Phew! What a relief. Whatever fragile tie I had to this country has been severed. To legalize treason and make such a mockery of the legal system? We ALL deserve better.

I will continue working and saving money but the goal is truly to get out now. Hopefully for those committed to staying in the US after yesterday this country splits soon - I see no other solution at this point. Rob

You might consider that trump is temporary phenomena that may only last four years or maybe a little less with a little help from Mother Nature. After that who knows. What ever you decide could be much longer term.

Rob isn’t going anywhere so I wouldn’t be concerned about him making a rash move.

Yes. This is about his 347th last straw. I suspect we will be seeing whinging posts here long after Trump is gone and our progressive friends move on to the next “existential threat to our democracy”.

Although to be fair, the pardons seem to be coming fast and furious. Both Trump’s partisan mob and Biden’s buck-raking family have much to be thankful for.

Rob, I hear you. I hear you. The pardon of those January 6 criminals broke my heart. That and the Nazi salute, and the vow to send killing drugs to all the states so that they could get on with their business of executing people. Absolutely chilling times.

As previously discussed, there’s no way to “split” this country without rivers of blood. I would not “hope” for such an outcome.

I find Rob’s salivating excitement for this bloodshed and grief to be juvenile.

I see it differently. I think he is shocked by what is going on, as I am, and is afraid of what may happen. I agree with the need to look ahead, and not to keep saying, oh, this guy doesn't mean it, it won't be that bad, he's just saying things for effect--I think there is so much denial going on, and Rob is correct to be worried about the future of our country right now.

I don’t hear Rob’s words indicating “worry” anymore, I see him as animated at the mere thought of any downfall of this country which is why he blows some things (AI PROCESSING OF INSURANCE CLAIMS!!!!!!!) out of proportion. It is masterbatory. That’s what I am responding to.

It will just enable the "sovereign citizens", Proud Boys, posse comitatus, and such groups to grow and endanger all others. I have seen what they do since the 1970s when I was working in government.

The crazies are going to get more crazy and dangerous.

yes, no doubt emboldening the undesirables and I mean this sincerely.

But I’ll tell ya—I watch a fair number of Youtube court cases of these sovereign citizen nutjobs and local jurisdictions are not harsh with them. Too many of them get off with barely a slap because they simply tie up court time and the presiding iudge makes an administrative decision to clear the case. The citizens stupidly believe they win on merit but that is not how they get off.

That said, a fair number of judges throw them in jail for stupid behavior in their courtroom, charging them with contempt.

St. Louis peeps were all riled up last fall when STL Nazis showed up near my old neighborhood, professing to dispense “German history” literature at their table during a festival. They targeted that neighborhood as the place where slave auctions were stopped, and by German folks. I have to say, I thought that ruse was clever.

You are blowing Elon’s “Nazi salute ” all out of proportion. There’s enough stuff going on with Trump’s executive orders without making up fake news, as Karine jean-Pierre would call it.

I will take the word of experts in Nazi identification:

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization whose mission is to combat antisemitism and which a “Hitler salute” as one with an “outstretched right arm with the palm down,” shortly after the incident that the billionaire Trump mega-donor “made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute,” and that “all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath.”

Yeah, I saw that and I don't buy it.

Yeah, I saw that and I don't buy it.
That’s ok, you don’t have to.

This puts me in mind of all the times Karine scolded us for believing fake news when we saw, with our own eyes, President Biden wander off camera looking vague or saw Obama lead him off stage or etc. See, I did give the old guy “grace” and figured these incidents were deliberately clipped fakes news. Then when I saw old Joe fail his competency test at that seminal debate, I felt duped.

So maybe Elon IS@Nazi but I can’t help but think how happy the Democratic party would be if the richest man in the world was on their side. They wouldn’t be selling the Nazi salute.

okay----did Elon also say "heil"? I don't believe so. You gotta say heil, and Goose step around, to be a REAL Not-See. Yup.

Nor do I. As they say, believe when someone shows or tells you who they are.

So, all those Nazi's years and years ago were actually demonstrating "My heart goes out to you"?

I feel so silly for not ever realizing that!

When someone is looking for mermaids, all you need to do is show them a walrus. Their imagination will do the rest.

Well, why fuss about a possible Nazi salute when you can look at other Musky Nazi-adjacent behaviour:

This is exactly where I am coming from. I see an uncomfortable number of parralels to 1938 Austria and I'm understanding better these days how things could progress to where they did. I don't see this ending well, and furthermore - France and Germany both basically told DJT *diplomatically, of course, to back off. And having allies actually need to take such a stance - and to threaten Panama - and many Americans find this acceptable? This country truly is the Twilight Zone, where is Rod Serling when you need him?

As previously discussed, there’s no way to “split” this country without rivers of blood. I would not “hope” for such an outcome. We may end out with rivers of blood regardless due to DJT's Expansionist Rhetoric and disregard for the sovereignty of other nations. Rob

The crazies are going to get more crazy and dangerous.I agree that the crazies are going to become more extreme and more emboldened.

I think of Nicholas Maduro recently threatening to "liberate" Puerto Rico (oddly enough he mentioned the assistance of the Brazilian military - huh? He has no.power over the Brazilian military?).....Now this threat I didn't take seriously except for the fact that it's more inflammatory rhetoric when the world is becoming more unstable every day.

Eventually things are going to go too far with horrible consequences. Rob

One thing I am doing is donating to causes that protect organizations telling the truth about history, like the National Holocaust Museum and fighting anti-Semitism. I am hoping that by educating people about what happens when people use scapegoating and starting rounding up people and tearing families apart, it may turn some hearts away from the rhetoric that the new administration is employing.
