Both DH and I got an email this weekend stating our social security numbers are now available on the dark web…meaning available for viewing? We do have freezes already on our credit reports but now have to wade through more garbage. Anyone else affected or notified?

If it's the data breech I think it is, better then 50% of the nation is affected.

Not notified, but I figured mine was included in the data breach. Who notified you?

No notifications here. Who sent you the email? If it wasn't the Social Security Administration I'd disregard it as spammers hoping you'll reply with personal info.

I got a notice from Ticketmaster about a month back and just got one last week from a healthcare organization. It's getting bad out there!!

How long until a lawsuit asking them to pay for credit monitoring?

I have been getting various notices of data breaches along with an invitation to subscribe to a monitoring service.

The best thing any of us can do to protect ourselves is to put freezes at the big three credit bureaus. It’s free and no one can open a credit account in your name. Other than that I wouldn’t worry too much beyond getting your free credit reports every year.

You can also put a freeze on yourself with ChexSystems. That prevents anyone from opening a bank account in your name. I did that fairly recently.

Can you list the three again? I'm a little brain dead this morning. Thanks!

Went to Social security office and put block on access to bank account where money deposited. Will need to go in person to unblock in the future. DH ss email appears to be hacked. Had like 18 different numbers/letters for sign in name. Email account there deleted. Told good idea for everyone to check ss account every 3 months. Important to check employment and verify someone is not using your number. Have freeze on all credit bureaus. Will continue to monitor banking and credit cards. Need to call Vanguard yet to put all securities in place too. What a pain.

what does this mean? We have SS checks automatically deposited. Is that what you do? What does a “block” do?

my memory of our Social Security accounts is that passwords are expired after 6 months.

that is a good idea about checking the SS accounts tho to see no one depositing more via salary mechanisms.

my credit account already is supposed to notify me if someone attempts to open a new account but I will revisit all of that in January when I review financial things such as passwords and etc.

already, I do not store passwords for financial accounts in the cloud and I require 2 type authentication for logins.

Means ss deposits can not be made anywhere else unless I physically go into the ss office and change.

This has no baring on your credit account. This is no one can steal or move your ss money to their account.

Could not get into ss email so not sure how long the password is good for?

I never do auto fill or store passwords.
