Did you guys see it?

I watched the SOTU Thursday night, and I thought Biden did a very good job. I stuck around for the GOP rebuttal. I thought Katie Britt's delivery was a little weird at the time, and I thought it was weird that she delivered it from her kitchen. But I had no idea that others shared my views until the next day.

I read social media posts and tweets that predicted that SNL would use it for its cold open, and indeed it did. Hilarious.

I think they presented an entertaining caricature of Katie Britt which greatly contrasted the pretty accurate manic energy of the President. Well done!

I enjoyed that one. Thanks for the reminder.

I have heard rumors of a Trump/Biden debate. Each has mentioned at different times they would be open to a debate, but I'm skeptical that it would ever happen. But, that could make a great SNL skit.

Catherine you made me watch a couple minutes of the real things, Biden, and Britt, before I could watch SNL’s parody.

The real Katie Britt was acting more than the actress who played her on SNL and she didn’t make me laugh.

Are you better off than 4 years ago? Yeah. I’m no longer worried that I might die of a new scary disease that killed a whole lot of people.

Am I personally better off? What a bad question. What does this assume, endless narcissism and no interest in the broader world? One could be way worse off and hey that really sucks, but it doesn't say much about policy much of the time.

That's a good point, that the actual "performance" by Britt was so more over the top than Scarlett Johansson's parody of it. But the skit did make me laugh.

Wait, that was Scar Jo? I couldn’t tell.

Are you thinking they can complete their entire campaigns without ever debating one another in person? Short of another outbreak of Covid and the need to resort to a Zoom debate, how would voters respond if B & T don't have a live meeting? And T, of course, would be taunting B and holding him up to ridicule if B
sits this out.

Since seeing the State of the Union Address, I have more confidence that B can hold his own and perhaps come out even or better. If challenged to, he should debate.

Donald has avoided traditional debate forums through the primary, so I don't see why that wouldn't continue. And I could see a Biden logic in avoiding a debate since Trump would lie through much of it. It would be an interesting match of the "minds", though. I would hope to see it.

Some time down the road it would be interesting to see what Trump's policies would actually be, besides releasing the Capitol riot "tourists" and closing the border on his first day in office.

Any debate should be closely controlled and FACT CHECKED, preferably with no audience in the room. Mikes that can be turned off.

When it comes to Donald, I wonder how much fact checking really matters, since his multiple legal issues don't seem to affect his popularity. His statements already get fact checked routinely in the news I follow.

can you elaborate on what you mean by this? Do you mean when Donald Trump says something, everyone will wait until that utterance is checked for factual accuracy? I’m having a hard time understanding what you mean here. In what scenario would a microphone be turned off?
