Sandra Day Connor died today. She was the first woman on the United States Supreme Court.

She was appointed by a Republican president, for those of you who find identity politics important.

A Republican president, but never came across as partisan herself.

I think a lot of that has to do with the media back in the day not being so Team Red and Team Blue in their reporting. Identity politics were not so much in the forefront.

I heard a podcast recently where a Supreme Court media reporter analyzed recent decisions from the Court and found there to be not much disagreement among the justices as the media would like us to think.

Okay--SDC stayed on the court till she was 75, then retired, unlike the media darling depicted as a heroine, RBG, who was barely functional the last few years just for the sake of partisan ideology. Yup. Hope that helps you kids some. Thanks mee

I remember almost asking her marshall to get her to sign a search warrant for me as a joke. She retired when her husband was diagnosed with altzheimers, is my understanding.

I can only imagine the stuff that would have caused if I had and she did.

I saw RBG in person, two nights in a row(*), about 1.5 years before she died, and she seemed perfectly functional to me.

Pancreatic cancer sucks though.

(*) Well, like 4 nights over the next week too, I had the seats behind her at the SF opera that year, but we only chatted more than a handful of words two of the nights, so I'll undercount.
