I recently took a few days PTO as I don't believe I will be jetting off anywhere soon and Christmas is upon us in the grocery biz. A few days off before this madness were in order. So I went down to Nogales with SO and spent time with his family on the MX side. Crossing back took 3.5 hours and there were migrants lurking all about Nogales. I was not afraid - this is not where I am going - but it does seem some of the overflow from the closed Lukeville, AZ Port of Entry is trying it's luck at the Deconcini Port of Entry in Ambos Nogales. It was utter chaos. Absolutely utter chaos.

On the way back there is a checkpoint 20 km into the US close to Tubac. It was completely unstaffed. SO remained in Mexico a few days - he was laid off and is looking for work again - and I took a shuttle back to the Valley. The shuttle just zoomed through the unstaffed checkpoint and I have to ponder - exactly how much fentanyl is not being intercepted?

At any rate.....this is unsustainable. Something needs to be done BUT Trump's plans that I have heard thus far strike me as a tad barbaric. But this border that I recently witnessed is unlike I have ever seen the US/Mexico border. SO told me it took him 4 hours yesterday to cross, that the lines are even longer and crazier now. I don't have the answers but this is unsustainable. Rob

The mayors of Chicago and NY complain about migrants getting bussed north, but the feds aren’t doing anything and really, what is TX supposed to do with all these people crossing the border?

Biden doesn’t do anything. The GOP wanted action on the southern border before they would do anything about Ukraine aid. Biden is apparently ready to leave Ukraine out to dry so he doesn’t have to do anything about the border.

Mexico's economy depends on remittances so the more the merrier. However, I don't know how to explain the influx from other countries. Cynical though I am, whenever I can't explain a political or economical situation like this...follow the money.

The think our border problem is nearly as insolvable as Israel-Palestine.

It cannot be “ solved” it can only be addressed, managed, policy-Ed, funded, politicized, etc.

The migrants from other countries seem to be a mixed bag. Some apparently asking for asylum and others coming for economic reasons.

Massachusetts is the only right to shelter state in the country. (Some cities like NYC are, but no other state.) Right to shelter is for all families, but not for individuals. Single unhoused individuals are being kicked out of shelters in the winter to make room for migrant families. Those in recovery, the mentally ill, veterans battling war trauma, are all kicked to the curb. Nonprofits salivate over the state contracts they can get for migrants and go along with this.

The migrants are not allowed to work, don’t have cars, and spend a lot of their time in a small motel room or shelter room trying to raise a family.

It is not a good situation for anyone.

Migrants receive free healthcare, free SNAP, free phones, free tablets, cash assistance of around $400 per month plus additional per each additional family member, free English classes and job training (even though they are not allowed to get jobs), free annual clothing allowance, free community college. Buses are free through June 2024.

Reagan won Massachusetts in 1984. I could see the right Republican doing so in 2024. Biden is a senile disaster.

There have been at least two flights into Rockford airport - about 75 miles NW of Chicago. They’re then bussed to the “landing place” in Chicago. At least they seem to have notified Chicago authorizes as required by the new ordinance.

Local news had a feature about a bus load or loads they dropped of at a shopping center. I guess they just unload them and take off? They interviewed a security guard for the shopping center who said they were generally polite. Some went into the stores to buy paper towels and window cleaner and tried to make some money washing car windows. Being dropped off in a strange place with probably next to nothing but hope must be better than where ever they come from. I suppose some have friends or relatives in the states or some network or mission where they can get some help..

This whole migrant business doesn't pass the smell test.
