New Year's cleaning

I've been off work since Christmas Eve and had enough of reading. Did a bunch of decluttering yesterday. Wasn't in the mood to deal with people from Buy Nothing group so it went in the trash.

In many cultures, it's a thing to clean for the New Year, so I did a decent job on my little 1BR place. It's in the high 30s and raining a bit, but I opened a LR window to get some fresh air inside before the cold snap hits in a few days.

Felt really good to get this taken care of. I've been neglecting things lately. Washed ALL my bedding, too.

I plan to do some deep cleaning, meaning these:

baseboards
Window and door woodwork
bathroom floor scrubs
maybe…all kitchen cupboards


in the next few weeks

2025 is a year. I will hire house cleaners, but I don’t think we’re ready for that yet because D is generating a lot of sawdust and it would be hard for a cleaner to work around him right now because he’s finishing our staircase and also there’s one room downstairs yet to finish before I hire a cleaner

Yes, I'm planning on taking my comforters to the laundromat this weekend.

We are also tidying up the bedroom. DH has more clothes than I do, and the one dresser we have doesn't cut it. So I bought him for Christmas a $69 storage dresser--it's a cheap piece of crap but it will store a considerable amount of clothes, and the best thing about it is, it's only 12 inches deep! Our room can't handle any bigger than that.

We also have to decide on which of the remaining dozen or so photos we're going to add to our bedroom wall gallery. The ones we don't use will probably be headed to the storage unit. At some point we're going to have to start purging wall art we're still hanging on to, but don't have room for.

we picked up an entire carload of flower show crap from someone who’s dropping out a flower show activities. Normally, I would be depressed at all this stuff, but it’s January when I normally clean and organize stuff so the timing is good. I also have no compunction about throwing out things that are useful.

IL, I have no issues throwing stuff out, no matter the condition, if that’s easier on me.

I didn't know it was a New Years thing but I have been cleaning like a madwoman. Something about a fresh start I guess. Felt good to put away our scant holiday decorations. Tomorrow the hall bathroom and...

All I have done is put the decorations away but that did feel good. Keeping the outdoor lights up until Epiphany.
