View Full Version : Endorsements
So I read the LA Times will not be endorsing a candidate. Jennifer Rubin at the Washington Post demanded that the Times editorial staff immediately resign as a matter of principle. Then the Washington Post announced they also would not be making an endorsement. I have to admit I smiled when I heard that.
Then I read that reliably far left magazine, the Nation endorsed Harris. They also published a piece collectively written by their interns denouncing the endorsement. They took issue with her position on Gaza.
I never much cared about newspaper endorsements, but I understand there have been many angry cancellations of subscriptions. Some people have even cancelled their Amazon Prime membership.
I certainly never cared about the opinions of interns. I always viewed their role as to learn rather than instruct.

That is surprising that those two newspapers are not endorsing the person who’s running against pure evil.
When the librarians at Amy Coney Barrett’s University collectively wrote to challenge her nomination, were you impressed? Yeah, me neither.
From what I’m reading, the theory could be that the papers’ leaderships are concerned they could be targeted if Orange Man wins. All his bluster about targeting the enemy within and such.

Bae, that was very interesting.
Because of the Post not endorsing Harris, people on Threads (Meta’s answer to Twitter/X) are talking about ditching their Kindles and which eBooks platform to go to.
Woodward and Bernstein also seem to have a dog in this race:

I have Bob Woodward’s new book War. I’m a few chapters in.

I cancelled my WaPo subscription yesterday when I read about the non-endorsement and the bullcrap line that Bezos wants to "return to the paper's roots of not endorsing political candidates". I'm fine with a paper not endorsing candidates for journalistic objectivity, but not for capitalistic opportunity.

The Babylon bee endorsed Kamala Harris.
Jokers aside, I do not like that major news sources are shying away from an endorsement due to fear of the Trump camp. I had just assumed they were unhappy with her position on Israel and her administration’s supply of arms there.

I liked their “ten signs of fascism at Trump’s rally” article.

Megyn Kelly is claiming some of that billion dollar campaign chest of Kamala and Walz was spent on celebrity endorsements. Oprah company Harpo productions got $1 million.
I understand her campaign raised a billion dollars but finished around twenty million in debt.

To be fair, we do not know how much Oprah contributed to the Harris campaign. It might have exceeded $1M.
But all of those celebrity rallies took place to build crowds since Kamala couldn't do it on her own.
I hear there’s a “Blueanon” conspiracy theory circulating that Elon Musk used the Starlink network to steal millions of votes.

The title of this thread is “Endorsements” so here I guess we can talk about celebrity endorsements.
That guy on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough, is getting a lot of flack for his turncoat performance on Donald Trump. After years of doing everything he can do to keep Donald Trump out of the White House including considering him Hitler, Scarborough and his wife, Mika someone, visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago a few days after the election to pay homage. Is homage an endorsement? No, of course not, but it is interesting,
Scarborough is like other cable news personalities who never show up on podcasts I watch so I had no idea who Joe Scarborough is. I couldn’t hsve picked him out of a crowd. I had seen his wife Mika one time when I watched a clip of Russell Brand on their show where Brand was promoting his tour. This was several years ago, and they treated Brand rudely and so oddly it was befuddling. Russell Brand was hilariously smooth and sophisticated in putting them in their place. It’s a great clip.
But Scarborough was not on that segment, and so I came away from it thinking that show “Morning
Joe” was about a bunch of people sitting around, much like The View, and the “Joe “referred to coffee. I didn’t know there was a man named Joe on the show.
So in recent days I learned Scarborough used to be a conservative politician and was actually considered as a Vice presidential candidate by Trump in 2015. That is amazing considering all the hatred towards Trump this Joe fellow has shown especially in recent years

I don’t remember where I saw this. Probably if you Google it you’ll see that opinion expressed multiple places.
Both sides were lobbing the criticism at each other that they couldn’t fill stadiums.

Of course it is “ opinion” which is why I used that word.

I think most people welcome other opinions since increasingly more people are not Democrats. :laff:

FYI .. IL original post did not say it was an opinion. Also, you are in error if you think I am a Democrat.:0!

Most news sources are influenced by, and deliver their product with, opinion.

There are times in our history when we've basically been a one party nation. Probably not the best place to be.
