View Full Version : July Purge
Two inflatable cat cones of shame.
Cats had to wear them when they were 2 months old when spayed/neutered. They are now 4 years old. Not sure why I thought they would still fit considering one was extra small and the other was petite. Tried both on smaller cat and either fit. Didn't bother trying it on the other cat because he is over 20lbs so no way either would fit.
Lot of clothes/linens no longer fit for use or fit me! Two Corelle meal bowls and two each of knife, fork, spoon for a college student, given away on Buy Nothing group. Just picked up a little bit ago. Just a whole bunch of random stuff has been put in trash nags waiting for it to get cooler so I can run them out to the dumpster. Maybe over the weekend. There's still some bits to do, but it's so much better than it was.
Wow,a busy few days. Three huge bags of trash, big box of accumulated stuff for thrift store, and two boxes of books for the library are leaving the house. In addition, a sofa, 2 big chairs, lateral file cabinet, desk, four various bookcases are going to be collected by Habitat Restore.
In addition, I found two boxes of "winter" clothes that might have been stored for 2 years (potential donation), a lid for a big pan we no longer have (tossed) and two duplicated new muffin pans I did not even know I had in the basement (donated). Also have sorted two boxes of empty frames with one more box found at the back of a closet. Some of these will be donated.
Actually enjoying the process and do a little at a time. All the decisions are often difficult.
Happy to finally ditch all my sponges (except my Scrub Daddys). I had always wanted to switch over to microfiber cloths but could never find ones I liked. Bought some at CVS and the grocery store a few weeks ago and they are great!! Have been using them long enough to know that getting rid of all my sponges won't be a regrettable decision.
Cleaned out my freezer. Some old frozen veggies were pitched. Much better now. I have room to make ice!
Klunick, I've never liked using sponges as they don't rinse out. So I've always used wash rags. But I keep trying the micro fiber, and I'm glad you found some that work. I make nylon net scrubbers that do the heavy work. They last forever, can be bleached and washed with the whites. I use them in my bath, too, on my body...dead skin cleared off like with a loofah. Easy to make.
I've been having some good luck selling various items on Facebook Marketplace and on our local Buy, Sell & Trade Group. I recently sold a cool canvas army-type cross body bag for $40 because I can't carry cross-body bags anymore, sold my beloved pup tent to a friend a few weeks ago for $100, and just now sold a turquoise necklace I had made but don't wear anymore for $110.
Since the beginning of the year I've sold my old Lenovo Laptop, some jewelry tools I hadn't been using, a digital camera I hadn't been using, a chair cushion, a new bathing suit top I ended up not liking after all and returned several bags of collected aluminum cans that I took to the metal scrap yard and got about $7. I also gathered up all my sterling silver scraps from the studio and sold it back to the jewelry supply store for close to $30.
I feel like I am finally remembering how to flex my old frugal habits by decluttering and reselling!
Cleaned out the fridge before going to the grocery for once, so that felt good.
Threw out a rug that a puppy had chewed 10 years ago, and looking around for other things to move along, striving for two things a room a day.
