about him, the more I know he's not my kind of candidate.

They just asked Christie about UFOs....

No I don’t think it was stolen. I think enough voters were creeped out by trump that biden won. I also think it verified that the 2016 election wasn’t stolen either since trump seriously tapped into a white victimhood theme that resonated with a sizable minority of voters. This the reason that 2020 was as close as it was despite his awful and chaotic presidency.

Personally o don’t intend to watch the debate. SO is a glutton for punishment so he’s recording it to watch tomorrow since he’s at his bowling league
Tonight.

I liked Chris Christie and Nikki Haley--I think they handled the questions really well. Tim Scott and Mike Pence were fine but I still wouldn't vote for them. Burgum and Hutchinson were ho-hum. I did not like DeSantis and Ramaswamy. T

I think I agree with your rankings.

However, with Trump doing his TrumpStuff, I suspect none of them have much of a chance to progress further unless something exceptional happens.

I think that's a pretty spot on assessment.

As usual, the debates avoided any discussion on climate change and the environment. My quick research seems to think Christie is the only one not giving it a bunch of double talk. It’s probably not a big issue for republican voters anyway.

I did not listen to the debates.

I heard Haley and Christie in uninterrupted interviews on podcasts. I like Nikki. I like
Christie’s approach which is “this time we need to take Donald Trump down” but will vote in the primary for whichever non-Trump candidate is at the top of the polls.

Yes, that's the major reason I don't like Ramaswamy--he also doesn't give it double talk in interviews or in his "10 Truths" The way I interpret his views on climate change, he would would sell out the last tree on earth for a couple of pieces of silver.

I watched and I didn't like any of them. I can see why rich donors are trying to recruit Youngkin or someone else.

Didn’t watch the debate. I don’t like ANY candidate this year. Most likely won’t be voting in the primary or for president. I’ll vote for other races, though.

Worked, didn't see any of the debate.

But I think Bae's initial premise is wrong. The election was stolen from the American people, long ago, by only have to choose the lesser of two evils, so we are still choosing evil.

I think we’re blaming the bartender because we ordered from the bottom shelf. We said we wanted more democracy in selecting candidates, but don’t show up for primaries and give the extremists of all varieties an outsized voice. When we do vote, too many of us see it as an opportunity to insult our imagined enemies or demonstrate our fealty to some nonexistent tribe. We could organize and vote for third parties if we wanted to, We just don’t bother. Politics is the organization of competing interests, not a restaurant menu.

I think it's interesting that the song played by Oliver Anthony at the debates , which my DH has been playing on a loop, even though he doesn't remotely represent a hard-life working class hero, has been co-opted by the GOP. The leadership of both parties are "rich"; both parties ignore the needs of the general public; both parties are to blame for the divisive, corroded narratives at play.

Anthony himself has said he is independent and does not represent any particular party.

He's gone even further:

"In a YouTube video shared on Friday, the singer addressed his song having been played at this week’s 2024 Republican presidential primary debate, saying that he found it “funny” because the song “is written about the people on that stage.”

It was indicative of the GOP's level of seriousness that they led off the debates with questions about a County & Western song (that they misrepresented), and then finished on a question about UFOs.

It makes the government portrayed in "Idiocracy" look positively capable.

I don't know about that. I think the network led with that song because it represents a distrust of politicians in general and the culture which drives them, its amazing level of popularity probably highlights the general public's agreement. I'm sure the song would play a part in a DNC authorized debate as well, if one were to happen.

How do you think it was misrepresented other than people calling it "country & western"? It seems to me that its style and substance is more in line with Appalachian Folk or perhaps Americana, with a nod to Southern Blues with the Resonator/Dobro guitar.

I hadn't heard of this guy until my 20 yo blue-collar neighbor decided to park his $50K truck in the street and blast the Rich Men song to the neighborhood.

LOL, nobody had until maybe 2 weeks ago. I've never seen anything like this, from obscurity to sensation within a 24 hour period. I'm still trying to process what this says about our society and culture but my gut feeling is that it's something good.

Don't believe the election was stolen. Agree with earlier poster that our elections are stolen well before we have a chance to vote in the primaries. (And even when we vote for someone like Sanders, the DNC arranges things so that we get another nominee.)

Watched the debate.

Terribly disliked Ramaswamy. Sense complete lack of integrity

As a New Yorker, looked askance at Christie from the open side of the George Washington Bridge for some years. We can enjoy his barbed wit, but have to recall he exercises it unfairly against the powerless when it suits him.

Was favorably surprised by Nikki Haley. If she weren't female, she might have a better chance with the R's.

Nikki Haley was our governor when we lived in SC, and she was an excellent governor.
