This storm blew in quickly from the southwest; as soon as I saw the dark clouds gathering over the Ortiz Mountains just to the south of our house, I ran and got my phone to get some photos. As we were standing the porch, suddenly these really loud pings started ricocheting off the metal porch roof and it was SO LOUD. One of the ice balls hit my cheek and it actually hurt.
It was the most intense hailstorm I've ever seen here. Usually the hail is pea-sized, but this storm had large marble sized bits and some at least an inch in diameter. Both of our cars have little dents all over the roofs and hoods. It could have been a lot worse though. Some neighbors had broken windows, and one friend's greenhouse roof got smashed in.
Hmmm...they work when I click on them. Never tried posting a video before.
Links didn't work for me either. I don't think I've ever been in a hailstorm before. I guess where I live, they are not prevalent.

We have hail about once a year in recent times. It can do major damage
Hailstorms are very rare in Indianapolis. I can remember two horrible ones though in 40 years. One took out loads of cars, windows, and roofs in a general area. The other had huge hail stones and was localized to an area on the SE side and took out roofs, siding!! !and most anything else. Could not believe the damage.
We were hiking in Alaska and thankfully just missed being outside (not many trees) for a long intense hailstorm. It left large piles of hailstones that had slid off the lodge roof.
Very common here on the Front Range but up until last year, we escaped any severe ones. Just had the roof replaced due to one a year ago. They seem to be coming more frequently in unexpected places.
I got news today from a friend not too far away who got hit a couple of weeks ago. It seems like those little pockets of large damaging hail are more common. He said it came without much warning in the late evening. He had one car parked outside and said it now matches their other car that got hit last time. I can picture homeowners insurance becoming more expensive, but at least it's not like Florida or California.

I've only seen hail twice, and it was little, cute, harmless hail.

I remember one year I went over to my spare garden about a mile from my house and my plants looked weird. There had been a hailstorm there, but not at my house a mile away.
we have a heavy metal roof which I don’t think is damaged by hail. Our siding is Hardee-board type so it doesn’t get marked by hail like vinyl can.

One of our vacations and the first time I ever hiked up Mount Washington, we got just above the tree line and a hailstorm hit. Never thought I could move down a mountain (into the trees) so quickly - although I was MUCH younger then! Did make it to the top a couple years later without incident. LOL.
I've heard people talk about hailstorms being more frequent but I can't say that I've noticed it, they seem few and far between to me and I've never seen the golf ball and larger sized hail I've heard reports about. The last damaging hail I recall was about 30 years ago when a marble sized hailstorm came through the area and damaged every car on the local Saab dealer's lot. They collected insurance payments for the damage and then deeply discounted the cars while offering repairs as part of the discounted purchase price. My wife got a new 1994 Saab 900 Turbo at, if I recall properly, a $5000 discount and it didn't have a mark on it upon delivery.
Since then, the only hail I recall has been pea sized or smaller.
I've lived in my current home for a little over 15 years and have had my roof replaced twice due to hail damage. The last time was 2017 when every roof within maybe a two mile radius was damaged, plus misc. cars, sidings and windows. Hard to say accurately if it's more often, it just seems like a lot and every storm season some area in the region gets it, but seem to be isolated to smaller areas. If I remember right, it was last year when Red Rocks had a surprise hail and several concert goers were injured. This was my 2017 hail.

I find the hail size descriptions of local meteorologists amusing as they cover a range of things - usually balls, eggs, marbles, fruits and vegetables etc.

Gosh, I've never seen hail that size, most all the hail I've ever seen looks like the small stuff on the steps in your photo. I've heard that hail is more prevalent in the western states, and while I love the west, I'll spend my time in the east where I don't have to worry about missiles like those falling on my head at terminal velocity.

Alan, Ohio had hail at least that size (bigger than golf balls) in the mid 1960s, outside Miamisburg. We collected a bunch and put them in the freezer. I wanted to use them as ice cubes but wasn't allowed - nuclear fallout, you know... We had a hail-storm with hail about the size of shooter marbles 8 - 10 years ago just a county north - had to have the roof replaced after that one, and some of the neighbors also lost windshields and had a lot of crop damage.

We just had a tremendous thunderstorm roll through last night with some hail! Didn't see the size, but from the sound of it, I was very nervous that a window was going to be broken! Lost power for several hours overnight. All this during a heatwave so we were inside with windows closed against the rain and no power for fans, etc. Long night. LOL

If there is a conclusion from my routine watching of ABC evening news, that seems to routinely feature weather extremes across the nation, it's like the Eagles song, "Every form of refuge has it's price".
I'm still trying to figure out how to post the videos - it said you can use the URL's from Facebook so that's what I did but as you all told me, it didn't work (I wonder why I can open the from clicking on it)? Any ideas?

I think the most likely reason is that the videos have not been tagged as public.
Ah, I never thought of that. Let me try again ~
