They are constant, these tech issues. I have a running list of “tech things to figure out. “ At this time last year I made a major move from my Hewlett-Packard computing environment to bringing all my documents over to a Mac environment. That has gone well as I look back over the past 10 months.

Anyway— my current project is to set up a Facebook… Page? Group?… for the tiny iris Society I lead. I’m reading up on the differences between pages and groups. As of today, I still don’t know which one I need for this organization.

I am administrator of two other Facebook.… Pages?… I inherited from other people. I don’t know how to find out if they are Pages or Groups, but I think they’re PagesI think part of my problem is that I do everything on an iPad, and at one point Facebook really wanted many functions to take place on a computer. if I set up a group, it seems I will have to watch out for spammers daily. UGG.

Going into the new year, what are your tech challenges? Believe me, I have many more other than this FB issue, but this is the one that’s causing me the most grief this week.

Don't know if this qualifies or not as it is a slightly different issue. Got mil a wi-fi enabled photo frame for Christmas. It lets you add "friends" via a code who can then download the app on their phones and send pictures directly to the frame - easy peasy! She is a total non-tech person, so I set it up at my house, sent out the code, and three of us had connected and sent a couple pictures.

Fast forward to last night and giving the gift. Stopped at the registration/information desk at her residency on the way in and got the wi-fi userid and password, went up to her room and she opened the gift. Plugged it in, turned it on, entered wi-fi info... already stored photos displayed, but no internet connection. Long story short, their wi-fi doesn't appear to be strong enough in her room to stay connected for more than a few hit-or-miss minutes. Not sure if we'll be able to boost it on our own or not. Sigh...

That's too bad, Happy. Is it ViewClix? We got one of those for Mom awhile back but it's in her house, so no internet issues.

I forget the name of it (don't have the box any longer). Still not giving up and next time I go see her, will have an SD card with some pics on it that can be inserted to at least give her more to at.

Happy, that sd card is such a good idea. My niece is getting her mom one and has asked for family photos, but this would circumvent internet issues.

I don’t really have any tech issues at the moment. Trying to be more paperless at work without going fully paperless for customs clearance paperwork. We can’t go paperless for customs paperwork without customs approval and an additional backup server and some other tech stuff I don’t really understand.

I’m using Siri more with my iPhone and HomePod Mini at home. Talking for stuff like setting an alarm or a timer is better than doing it manually.

My tech challenge is to re do my passwords into something I can remember....as of now there are so many and I get so frustrated. I have them on a printed spread sheet, but it is a mess! The goal is to get all that streamlined.

That is a worthy Tech challenge!

Password manager.

Password manager.
I thought of that, too, but without knowing exactly how it’s gonna work, and there’s always some sort of ‘gotcha’ with tech stuff, I haven’t pursued a password manager.

I use Safari on iphone and iPad. iCloud Keychain keeps passwords all synced. It will do the same for your Mac, too.

Sure, that’s what I use, but I do not keep passwords to financial accounts on the Apple Icloud. I don’t trust Marky Zuckerberg and his security minions enough.

It does store many passwords for me, though, and it is handy.

And then, there is the oddball website that will not interface with Safari password storage. That was true with the American Iris Society until recent years.

Progress so far: I have learned there are

1. Facebook Profiles
2. Facebook Business Pages (also called “page” in several sources)
3. Facebook Groups

And the Facebook algorithm determines what people who interact with a Page see on their newsfeed. If they do not “interact” with a post they may not see the next post from a Page.

My participation in Groups and Pages all these years hasn’t drawn clear definitions, so my reading up on the platform’s mechanics has been useful.

Zuckerburg has nothing to do with Apple.

Oh sorry, you are right,
I am buried in Facebook stuff right now.

But whatever, I don’t wanna keep passwords when iCloud gives control to large financial consequences.

Get a password manager. Mine are all 20 digit/letter nonsense.

I think Facebook is possessed by the Devil.

I am still slogging my way through Business Pages 101 to define a workflow that is efficient. A core tenant of efficiency is that the platform perform consistently from, you know, moment to moment. What a concept.

if you think this is just another place for Iris to lay down her rants, why yes you are right!

I gave up upon this tech agenda item: bulk schedule FB posts on a business page.

i will have to continue to load posts one-by-one, and the Facebook platform allows me to schedule them no more than 30 days into the future. Bummer. I wanted to sit down and spend an afternoon making 6 months worth of posts.

I was interrupted in my regular “tech to do “list by yet another stupid thing tech is doing to me, and that was: DO Not Disturb was turned on.

It seemed to appear from nowhere. And of course, it came at a bad time, I missed a series of phone calls.

After I fussed and fussed with it, I found that I had accidentally hit the Do Not Disturb button on my Mac computer. That button controls all devices. I kept trying to turn it off on different iPads, but it would reset. So annoying.

But at least I found the source of the mysterious installation of Do Not Disturb. It’s a key I hit by mistake because it’s next to the dictation key.
