I was holding some seasonal decor items off to the side to see if I wouldn't need them when it came to decorate but decided if I can put them aside, they obviously aren't that important to me so why not declutter them?? So when I get home, these items will get decluttered for good.

Santa gnome that my Mom got from a 1-800-Flowers gift that she received last year. It had candy in it.
A small stuffed snowman. I have two and this one isn't quite as cute as the other one and I feel ok getting rid of it.
A wooden tri-fold snowman trio. It always falls down and it was an impulse buy a couple years ago that wasn't needed anyway.
An odd looking gnome that I got from a craft show in Savannah while visiting. The whole body is the beard and I had it in a wooden wagon but every time I look at it, I think "this thing is so weird looking". :laff:
Four rabbits that I display for Spring/Easter. Always felt they all had either sad faces or Resting B**** faces and never was excited to see them each year.

DH culled 4 t-shirts and 8 prs of pants that he didn't like or wear.
I culled a pair of Chaco walking shoes that still look good on the outside but are all worn on the inside. I had bought them in early 2019 and I know I wore them on our Niagara trip that year, so there were a lot of steps on those shoes!

Two xerox boxes and a bag of things out on the porch waiting to be picked up. Have new box all set up for donations again.

8 mismatch bowls chucked into the garbage. Too stained and not nice enough for Goodwill.

5 handmade ceramic bowls. They were part of annual fund-raiser from a local food pantry that included soup, sandwich and a bowl. With three of us participating now, I'm donating the bowls back in anticipation of receiving three more this year. LOL.

A keychain that I've probably had for 30 years or close to it
Also three travel sized opened toothpastes that my husband had in a dopp kit that hasn't been used in maybe 20 years.

A ring setting that the stone fell out of last week when I was gardening. A religious medal that arrived in a charity mailer.

To the free box (my walking excursion for the day):

an old pair of shorts I used to use for gardening. The bugs are so bad I have to wear long pants now.
an old tank top that the strap was always falling down on one side - very annoying
2 squat glass jars from a pudding K. likes to eat that would be good for votive candle-making but I'm not going to make them
empty local honey jar with lid
an old wallet that threatens to spill my credit cards out of

Just put two older wooden kitchen type chairs out on the "Magic Sidewalk"... fingers crossed that someone takes them! lol

Chairs were taken shortly after putting them out.

Just sold the rain barrel yesterday. Was going to put it out in the upcoming town wide yard sale, so this helps.

Okay, here is the downside of purging. It turns out that I only noticed the stone gone when I was gardening. My husband came back from 10 days away and said he found the stone in the floor of the car. So now I have the stone but no setting. I love the stone, so I guess I'll reset it. But this is the sort of reason you hold onto things--but what were the odds of that happening??

Oh no, and you could have held onto the setting for the rest of your life and never found the stone!

Congrats on finding the stone. Maybe a birthday/holiday gift could be a new setting of your own design!

My old car! It's being donated and picked up today. Bought a sibling's Rav4 hybrid. That's also one check mark off the retirement to-do!

I'm starting to slowly peruse my bookshelves again for books to cull. I came up with several yesterday.

I am wondering how many books you have overall? Catherine talked about purging her books before her move, and said something like a hundred, and I was thinking I should count mine, and see if it is a reasonable number. It is very hard for me to get rid of books. And I hate reading them on Kindle, unfortunately.

I have a small pile from my condo that stores the majority of what’s left of my book collection, but I haven’t been able to swing by the bookshop to drop them off. I could take them to Goodwill I suppose but they are a little bit too nice for a Goodwill.

I think I might need to count mine and see what the number is and see how many I want it to be.

Tybee: I did a massive book purge a few years ago, and I think the count afterwards was something like 500 perhaps, but I could be wrong. I'll have to do an updated count. I don't have a target number, rather I have a certain amount of real estate allocated for books and they cannot proliferate beyond that point.

Thanks. I just went and counted and I think I am at about 750 or so and would like to be more like 400, I think, plus not have any stashed places like attic and barn.

Which means seeing if I can get rid of one or every two or so. That's about all this house can take.

I counted, and I have 567 books, including 10 that have been culled which I just need to get out of the house and on their way. I'm pretty confident that I could get rid of another 20 or so without much trouble. I like to have a little bit of available shelf space for new books I fall in love with and feel compelled to hold onto.

Maybe I will shoot for never any more than 500, and then if we have to downsize to assisted living or something we can cut it again.

Here's my plan--cut two books a day between now and Christmas-- that is almost two hundred books and gets me down to a better total number.

When I was weeding books I found that I ran into a few that irritated me, and I thought to myself I never really liked you book, so now I’m getting rid of you bye-bye

and then there were the books I thought I “should “have because they fit into my collecting parameters, but yet I did not really like them.

edited to make this make sense, “weeding”. Not “reading.”

I took a box of big books to the local recycling center today. They actually send books to a brick and mortar non-profit used book store that sorts them for either resale or recycle. And also the accumulation of Amazon carboard boxes from several months of shipments. I have a lot of favorite books I will probably never re-read, but they look good on the book shelf and maybe a reminder of having read them.

I am in the process of preparing for a yard sale and I know that I should go through the bookshelves. I'm holding on to some books that I keep thinking "The kids will want these.", but that is usually not the case. Time to get firm with myself. LOL

I have such a hard time letting go of books. It is going to be a huge challenge to find 2 a day.

books-----I have many, many, many books. Don't have an actual stat to give you here, as I really don't have time to count them up. I also don't plan on disposing of ANY of them in the name of DVS(decluttering virtual signaling), as I've found that I will regret it and have a bad case of sellers' remorse. See? But yeah---I've got about a dozen unread books here, due to being occupied with YARD WORK!! and Cat Care & of course--my wreckin' yard finds. But, I'm working on those unread books, and will prolly have more time for them when the weather is cold, here in Zurra. But yeah---alla them books are the reason I'm so brilliant(like Eisenfeldstein); or, maybe it's the other way around. Do you kids figure Eisenfeldstein read very many books? I doubt it; he was too busy being a media influencer. Yup. Thankk mee.
